  1. The 49ers are about to be a test case for just how far a talented team can go with a complete scrub under center. Should be interesting.
  2. Well, hurts the draft stock, but I hate losing in the division. Can’t be mad about this, that’s for sure
  3. Came out of his hand strangely. Could be the thumb.
  4. Special Teams did something!
  5. Unreal, Jaire. What a joke
  6. I wonder if this is one of those situations where the HC also being the play caller bites us. He needs to be thinking about plays, but a challenge/no-challenge decision is critical there, too. If there isn’t a clear system of assistant support for LaFleur in that situation that indicates we need to challenge, that could easily het screwed up.
  7. Weird sequence there. Refs blow it with a phantom down by contact, stupid shot throw again on 3rd and 1, and then a funky fair catch interference. Not sure that’s all on the gunner on that punt, since it seems the wind ended up blowing the ball into his back. Guess you need to just clear out, but guys are up close on the returner in that situation all the time. Bizarre.
  8. It would have to get ugly, by that I mean, he’d have to irreparably lose core players. If guys like Gary, Jaire, Clark, even Rodgers (assuming he comes back) give up on what he’s selling, then he could very well be cooked. Hard to say on the outside if that’s a real risk at this point, but idk.
  9. I'm as skeptical of MLF's ability to select good assistants as anyone else, but let's keep a fair mind here. There is no strategic value to making this move right this moment; I doubt Leonhard is making a decision in November, and the best NFL targets won't start doing interviews until later in the year. We don't even have much of an idea who is available yet, so it isn't like moving on now gives us a head start on the search. Besides, even if they are planning on a change there is absolutely no value of any kind to airing dirty laundry in the media. The fact that MLF largely refuses to do so is a mark in his favor, not the opposite, as a few people here seem to be suggesting. Maybe eviscerating someone in front of the mics and canning them amidst a season that is already lost can provide the fans with a measure of catharsis, but emotional decisions start to acquire the smell of a poverty franchise really quickly. And that is a stench that can quickly affect perceptions and culture both inside and outside an organization. By all accounts, for whatever else MLF provides, he has built a strong team culture, and I think high-character moves like avoiding dragging people in the media is a key part of that. I wouldn't want him to change course now so the fans can have some schadenfreude. We can revisit this in the offseason if Barry is retained and they're legitimately trying to contend in 2023. Then there's a problem, but until then, embrace the suck. It can only help the draft slot.
  10. Props to UpandIn for the breakdown on Leonhard, and to Joe Barry for demonstrating why Leonhard almost couldn’t possibly be any worse.
  11. And for the second week in a row, in a must-win situation, Barry can’t deliver. This time, his defense wasn’t even in the same zip code of where we needed it to be. I don’t know what else anyone needs to see.
  12. Throw 500 TDs and they won’t ask who they’re to…
  13. Pretty much since Nick Collins broke his neck. It’s just been a decade of pain.
  14. Non-zero chance you are correct.
  15. Yeah, 4th and 8 and half a QB out there. FG was all they had.
  16. This is all shaping up nicely for the “Rodgers did all he could but we lost, we’ve got almost no chance at the playoffs, it’s time for him to go on IR and give Love a look” angle.
  17. This defense just sucks. The end.
  18. You’re right, my fault. Saw 20 points on the board and got excited.
  19. Return gets us to midfield, and we do three and out. Gross
  20. I am so sick of soft coverage. My kingdom for a defense that can line up and challenge dudes.
  21. This game is bananas. We even have multiple missed PATs
  22. That holding penalty is brutal.
