  1. Of course, just like in real life. And, just like in real life, if people are acting spoiled they will get called out on it. I think it fits here but I started my fandom in the mid 70's and I do not want to go back.
  2. If a player has an evaluator in his ear saying he needs to show he can hit the 3 point shot to get the NBA's attention, the path is not to just go out and throw up 3 pointers. The path is to become that player. If you become that player your coach will put in in a position to show that to the NBA. Your example ironically points to some Wisconsin #5s who became three point shooters and had a chance at the NBA after they were told they needed that skill.
  3. To your point, they are being lumped together which is probably unfair individually. However, some of the comments are selfish and childish, especially for college seniors. The biggest problem for the magnificent 7, is that one or more were in on recording the meeting, editing the tape, and then sending it out to a reporter who was willing to write less than half of a story. I dismiss Tucker as a possibility but if he is the culprit my thoughts still apply. The person (or worse people) who recorded this private conversation also were in a position of power to influence the flow. If they used this power, they may have said things to influence others to things they may not have said otherwise. Much like a team brainstorming session. Since they chose to edit the tape, submit it anonymously, and not return the reporters phone calls, I would assume they had an axe to grind and did lead the conversation.
  4. No company that gives a rip about employee satisfaction is going to hire a replacement before getting rid of the problem employee. With the exception of sports where they hope every draft pick and free agent signing is a replacement for someone on the team. Including Love who has now displaced Tim Boyle. Having said that, do more players retire from sports or get cut and then retire?
  5. As a narcissist, Rodgers knows he is the smartest man in the room. He must realize his current contract is to his advantage in many ways with the exception that it possibly means he does not retire as a Packer if he holds on too long. Since everything he is doing and apparently saying puts that in jeopardy anyway (no pun intended), I can’t get a handle on what he is really looking for other than he does want to be the highest paid QB and/or wants to be guaranteed some income for whatever reason. With his current contract if he plays good to great the next three years, he has to know that Love will not take over until 2024 at the earliest doesn’t he? And, even then it might not happen. There is no way he thinks Love will win the job in that span, his ego will not allow it. In that span, if they do cut him, he knows he will have his choice of teams one step away to go to. He could even build a super team as has been out there recently.
  6. So by saying that you feel he feels threatened by Love? That was my previous point.
  7. I think the argument that they are not doing enough to win now has mostly been proven wrong, even in this thread. As far as a bigger commitment from the Packers, he has had that in the past, apparently, they have been working on it. I think this is the biggest stumbling block on both sides. I am not suggesting that Love will be better or that others think he will. But your point about having more money to work with is probably accurate and the threat that people are referring too. All of a sudden, they can sign/resign high quality and depth.
  8. That’s sort of where I’m at too ... Love is still ‘mint in box’ due to the unique offseason / preseason situation last year. The Packers have been the only team evaluating him for the last 12 months. If they privately thought he wasn’t as good as their pre-draft assessment, I think they would have just given Rodgers whatever he wanted by now. After reading/listening to a lot of opinions about what is going on, it seems that all the conversation comes down too an appearance that most fans and talking heads think the 3 time MVP is threatened by some 2020 draft pick who is poised to take his spot away..
  9. Alright, can anyone beat this Opening Day hot take? Going once....going twice... I thought this one was better: "So if Narvaez can't hit anymore, and he makes such awkward positioning block ling balls in the dirt, why is he still here?"
  10. From another thread: Thanks, I was not sure how to state that without blowing up. I say it as someone who does buy into the optics. My work involves traveling to meet on location with various business owners and executives all day. I wear a mask. I bring sanitizer and use it as I often touch paper records provided by them along with desks, chairs i sit in, etc. I make sure to always use the sanitizer in front of them. In today's world, optics are everything. The "intelligent and educated" are among us and ready to report you if they don't feel safe. Agreed, though I am not so crazy about the optics. I was on the road from July through December installing new important Covid related equipment at one of our plants. It is not hard to stay safe and still participate in society.
  11. Thanks, I was not sure how to state that without blowing up.
  12. Not a chance that MLB goes to a most restrictive state's policy. If the NFL did that the season would have ended when San Fran was forced to play their final home games in Arizona. If the NBA did that there would be no fans at games.
  13. There's a big $$ difference in starting the clock early on your 18th best prospect than there is on a top 20 prospect in all of baseball. The two I assume you are referring to are 20 and 21 year old prospects. There is no smoking gun that show he was talking about either of them. He even pointed out that the players he was talking about had no chance of seeing AAA or the bigs if not for Covid.
  14. "We brought 18, 19, 20 year old kids who never would have seen T-Mobile Park or Cheney Stadium if not for COVID." Doesn't sound like he was unwilling to start the clock on regular prospects just the ones noted in the above quote. "Because there was no chance you were going to see these young players at T-Mobile Park. We weren’t going to put them on the 40-man roster, we weren’t going to start the service time clock."
  15. As a spring tree pollen allergy sufferer, this is absolutely true.
  16. Why can't it be both? If you are bunting to break up a no-hitter, then you must think that bunting is your best chance to get on base. If you utilize your best chance to get on base then you are doing your best to help your team win. I don't understand the mental gymnastics required to separate the two.
  17. I don't care for a minimum batter count for pitchers and I really like the gamesmanship that goes with a LOOGY and other short relief stints. I would go with a play clock so to speak. If a theoretical or real pitch clock is 20 seconds then you have x seconds to make a pitching change. x would be some number closer to 30 than 60 in which the relief pitcher pitches his first pitch. In my world the manager hits the top step of the dugout and signals a pitching change, clock starts. Actually the clock would have to start based on some combination of events to prevent coaches from milling around before making the call etc. Reliever comes in ready to pitch or warms up until ready. If he needs more time, catcher tells batter to step out of the box and a ball is called for 20 more seconds. Play moves on. I just came up with this 5 minutes ago so I am sure there are plenty of what ifs that will come........could become the new intentional walk strategy I suppose.
  18. That is what I thought too. Except based on 2018 that would mean only one team is paying the lux tax. If that were the case I would have guess that he would have said something like "29 teams have room under the lux tax to add payroll."
  19. Can you clarify this for me? Are you saying that 20 teams are at least $75 mil under the tax threshold? OR Are you saying 20 teams are $75 mil total under the tax threshold? I can't make either statement work with what I can find on 2018 salaries.
