  1. Or Shaw. If Shaw to 1B eventually happens, I wonder if Hiura is in their thoughts. He's been solid in AAA so far, but it's like management told him in spring training "We're the Brewers ... don't worry about striking about, because DINGERS!"
  2. I'm all about not looking too closely and small sample sizes, but at some point this is going to negatively effect his development. I mean, he's looked fine when not giving up long balls, but unfortunately those long balls count. I know he's facing some pretty tough lineups, but that really only goes so far. Every pitcher is going to give up HRs, but you gotta keep the ball in the park for the most part to have success. I’ve seen professional hitters in batting practice not hit homers at this prodigious rate. I mean, it’s tempting to still call it statistical noise, but it’s some pretty deafening noise. I still maintain Burnes is not pitching as poorly as his results indicate, but his command issues are real, as is his lack of confidence in his secondary offerings. He’ll either figure this out soon, or he’ll get yanked, but the status quo cannot be allowed to stand. PS—I hope the Grandal signing starts paying dividends soon...
  3. Pitcher ABs should never be shown in slow motion, at least not without a parental discretion warning. I mean, Burnes hit that well enough I guess, but man that process wasn’t pretty.
  4. Don’t look now, but Burnes is on pace for a Quality Start*! Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to find the closest lumber yard so I can knock on all the woods. *totally worthless stat
  5. Way too much. The fastball is moving, but if it moves to the middle of the zone, it’s getting crushed consistently.
  6. If it gets that bad, he better get yanked out of the rotation long before he approaches a HR record. This isn’t some rebuilding club that can trot out a sacrificial lamb every five days. I like Burnes well enough, but at some point, the Brewers can’t live with this. We’re not at that point yet, but that point exists. I hope we don’t find it.
  7. Good thing Stearns fixed the offense, because every other game feels like a shootout with dueling .50 cals. I guess this is the definition of living and dying by the sword.
  8. Yeah, with several more series coming imminently against the Dodgers, Cardinals, and Cubs, I am ecstatic that the Crew has already banked eight wins. Helps smooth what will certainly be tougher times ahead. EDIT: Sorry, since this is the optimism thread... The Crew’s .800 winning percentage is definitely sustainable for the next month of this difficult schedule!
  9. +1. I have nothing more to add. That was perfect.
  10. I’d say pretty-boy-Bryant has his shoulder back now. There was nothing wrong with that throw to get Perez, my goodness.
  11. I believe the Baez home run was on his slider, correct? You may be right, I’ll have to look that up. It moves similarly to his cut fastball, though, and it ended up in the middle of the zone. If I can see it (and Fangraphs can see it https://blogs.fangraphs.com/corbin-burnes-spins-to-win/) then surely the coaches can see it, too. And the opposing hitters are definitely aware of it, if these two games are any indication...
  12. So far, the issue for Burnes is simple: his fastball up is nigh untouchable; if it slips to the middle of the zone, it gets hit out. A little of that has to be bad luck, because 6 HRs on an elite cutting fastball in two games is kind of ludicrous, but he still can’t leave that pitch there, plain and simple. If he figures out how to consistently locate that pitch, it sets up the entire rest of the arsenal and he’ll be really good. If not, he’ll continue to struggle, I think. Bottom line is, I’m excited for him, but he’s got a real issue. But at his level of experience, no one should be expecting Max Scherzer-esque performance.
  13. There have been a couple high strikes that were called ball, but overall I wouldn't say so. If anything it has been a wide zone. I'd argue Peralta has benefited more from it than the Reds pitchers, but that may also be thanks to Manuel Pineapple. Thanks!
  14. For those lucky ones actually watching the game live (as opposed to Gameday), has the strike zone looked a little tight all game?
  15. I like how Freddy is still ramping it up to 95 mph as he nears 100 pitches. Ah, the glory of youth.
  16. This would be the complete opposite of selling a player high. He's still not that far removed from a monster post-season. If he has a very long slump... Right now, it's a relative high. The good news: Freddy Peralta has saved the bullpen today. He's had a great outing. But the bullpen isn't saved yet. They'll need to pitch at least the ninth, and extras are a serious possibility here.
  17. Our catching tandem is great. So nice having a back up catcher who can hit [sarcasm]a little[/sarcasm] and play defense. Fixed it for you. I mean, Piña can hit about as well as one can reasonably expect a glove-first catcher to hit, but his 87 OPS+ sure is't going to win him any hardware. But, I'll grant you, for a backup catcher, you couldn't ask for more.
  18. Maybe CC wanted Guerra through the 7th and Hader for 8 and 9 to save the rest of the pen?
