  1. There was no chance of Perez coming through here. Bad thing about his pitching yesterday is it makes him a brewer for life.
  2. Ryan Braun strikes out. Hitting clean up tonight. This is the state we are in. People keep talking about bad luck. The guy stinks. The end.
  3. Now that Manny is gone and other deals about to clean out what talent they do have how bad is this team going to finish?? The current record of 28-72 is mind blowing and that is with Manny!! Now Adam Jones and Zack Britton are going to be gone among others. The 2003 Tigers are the worst team I can remember seeing in person. They had the worst record in AL history with 43 wins. I think the Orioles have a chance to smash that record depending on what is left after the deadline. Current payroll is about 150 million dollars!! How is this possible?? I know that we Brewers fans have had our frustrating times but nothing as bad as this seems to be. Buck Showalter is considered a top flight guy in the dugout. What the heck happened here?? Anyone with any insights??
  4. Agreed. I have to think Stearns had a deal that fell through otherwise it made no sense to bring him back if he wasn't going to play everyday after last season.
  5. Huge overpay in my opinion. Bundy currently has 4.57 era. Cain isn't going to play center in a couple of years and Ray needs to be next up. Two starters and an everyday outfielder would be plenty if I am the Orioles. Ray only goes for a top line starter if I am the Brewers.
  6. Good takes!! I agree with all of this although signing Cain should have meant someone someone traded from depth for another starter. Could have saved needing to sign Chacin. Not a killer though as he has been very good.
  7. These are great takes and I appreciate the feedback. This is all I was looking for. Some on this board get so defensive anytime questions get asked about how can we get better and what could we have done. Thanks!!
  8. No. I am not upset at all. In fact I stated I am not looking for a fight as I think he has done well overall. It seems like you are though. I will say I had no problem with the off season in general although I thought we would trade an excess outfielder or two for a starter. I was shocked to get Cain and Yelich and not lose Braun or Santana. Santana had to have more trade value in the off season than he does now. Did not love any of the free agents. not looking for a fight either, but I think its really odd someone is trying to find negative things to justify a future state that we may or may not end up in (missing the playoffs). Again. I am stating facts. If you think Stearns is doing great and you have no problem with the job he is doing fine by me. I think how this season plays out matters. If it doesn't to some so be it.
  9. Fans like this don't deserve a good team?? Fans that ask questions?? Fans that like to talk baseball?? Fans that have sat through 40 years and no titles?? I don't get why brewer fans can't have appreciation for what is being done but ask can we do more. Lots of brewer fans are fine winning 85 games a year missing the playoffs as long as the grill is hot and the beer is cold. I don't get it. At all.
  10. He better find a way to trade for Harper and Scherzer then really quick, too in looking at the schedule...otherwise he's asleep at the wheel, apparently. I'm not giving DS a free pass, but at this point I'm actually more concerned if he makes a trade or two "just to make a move" before the deadline - and it winds up sending prospects away for 2018 rentals that still had longterm potential with the Brewers. If its rental pieces like Dozier, package a group of prospects that are blocked by a combination of controllable MLB players and more talented prospects at their position. He didn't fall asleep failing to land Quintana last season - he just didn't have one of the five best prospects in all of baseball to offer up for him that the Cubs did at the time. Not landing Machado has more to do with him valuing guys like Burnes, Peralta, Hiura, etc as either current or immediate future contributors to the MLB club - prospects who should be nowhere near a trade offer from a small market club for any rental. To me, the biggest question I currently have with DS/Brewer management is how they are handling their internal pitching options. Nelson's stagnant recovery from shoulder surgery has been a huge blow to their 2018 rotation plans, IMO - unfortunate but also something that their apparent workaround was having a ton of so-so options hanging around the 40 man that could at least get you close to 5 innings of competitive innings most times out. The problem with that is Anderson hasn't been as good as last season when he was healthy in 2017, and Davies has given them nothing due to performance/injury. When their most consistent starters have been Chacin (ideal for a #5 in a good rotation) and Guerra (solid bounceback year, but still inconsistent at times as the innings pile up), they don't have anyone remotely close to what Nelson gave them last year - an anchor starter you could expect to go at least 7 IP most nights and give you a great chance to win every 5 days without having to use all your reliable late inning pen arms. With the current options they have, I wonder why they aren't strongly considering shifting Burnes into Suter's role - he could actually use the expanded innings workload to keep him in line for an opening day rotation spot next season. It's tough getting on DS for failing to bring in every player everyone wants - his big offseason acquisitions of Yelich and Cain have proven to be quality ones. Holding onto Aguilar when most of us expected him to either be cut or traded for nothing at the end of Spring Training is an obviously good decision. Jeffress and Chacin signings look great and solid, respectively. The MIF black hole at the MLB level in the organization would look alot less bleak had Arcia just treaded water offensively in his development this year. I agree with much of this. The Burnes situation and Woodruff for that matter baffle me. The most important commodity in baseball is young starting pitching. Hader gets turned into a reliever and now with a shaky rotation we turn our number one starting prospect into a relief pitcher?? Woodruff was a top 100 prospect and now he has been on the merry go round back and forth starting and in the pen. I don't get it. Did Thor or Degrom start off in the pen?? This is an area of major concern. We won't trade Burnes for Manny but we won't let him start a game?? Would like to be in the room for these decisions to understand it.

  13. This definitely should have been factored into the calculation for sure. These seven games it would be nice to have him on our side.
  14. Scooter was released. Part of my point.
  15. Say the Brewers fail to make the playoffs and fade from the race without any kind of major move does David Stearns get a free pass?? I know he has done a great job on the whole. It just seems like he is not as aggressive in making moves that are clearly needed to take advantage of the opportunity to win now. As a lifelong brewers fan my lack of perspective haunts me. I realize Stearns does not view things through the prism of 4 playoff appearance in 40 years. That said who knows what the future brings says Jimmy Nelson shoulder?? You have to strike and he seems paralyzed to a degree. Missing out on Manny to me is a major mistake just because it was so clear of a fit. You have to find a way to make that trade happen. Trading Segura and getting rid of Scooter only to watch the middle infield become a disaster is problematic. Braun still being here is unbelievable although I know that problem was not from his watch. I am not making a case he should be gone or anything of the sort just that I don't here anything negative about the guy ever. It almost feels like Brewer fans are so impressed with the overall job he has done they are loth to review his work in real time and think was that a good move? Last year watching this team melt down I thought no way Stearns let's that happen again and here we are it's happening. The roster shuffling that has gone on especially in the bullpen is a case of Stearns being the smartest guy in the room with his 40 man roster beats 25 man roster play. He inherited Counsell so we don't really know his hiring skills as it relates to a manager which I am curious about as well. Just looking for some feedback and discussion on the job he has done. Outside of the Shaw trade and picking up Aguliar for free what is his best work?? If we miss the playoffs again is it job well done?? Or more along the lines of what's going on here?? Not looking for a fight just a discussion.
  16. I don't know if we need both. Unless saledino or Miller are going to be sent packing. Maybe throw in Villar to clear up the log jam. Rentals are not ideal especially since our playoff odds are in the tank.
  17. It should. He looks gassed. Maybe Albers can take his spot.
  18. This much is clear 1-20 this roster is good enough to compete with anyone in the league. Problem is 20-25 are so bad that it makes winning tough. This team is short at second and catcher along with a starter and two pen arms. Stearns watching Rome burn is maddening.
  19. The brewers are the only team in mlb that is taking the most valuable commodity in the game and turning it into a dime a dozen commodity. First Hader now Burnes. After watching Burnes dominate the rest of the year in the pen we will get another story about how valuable he is in this role. The Brewers need to decide what they are going to do as soon as next season with this rotation. Is Davies in it?? Does Nelson make it back?? Are Burnes and Freddy in it?? Is Anderson gone?? What is Woodruff trade bait or starter?? Lots of questions but this is a fact, the two best arms I have seen this year are Peralta and Burnes. They need to be groomed to be the 1 and 1a moving forward in my opinion. Chacin has proven to be a good 4 man and I am fine with Suter as a five. It would be awesome to package the filler for a real #1 but Burnes gives me hope.
  20. I'm just saying it is kinda weird that she is asking questions like a media member but she works for the team. What's she going to do ask Counsell why didn't you get him out of there Craig? Most people do not know she works for the team. Obviously people on this board who are serious fans don't know. Journal Sentinel is mostly to blame as they look to be friends first. Just frustrated that we never seen to get answers. Must be nice working in Milwaukee compared to most places.
  21. Does anyone else think it is a problem having Sophia Minnert asking Craig Counsell questions after the game as a media person when she is now employed by the team?? I just don't understand how she is going to be willing to ask the tough questions that demand answers after a game like yesterday. The obvious questions were why Knebel so long?? Why pull Williams? Why not stall for time or demand a stoppage? Yet we start with Chacin threw the ball great right Craig?? Still an awesome first half heh Craig? Watch post game presses in Chicago New York Philly. Matheny is gone because those dudes were grilling him nightly on his mistakes. I am tired of watching Counsell throw out some jive and keep on moving. She is not the only problem of course but the most obvious. I think she is awesome on the broadcast but should not be put in a conflict position if she can't get us answers. My take. Thoughts?
