  1. I think they holding houser back for Peralta game, probably Smith. A couple months from now our pen should be so strong it could be jeffress. If they are holding a reliever back just for Peralta’s start, I think that’s a mistake. It leaves the pen continuously short handed. Actually, they pitched him a couple days before his opener, so he could pitch I think.

  3. Wrong base Haywood. It’s great we seem to bring out the worst from the Cubbies! Ever since that asinine commentary from Hamels, we’ve been in their heads and dominating them.
  4. Crisis? I’d say no, but the pen will get stronger when Anderson and Nelson are back, and we have another starter or two in the pen. Burnes Guerra Hader kimbrel sure would be a nice backend though.
  5. I am positive there is no need for you to comment further...........on anything. I mean if you have three aces in your hand and one on the river why continue to pour it on. I think you absolutely nailed it. Feel better? If the answere is yes, then I feel sorry for you.
  6. So what does that mean? How does a slight advantage manifest in wins/losses? Most teams have a slight advantage being at home anyway. What does that mean? Not sure I need to comment any further.
  7. Forecast calling for 10 mph winds all weekend from N to NE to E, so blowing in, with temps upper 40s today low 50s Tom and mid 40s Sunday. Imo brewers not a cold weather team, certainly don’t play many games in the cold like the Cubbies do, so I’d give a slight advantage to the Cubbies this weekend.
  8. Maybe, but the higher the AAV the more it would hurt the teams with tax issues, and then you have the braves, whose corporate ownership might relent on a one year.
  9. What makes August 30th so special? If they wait that long might as well wait until next April and gain the extra year. I think he can help now but if they wait until August 30 then the Brewers have doubts. Before sept 1 So he’s playoff eligible
  10. I’m glad you said what I didn’t/couldn’t say without irritating the masses. But I’m hoping for the slim possibility of Stearns not wanting to lose another pick and the teams that really want kimbrel just won’t spend the $ because of the tax. And the one team that needs him the most the braves remain steadfast in their greed.
  11. I might be a month or so early in saying this, and yes I do know this is not the brewer optimism thread, but this pitching staff is the best I’ve seen in at least 27 years, maybe ever. 9 Starters deep, all at least ave to above, most with lots of experience pitching in big games, most still in their prime physically. Most important I’m confident in their ability to keep us in games. The bullpen is even more exciting, with 3-4 of Burnes Peralta Anderson woodruff Nelson Houser joining the pen over the next month or two. Not to mention a youngin or two if needed from down below. Jeffress improving by the start, Albers pitching well, Hader the best there is, and then we have our secret true weapon in junior Guerra, who can close or pitch 3. This pen will be our ticket to the series.
  12. The fact of not calling up Hiura now to face the cubs tells me that once they call him up( past super 2) he’s up to stay. When that time will be I think depends on Shaw Aguilar Thames and how well they are hitting. If and when he gets called up it would be to play a lot not pinch hit or play vs lefties imo. I hope it’s not til aug 30, cause that would mean the aforementioned trio would be hitting.
  13. Yes, agree no FA signing, it’s too early to know what we need by trade, but IF Nelson helps as much as I think he will, and there’s no catastrophic injuries, maybe a small move or two, to supliment a very strong team. I believe by mid July Peralta,Burnes, Nelson/woodruff, Sanchez?, Perdomo?, Rasmussen? Would mitigate a real need for a serviceable arm, and I don’t see Stearns giving up what would be needed to land a colome or will Smith. Just not seeing any glaring needs that can’t be filled internally, although it is a little early to know for sure.
  14. Yes, I misread your post, do agree if he keeps improving, will outperform his non-bluechip prospect rating. If he continues his improvement of his FB command he’s a 2. Then if he can command his change-up a 1.
  15. Agree that woodruff was the only one ready for the rotation, age, experience likely the reason. I would slightly differ with the good but not blue chip commentary, his easy 97 And plus slider and close to plus command has him at the good level now with an improving change-up and command probably moving him closer to the top of the rotation in the near future.
  16. Over the past month (since April 5) Orlando Arcia is hitting .287 BA / .330 OBP / .435 SLG. Since this is the optimism thread I will say that .766 OPS is likely the new normal for Arcia, but I will acknowledge there is a chance he may currently be outperforming expectations with the bat. True but I was really just taking the overall season. If we can take recent splits I would say there is no way Grandal hit as poorly as he has the last month - .218/.330/.346. For the overall season I think Arcia is right in line with what I expected We are a sleeping giant, and when we awaken, we’re going to separate from every team in the NL except the dodgers, who we will beat, on our way to winning the series.
