  1. Just saw this McCalvy tweet: Adam McCalvy @AdamMcCalvy Just food for thought as you debate the Brewers' decision to start Eric Lauer in a must-win game today over bringing back Corbin Burnes: In the Wild Card era (1995-present), starters on short rest in the postseason are 30-45 with a 4.58 ERA, averaging 5.1 innings. So ... logic says they are making the correct call. Don't get me wrong I hope like heck I am wrong. Just a very difficult spot to put a guy who at the break was our number 6 starter. If he feels the pressure of the moment early the offense will not have enough to come back imo. I hate Riley and Duvall against Lauer. Hope Counsell has everyone on high alert including Woodruff if need be for an inning.
  2. I will go on record as saying pitching Lauer instead of Burnes is a mistake but it probably doesn't matter. The fact that Yelich is hitting three means Counsell is not living in the reality needed for the situation. You went out and got Escobar to help your offense and sure he's been rough but still. I thought he could play the outfield some?? I would rather see him or even Jace than Yelich or Garcia today. If Lauer gives up anything early and puts pressure on the offense it's good night.
  3. I am sure this has been covered before but I just do not feel good about a hitting instructor who has zero major league hitting experience. I know it's dumb but I just feel like there is only so much Haines can do with his relative lack of experience to fall back on. How do you know what Yelich or Hiura is going through when you have never been there in the arena. Counsell seems like a decent manager in part because he's been there and done that. Hire a Paul Molitor type who can at least say here is my best advice based on my experience. I just think when this series is over a change has to be made. The Brewers have to invest whatever it takes to get Yelich turned around because the future is bleak if he doesn't.
  4. This team needs an anchor in the lineup and there are tons in free agency. Freeman gives the Braves one. Yelich is no longer able to do it so changes need to be made.
  5. This team appears to be hopeless against left handed pitching. How do we fix that in a week??
  6. I am with you. I just don't get the sense they are really ready to go. The Williams thing kinda just added extra fuel to that fire. Just an example of where they seem to be at the moment. How does a guy with everything they have worked for suddenly lose it and smash his hand?? Maybe it is not fair but just a loss of focus for a day or two and you are done. Seems like Garcia is out of the lineup every other day. Tellez just got back. Cousins has been out and his first postseason appearance will be with no net. I have a sinking feeling we are going to see JBJ on the roster which would be a shame as he does not deserve it. Just a ton of little things that alarm me about this team right now but still hope to be proven wrong.
  7. If anyone feels that this team is going to just flip a switch and sweep the Braves next week after basically looking a mess for two weeks I am shocked by that. The brewers have taken the cue from the manager that these games don't matter and they may not as far as playoff seeding goes but man. You would have loved to see them look at this weekend as a chance to play a high level opponent who you need to beat to get where you want to go and play good ball. It may not matter in the end because the Dodgers are better than them but still.
  8. I actually would not mind Hiura as a bat off the bench if it means no JBJ.
  9. Is it not possible for Woodruff to have a short start on Sunday to prep for next Saturday? I would be kinda surprised is Burnes doesn't start Friday. I don't see anything about Woodruff pitching Sunday so I think it would be strange to pitch Burnes twice before Woodruff gets his next start. Hope they don't overthink this thing. Lineup your three best guys to win as quickly as possible.
  10. The question is Burnes starting on Sat seems to mean Woodruff in game one on Friday. If it was me I would prefer Burnes lined up in game one especially if Woodruff is going to be going on 12 days rest. Brewers have to win the first two games at home despite not playing great at home. The Williams situation does not help for sure. Riley is a right handed monster who late in the game would be a Williams match up same with Swanson and Soler and Duvall. Counsell not having a ton of time to rework his back end formula is a problem to me. Ashby is great but he is similar in some ways to Hader and two lefties in the back isn't the same as having the right left combo. Who plays first base?? I think you have to go with Escobar because how else does Urias play?? That is a problem on D. Unless Yelich remembers he won an mvp I am thinking Braves in 5 but I hope I am wrong.
  11. Braves are going to a tough out. They have bats the Brewers do not. It is going to have to be earned for sure.
  12. Game one against Max Fried what are the chances Yelich sits and watches Taylor. I say zero and that's a problem.
  13. Looking at splits is fine. But, with 9 games left in the season and a couple of wins desperately needed, season long splits might not be the best thing to go on. Yelich hasn’t been hitting anyone for the last few weeks, while Taylor hit 2 HRs today against one of the best RHP in the league. It pains me to turn on Yelich because of what he has done for the team and the community in his time here. I really hope he can find his stroke again, though that probably won’t be this season. It’s no time for sentiment. You have to play the players who you think give you the best chance to score runs and win. This all day long. It really is about the here and now. Maybe if they had gotten the job done and you could take the foot off the gas but they need to win games right now. They can not under any circumstances go into St. Louis still needing to win games in order to clinch. They have to get this over with. If Manny Pina has a higher ops than you what is there to even discuss?? Get him out of there and if you find a spot to plug him in to help come playoffs off the bench fine. The combo of terrible offense and horrible defense is just not playable right now imo.
  14. Brewers are a team that uses analytics. There are no analytics out there that tells you Yelich should be playing right now so the question is why is he?? Is someone making an exception?? Is the owner behind it?? What is the story?? I am sure haudricourt will get to the bottom of it.
  15. Play the three best outfielders and stop messing around. If that is the case Yelich comes off the bench imo. Maybe next year he can find himself or whatever he needs to do but I play Taylor Cain and Garcia and try to find a spark from here on out with those three. Factor in the brutal defense and the fact he is no longer a threat at the plate Yelich is killing them and does not deserve to be playing over Taylor. Taylor has hit half as many home runs as Yelich in two games. What exactly is Yelich bringing to the table that Taylor doesn't except a few trophy's on the mantle. No time for history lessons of days gone by. Yelich is not getting it done and should be subject to the same standard of performance as anyone else. It is not the fault of the other 25 guys that you paid him the money. Don't throw the season away hoping against hope the guy remembers how to hit. It has been two full years!! I've seen enough if they want to get to the world series it should be said they did it despite a bad season from Yelich not that they didn't make it because they were waiting for him to come around. This is the same organization that fired the manager with 12 games left in order to make the playoffs. Benching a player is way less dramatic. The lowest ops in the lineup today was Yelich. The worst defender in the lineup today minus Urias was Yelich. It is not enough that he makes the most money. Win at all cost. Even if that cost is his ego.
  16. Let's be real clear here. Outside of Taylor this team would be being shut out again. Pitching is an issue but the offense is wretched and I do not see that changing anytime soon. If you are one of those talking big and bad about how the Cards don't scare me you are not watching the games.
  17. I wonder is there any point the rest of the season if Yelich would be benched in a playoff game due to performance. Say Fried on the mound going with Taylor?? I am all about winning and don't care how the personalities feel about it. I doubt Counsell would do it but he needs to be prepared for anything.
  18. You cannot underestimate how much Yelich being bad hurts this team's chances. You can't win a world series without a stud bat. Avi Garcia ain't exactly what we signed up for imo as good as he's been.
  19. I better not see Ashby coming into this game. Pitch Norris if he's even still here and Vogelbach for all I care. Ashby is one of the top 9 at this point.
  20. Brewers aren't being "punked" at all this is the result of a team that has a lot less to play for right now. No reason at all to try to line up your stud pitchers to face the Cardinals at this point. This team needs to basically lose out in order to lose the division, and if they do that, that means they were playing bad enough baseball where it wasn't going to matter if they were starting Anderson twice in that stretch or not. Anderson has been serviceable enough this year where you don't expect him to give up 6 runs in 1 and 2/3rds innings. Obviously if they expected that they wouldn't have started him. Best case you get 4 solid innings out of him and are in the game, worst case is what happened tonight. Either way, your studs are still getting their rest and ready for the real games in 2 weeks. Well you already pitched two of them and they lost both games. I'm not sure what you mean but if you can't beat them with Peralta and Woodruff you sure ain't beating them with Anderson. The Cards are not the Brewers they can hit lefties.
