  1. They had to ask the same thing about Burnes. This is becoming a disturbing organizational trend.
  2. This is madness. How will this team beat contenders in the next couple weeks? I know it’s baseball and it can turn around, but the bullpen is just a nightmare top to bottom. There’s no sign of life out there.
  3. Wobbly Hader coming in for a 5-out save with a one-run lead on a night the zone is about as wide as a thimble. I got a bad feeling about this. EDIT: I should emphasize, I wouldn’t feel good about anyone in this spot, tbh.
  4. And this despite Jose Ramirez looking like Travis Shaw (2019 edition) for much of the year, Kluber and Salazar out, and they freaking traded Trevor Bauer—who Milwaukee would fall all over themselves justifying his craziness because of how pitching-starved we are. And somehow it all works. They’re like the Bizarro Brewers.
  5. Ok, I’ll admit those splits aren’t nearly as pronounced as I thought they’d be. But you don’t have to be a home-run hitter to benefit from a ball that travels farther.
  6. David Freitas says hi to ya Harvey. I want to be surprised, but forgive me if I don’t buy the 30 year-old journeyman having a career year that just so happens to coincide with the AAA debut of the new homer-happy baseballs.
  7. Just for that he's totally going to take the next two weeks off to cover the National Disc Golf Summer Invitational. Have you seen those guys? Incredible skill. [sarcasm]Disc golf is for noobs. You should see the tiddlywink players.[/sarcasm]
  8. My goodness. First base is a huge area of need. Too bad there aren’t any waiver trades anymore. This offseason should be very interesting for the corner infielders, to say the least.
  9. When you need at least four relievers every game you have to be a little judicious about how often they have guys throwing in the bullpen. Yup. September can’t get here fast enough.
  10. I don’t get this comment. Maybe I missed something, but I always thought of Lucroy as a model citizen. I remember him supporting Braun a lot after the “exoneration” and then having quite a bit of egg on his face for the “un-exoneration” (though he wasn’t the only one). He also had to endure a massive amount of vitriol directed towards his wife after the suitcase incident, which was absolutely disgusting, even in this day and age. I’ve always liked him for this, and don’t get why some people dump on him now, except for the shirt he currently wears. Is that it?
  11. So I log on to check the game, and see that Hiura is absolutely killing it. Makes sense, seeing as I decided this morning to bench him in my fantasy league until he got out of his slump. Guess this is why I didn’t go into finance...
  12. He has to throw his slider for strikes. No one believes he can hit his spots with it, and hitters are laying off even with two strikes. They want his fastball. That would worry me a lot if I were Josh Hader.
  13. Today’s silver lining: Grisham officially has his first multi-hit game of the year, and first home run. Have yourself a day! Want to bat lead off for the next six years, maybe?
  14. Have you seen our bullpen? If you aren't going to bring in any outside people we might as well trade Yelich, Hiura, and Woodruff this offseason. Have you seen bullpens across the league? They stink on ice. The league is going through a major adjustment due to changing approaches of batters and the new baseball. I wouldn’t be surprised if we look back on the last couple years as a new era in baseball as stark as the shift from the dead ball. It’s a minefield out there. Hader goes from unhittable to thoroughly mortal this year. Edwin Diaz goes from greatest reliever in the game to nuclear disaster this year. Kimbrel is borderline HoF and is an absolute roulette wheel since the end of last year. Who do you trust? Unless you’re sure, doesn’t make a ton of sense for a team with very limited resources to pay sticker price on relief arms.
  15. He has made a bunch in the last 8 months or so. Starting with the coaching staff. ... And letting Miley go, putting too much faith on three unproven starters with no decent fall-back options, and not responding early in the season to significant injuries in the bullpen. I’m beginning to think that bullpen success is so statistically noisy that it may be a fool’s errand to invest serious resources in that area. You just can’t count on anybody year to year. It was not foolish at the time to favor internal options over major outside additions. This criticism is revisionist history.
  16. That HR was complete BS. Comes after ump absolutely blows the 1-1 pitch and completely changed the AB. Can’t catch a break this whole weekend.
