  1. If we’re wishcasting, yeah, Eovaldi looks good. And also put me down for some Amed Rosario shares. He would be a substantial upgrade over Monasterio as infield depth, and would give plenty of quality ABs down the stretch.
  2. Man, I’d love to see Amed Rosario take all of Monasterio’s ABs from here on out. It has become almost an automatic channel change or leave the room situation when I see him up to bat. Rosario even plays a little 3B occasionally. He’d be such a great get for us, considering where we’re at in the season.
  3. I have to apologize to everyone; snapping the winning streak is my fault. I got excited and finally started to buy in to the team being for real last night, so bought some tix for the fam for next week. Major slide incoming, no doubt.
  4. Learning day for young Mr. Chourio.
  5. That’s why the guy is on the roster. He can just keep hitting clutch bombs for the next three months, thank you very much.
  6. That’s because rookies, like one’s own children, should be seen and not heard. It is bad enough that we give the kids one special award at the end of the year, and here you go wanting to give them TWO? What’s next, pimping home runs and not wearing one in the ribs afterwards? We used to live in a society…
  7. The Brewers have come to bury the Braves, and not to praise them.
  8. Good grief, Rhys. The baserunning decisions of this team sometimes…
  9. I hear this kid Keston Hiura is about to be available. He had a great rookie year somewhere (escapes my memory), so could be a nice reclamation project.
  10. I for one welcome our new robot overlords.
  11. Now that Jackson Chourio is on a 3-WAR pace, here’s the list of players since 1961 (expansion era) with a 3-WAR season at age 20 or younger (h/t Brew Crew Ball): Juan Soto (twice) Bryce Harper (twice) Ken Griffey Jr. (twice) Álex Rodríguez Mike Trout Ronald Acuña Jr. Carlos Correa Tony Conigliaro Fernando Tatis Jr. Jason Heyward Andruw Jones Adrián Beltré Johnny Bench Manny Machado Joe Torre Claudell Washington Butch Wynegar Roberto Alomar Wander Franco (eek) Elvis Andrus Édgar Rentería That list is bananas. The floor is long-term really good major leaguer, and the ceiling is Olympus. I’m not putting Cooperstown hype on him just yet, but with Yelich potentially out for a very long time (Murphy’s press pool answer sounded funereal, and reports are Yelich has a date with a specialist—not great), now would be a good time for Chourio to lean towards the top end of that list.
  12. Maybe someone can ask Craig about all his guys trying to drain Lake Michigan all night. Seems like it would be an astute question.
  13. So what you’re saying is, win the pennant, and Brewers in 6.
  14. Well that was an absolute slugfest. Let’s get the heck out of Minny.
  15. Captain flippin’ magic. Unbelievable
  16. I assume his other numbers are going to stay lower than we had hoped, but I’m pretty confident Rhys is going to have some big time homers down the stretch. The guy has it.
  17. We’re still doing the batting average thing? I’ve got a stat: it’s called OPS, which combines how many times the player gets on base and adds slugging. As much as it pains me, we have to acknowledge that Bellinger is doing markedly better than Frelick when we take into consideration the entirety of the job of a hitter, which is namely to get on base and, when putting the ball in play, hitting it hard and taking extra bases: Sal is a .696 OPS with a .350 slugging vs. Bellinger’s .742 and .410 slugging. Neither player is having an awesome season at the dish, but when we account for park factors, Sal is just a hair under average and Bellinger is about 7% above the average hitter. Again, it certainly brings me no pleasure to report this, but if we’re trying to come up with reasons to keep Frelick and not trade him, his batting average and how he stacks up to Bellinger is definitely not how I would go about making that case.
  18. Freddy looking really bad going into the trade deadline is one of the worst case scenarios for this team. He’s the guy who is supposed to get more innings than anyone else on the staff in the playoffs? If I was Arnold, knowing who was coming back healthy next year, and seeing the price of elite starting pitching on the market from teams like the White Sox or Tigers, I’d be really tempted to keep my powder dry. Bullpen guy and a backend starter for us maybe, but no more than that. We’ll have bullpen arms coming back healthy in the second half, and I feel pretty confident this team cruises to a playoff spot even if the starters get wobbly. But the offense still has some growing up to do (and to be fair, no one should be surprised—the hot start spoiled us a bit), and this rotation isn’t going to get playoff ready anytime soon. We can play our usual games with openers and what have you, and it almost got us to a World Series once, so I’m not discounting the strategy, but this wouldn’t be the year I go get a major piece.
  19. Maybe this is only me, but seeing Chris Taylor still makes me sick. It doesn’t even help that he’s having the worst season of his career. Nothing will ever make it better until we get to hang a banner. Nothing.
  20. Two wins at Coors—mission accomplished. Ride the gravy train tomorrow, y’all. Happy Fourth!
