  1. I hope Yelich wins a 2nd MVP and that all 4 of Brinson, Diaz, Harrison, and Yamamoto go on to have successful major league careers. No matter how well any of those 5 people do from here on out, the trade has already proven to be the right move. Anything from here on out is too far removed from time of transaction to be predictable or foreseen with any high degree of certainty.
  2. Well, are you running around proclaiming the opposite of what you said earlier in an attempt to make it look like you knew something no one else did? His original comments were harmless. It's the current comments which are completely dreamt up. And it didn't require searching archives. They're comments from this same thread. Nobody put a gun to his asking for revisionist history about Jordan Yamamoto now that the latter is having some early success in the majors.
  3. It's not a dig, it's showing the truth. With Yamamoto doing well with Miami, he's on here telling everyone how he proclaimed Yamamoto was the piece that terrified him at the thought of losing when the Yelich trade was made. He said nothing of the sort. In general, everyone here should rest comfortably that the trade was a slam dunk, a home run. Even if all 4 Marlins end up contributing as major leaguers, we don't need people being revisionist about the deal. The Brewers got more than they possibly could have asked for. It's actually quite astonishing given what Yelich has accomplished that people are still looking back in fear at what was given up.
  4. It only took around 20 pages and approximately a dozen posts to finally detect some mild disappointment in losing Yamamoto... Terrified indeed.
  5. I'll miss him starting every at bat down 0-2.
  6. Seems revisionist. These were your first 3 posts in reaction to the trade.... If Yamamoto was the piece that terrified you, surely you would have talked about the pitching he would give the Marlins in 2-3 years. Looks like he wasn't included in your group of rising arms either. Just the positives of Yelich, no caution about the loss of Yamamoto. Not one mention of the guy you were "terrified" was included. You went so far as to say no TOP ARMS were included. So Yamamoto wasn't a top arm in your mind then?
  7. With the standard some seem to hold Hiura to around here, I guess I just assumed that he'd be able to will the starting staff to pitch better. You mean the standard the Rick Sweet holds Hiura to? Because Sweet has him up there with some of the greats... The people who were up in arms when Hiura went down and are up in arms now, have every reason to be.
  8. Yeah filling a stadium with road team fans for 8 regular season games is a lot different than trying to fill one up 81 times including a lot of weekdays. The Packers will play in Las Vegas something like once every 8 years. Of course visiting fans are going to fly in on those rare occasions. That's night and day from MLB where the Brewers could play here every year depending on what league the Vegas team would play in. Once the luster wears off, you're not banking on visiting fans providing half your attendance like the Raiders can. Another factor in whether MLB could thrive in Las Vegas is where the team comes from. There is a huge base of season tickets for the Raiders from people who will drive in from California. I just helped a buyer find a place that he will use 4-5 weekends a year. You're not getting that same effect with a team moving from Florida. Half of the Las Vegas Raiders fan base will be lifelong fans of the team who reside in California. An MLB team from anywhere but California would be relying on the locals adopting the team. Are there any California MLB teams even looking to move? Again this market is the size of Kansas City, already has a thriving NHL team, is about to have an NFL team, and could get very well add the NBA before an MLB team even breaks ground on a stadium. It comes down to the order of arrival. I firmly believe the NHL only worked here because they were first. Everyone thinks the Golden Knights were popular because they were good from the start. The reality is this town was GK crazy before they played their first game. Why? Because they were the first major pro sports team here. If Las Vegas already had NFL, NBA, and MLB, I don't think an NHL team would have had a snowballs chance in the desert of surviving.
  9. I was referring to Nelson's own words, not Stearns'... https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2019/06/04/brewers-pitcher-jimmy-nelson-excited-first-start-since-2017/1337102001/ This is just pure speculation, nothing more, but I get the sense that Nelson was pressuring the Brewers to bring him back in spite of the fact he was still struggling with minor league batters. It's unfortunate but it's been proven out that he's just not ready. They kept him down longer than he wanted but unfortunately for all, he should have been down longer.
  10. I don't fault Nelson for declining the trip to San Antonio, he's earned that right. As JosephC pointed out it could be in his best interest at some point. And that time could come quickly. The only aspect of all this that doesn't sit right with me is the fuss Nelson made when he wasn't called up when he thought he should be. I believe it came a couple weeks after he expected and he didn't hide his anger about it. Well now it's clear he wasn't ready.
  11. Sure sounds like the Brewers tried to get Nelson to accept a trip down to AAA but he declined...
  12. As the article hints to towards the end, there is absolutely no buzz in Las Vegas for major league baseball. People seem very happy with the nice new minor league stadium and AAA baseball. I hear buzz about the NBA all the time. And with the popularity of the Golden Knights and the excitement over the Raiders imminent arrival, I just can't see the appeal to move a team here and be 4th in line. This market ranks one spot above Kansas City.
  13. Lol, where is this Vegas stuff coming from? I live here and work in real estate. They just built a brand new AAA stadium that opened last month. They are building a stadium for the Raiders. They already built a hockey arena and host an NHL team. And they have a site excavated for a 2nd arena that could host an NBA team. None of those things add up to a MLB team coming here. They'd be 4th in line and in direct opposition to the newly constructed AAA stadium. The population couldn't support it. I'd seriously question those sources.
  14. Really? It seems like 90% of the posts on this forum are either complaints about the pitching or exploring ways to improve it.
  15. That's some seriously strange logic. Because pitching is a bigger problem it excuses not making a simple smaller fix?
  16. 15 days ago the Brewers optioned Hiura to AAA and "hoped" they'd be covered against LHP by giving those starts at 2B to Hernan Perez who had been mashing LHP well above his career numbers in a small sample. Here are Perez's numbers over the last 15 days while Hiura has been away... 22 AB, 4 H, 0 XBH, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 5 SO, .182 AVG, .240 OBP, .182 SLG, .422 OPS Needless to say, not what they were hoping for.
  17. Odd thing to say coming off a 2-0 loss. Hiura doesn't solve all the problems of this team, but he has shown the ability to help solve one of them. I don't think there's a person here who thinks the team is better equipped to win a game today with him in AAA.
  18. I would not be surprised if the Brewers get swept. This is the type of series we as fans go into expecting to take at least 2 of 3 but the Brewers crap the bed and get swept. Like against the Angels earlier this year. Based on that logic, no one should ever be surprised at an outcome of any series. Sweep, get swept, split, take 2 of 3, drop 2 of 3. It's baseball.
  19. Given how skeptical people were of Hiura (a much higher rated prospect than any of Diaz, Yamamoto, Harrison) I find it pretty amusing that suddenly all three are a shoo-in to be significant MLB contributors. I'd bet on all 4 combined prospects not reaching 25 career WAR. It's way to early to be throwing around some of the recent comments off of one Jordan Yamamoto start. The Brewers almost assuredly fleeced the Marlins. Not because they didn't give up quality prospects but because no one thought Yelich was going to turn into prime Barry Bonds.
  20. I actually get the sense they're going to go on a tear soon. This offense is already pretty damn good and it's not even close to tapping into its full potential. And they have the pieces to put together a very deep pitching staff. At some point the stars will align and they'll have a 12-13 man group with everyone contributing. I really believe that.
  21. Truce. Now mods, go ahead please and delete everything back to post #1151, lol.
  22. I'm not going to advocate trading Davies but I also wouldn't bet on him being the Brewers "best starter" come Sept/Oct either. It's not hard to imagine a scenario where via a combo of Davies' regression and the ascension of others, he finds himself well down the pecking order. Just this past season, he was so far down the pecking order that he could only manage 1 IP in the entire postseason. Woodruff is right there with him currently. And any or all of Chacin, Gio, Peralta, Burnes, Nelson could be throwing the ball better than Zach in a few months time. It would be great if this is the real Zach Davies but I just can't sell myself entirely on him quite yet.
  23. And unfortunately they have the 22nd ranked OPS at 3rd base. I do see a way to rank very highly at both spots going forward though...
  24. Lest we not forget that 97 is the equivalent of 99-100 (!!!) given Freddy's physics-defying release point. This is someone you stick with because if it all comes together, you've got something special. And he just turned 23 last week.
  25. We got good Freddy. It was awesome. Hopefully it's a step toward putting his bipolar ways behind him. I did read the game story about him pitching with a quicker pace. Hopefully that was the needed fix.
