  1. I didn't get to see a single minute of the game on Thursday. How did failed starter Freddy Peralta look?
  2. Name the RH batter on the team who you think is better right now. It's more a statement of how bad the state of the team's RH batting is than a statement of how good Hiura is yet. I do believe he's going to be an elite bat but it's not a high bar to be the best RH in the Brewers organization right now. All the more reason why he should be in Milwaukee.
  3. It would be excusable if this was brought on by injuries. Perez is batting 4th because the team's best RH bat is in AAA for no good reason. Jacob Barnes being in Milwaukee and Hiura in San Antonio is the problem.
  4. Agenda and stats you say. Hernan Perez is a career .276 avg, .298 obp, .754 ops hitter vs LHP. Living in small samples is not the place to reside if you're going to throw stats around. Last place teams throw hitters with those kind of career splits in the 4-hole. Ask yourself if you think Hernan Perez is suddenly going to be a cleanup-calibur hitter and will find himself batting there vs lefties going forward. You already know the answer.
  5. Batting Perez 4th when the organization's arguable best right handed bat is wasting away in AAA is not a good look. Don't get me wrong, I hope Hernan goes 4 for 4 today. I just wouldn't ever go into a day banking on him at the cleanup spot.
  6. Facing a tough lefty today so obviously RH bats are a priority and what do we wind up with? Hernan Perez batting cleanup. The absurdity of Keston Hiura being in AAA right now.
  7. Peralta --- "wrong move" instead of Wilkerson and "failed starter" makes for a good laugh
  8. I don't think it works that way.
  9. A good catching prospect is like gold and the Brewers have been accumulating catching every since Stearns took over. I don't think it's coincidence. They don't even have to reach the level of most hitters to hold great value.
  10. This game, and the dent it's going to put on the Brewers run differential, is not going to help with the playoff projection models. And Williams faring no better than a position player on the mound isn't going to make anyone feel good about Hiura being in San Antonio.
  11. The priority for the Brewers should be winning major league baseball games. By all appearances and measureables, sending Hiura away weakens the major league roster and runs contradictory to that goal.
  12. Small was Toby's top remaining college lefty
  13. Commercial break coming right after they discuss the Cubs pick no doubt.
  14. I was just trying to compile that, Eye Black. Thank you!
  15. For me the most significant reason I'm against this move is because I think it weakens the team. They lack RH bats and they just sent away one of their best. I hope Shaw comes up and knocks the cover off the ball and the team wins 60+% of their games until this inevitably sorts itself out. I have zero doubts about Hiura's ability once he returns and that could come very quickly. He'll be up with the next injury to a position player or at the trade deadline at the latest. My one fear is Shaw continuing to be abysmal at the plate, the offense going into a funk, the team going into a losing spell, and the team missing the playoffs by a game or two. Under that scenario, they would have arguably pee'd away a season in a contending window for a very poor reason. Fans would have a right to hold it against them however they choose. It's a gamble I don't agree with taking.
  16. One hypothetical that can actually occur is a trade. Anyone want to take up a defense that Shaw has more trade value? I wouldn't think so. Hiura should be the one they should be focused on getting/keeping going. There are only so many ABs to go around and the deference should be to Hiura in getting them. They need that RH bat.
  17. I don't object at all to your characterization of Hiura as more important than Shaw to the team going forward. Both control and ceiling are why. I'd love to hear the argument from someone who thinks the Brewers would keep Shaw if held at gunpoint and forced to pick between them. Shaw plays a more valuable defensive position but the disparity between the two in terms of control, ceiling, and age is just too great.
  18. Right, I'm sure the model is working appropriately. It's also working off of likely very flawed projections. Probably some combination of preseason projections slightly modified. Yep, all flawed in some way no doubt to varying degress. Fangraphs seems to be currently the worst at figuring out the Brewers. They just as easily could be the best predictor for other teams. I think what FG struggles with most is the way the Brewers play splits so heavily. Both on the hitting and pitching side.
  19. I don't know what to tell you other than there is no bias in a statistical model. Flaws, yes. Bias, no.
  20. Big market bias in full swing again, it won’t even change when the crew wins the World Series, now when they win back to back championships......... They're statistical models. I believe the Cubs greater odds are based primarily on run differential not bias.
  21. Yeah, I suppose if IL manipulation becomes too big an issue, they could up it more to something like 20 days. I hope not.
  22. Bolded is pretty much where I'm at. There's almost always some sore muscle or joint that can be exaggerated on any given day for just about every player. I feel like that's what the Brewers are exploiting here. If there wasn't a roster crunch, I think there's a good chance either Gio's or Chacin's IL stays never happen.
  23. +1 This would seem a lot more likely to happen IMO. Especially the "if at all" part.
  24. If I'm not mistaken, we were all here in spring contemplating phantom IL stays as a way to manage innings for the youngsters so I guess it's not all that surprising that the Brewers are doing it to find playing time for a team with more than 25 capable major leaguers. Good problem to have. I wonder what MLB is going to do to try and combat it. I'm not sure they can since there is no way to prove someone's body part isn't fatigued or sore. At least none that I know of.
