  1. Despite solid stuff he really had to survive the first 2 innings. Nothing seemed truly overpowering. I could see him as a long man, inning eater in games where we are down. He did fine but it didn't feel like he was fooling anyone or getting anything easy. At least he has 3 pitches. Peralta has looked decidedly better than Houser. I concur, Peralta showed tonight he can pitch out of the pen, FB will tick up, potential weapon, just like last year in the playoffs against the dodgers.
  2. I literally gasped when I read this. I’d trade Corey Ray for Mad Bum
  3. Lead with that next time I'm looking forward to tonight's game because they are thinking outside the box in an attempt to get an uber-talented young pitcher right. If we want to see success for this team long-term, it's going to take developing talented arms like Peralta, and finding ways to help them find the most success. Great takes from the both of you. Agree it’s a creative way to try to get Peralta right with-out sending him back to AAA just yet. And Houser is real talented as well, be great if they both can help the big league team this year even if it’s out of the pen pitching multi-innings.
  4. Those extension situations are always easier said than done, because you need to have interest from both sides in doing it. Until it does (if it does), it is in the team's best interest to play the Super 2 game. If Hiura's camp is interested, I'm sure Stearns and company would take a hard look at doing it, as it makes solid financial sense from the team's perspective. Also, I include "mid-market" with the caveat that likely the only thing making the Brewers a mid-market team is the fact that they are a playoff contender and have several highly marketable players that have increased national exposure and, therefore, the fanbase. If that changes, they'll be back to being one of the smallest markets pretty quick, as the market itself has not gotten demonstrably larger. Your correct in that it takes two to tango. If I’m the crew I call him up for the cubs series to face the lefty’s, then send him down, getting the potentially lethal righty bat in the line-up. This staff can get by with 7 pen arms for 3 days. What’s the downside?
  5. Yeah it was mentioned on Super 2 we already control him 7 seasons upon calling him up. He just goes through 4 years of Arbitration vs a 4th year of major league minimum. I'm just in the mindset that clearly these days you lock up guys that go through your farm with these expectations pretty early. Takes out the Super 2/Arb worries like that. Someone then mentioned to do the extension for 8 years. I never quite get that. You control Hiura through 2025 and that 8th year would only be 2026. Any extension should go for 3 years where you have options to pick up in year 9 or just 10. You're likely getting the best value with the added non-FA years than the typical extension price. You'd probably get in the 13mil range vs the 20 or higher he's getting in FA or commanding. You also lock down that avoidance to a very high Arb year. So, Bring him up and see the kid produce or not. Or not can always mean sending him down and rewinding that clock before Super 2 status. Good points. The exact rules of Super 2 were a tad lost in translation on my end Still, that extra year of cheap control is of great value, especially with a budget-conscious mid to small-market club. Love seeing the mid to small-market used to accurately describe where we are as a franchise in relation to the other teams. Other than myself, don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone on this site say anything other than small market brewers, nice to see. Anyhow I said the Eloy Jiménez type extension ( 6 yrs at 43 mil with 2 club options at 16.5 and 18.5 ) because of the fact Eloy when signed hadn’t played in a big league game, Like Hiura, with a prospect ranking similar, bout as close a comparable as can get. I’d love for the team to get another year or two, but for that to happen a Precident would have to be set.
  6. Why can't they plan to bring him up for a few weeks and then send him back down til sometime in the second half? The "Super two" cut-off only matters if the guy stays up permanently. And it doesn't add a year of control, it just cheapens one of his years of control. He's an extension candidate too, so it may not matter one way or the other. Yes. This is the player we sign to a team friendly Eloy Jiménez type deal ASAP. Lock him up for 8 years, thru his prime. Come on DS get er done.
  7. He’s back! I saw a below 3 era pitcher last night, which would be fine for the pen we have now, super excited to see jj able to pitch effectively again.
  8. Entire pitching staff stabilized with the ending of the great experiment, Burnes out Anderson in, Gio in. Burnes to pen. Woody pitching like he’s capable, Wilson gone, Barnes sent down, Guerra dominating, Albers great, jeffress getting better, Hader is Hader. What a fantastic turnaround in a week or so’s time, and all the credit to Chris hook.
  9. Mat Gamel flamed out after he tore his knee up - twice - he never got a chance at extended MLB playing time to make that final adjustment before he got hurt. That's not a prospect busting out of MLB because he wasn't good enough. And Gamel was never considered half the hitter Braun was as a prospect. Gamel put up good minor league numbers after taking awhile to develop as a HS draftee picked in the 4th round. However, generational hitting talents don't ever last until the 4th round. Saying Gamel was the best offensive prospect through their system since Braun came up doesn't make them comparable - it just means the Brewers have been bad at drafting/developing offense. Hiura is compared to Braun as a hitter because both were largely considered having the best hit tool in their respective drafts - and Hiura has done nothing but reinforce that projection since. I remember some of your earlier posts poo-pooing Hiura due to a below exceptional two month stretch in AA last season immediately following a thumb/wrist injury, so I know where your head's at. Maybe you're too young to remember and jumped on the Brewer train after the team turned things around starting in 2005, but I'm almost certain Gamel ranked top 20 in the prospect rankings in BA and Prospectus which means he was more highly thought of by folks that actually scout baseball and are not message board, MILB box score following fans. And why does draft position matter when you rake? Also, Gamel's high rankings were in spite of his highly shaky glovework at 3rd. I guess the moral of the story is that there's no sense in bringing facts into a good argument when you're dealing with Brewer fans that historically tree hug their prospects. I hope I'm proven wrong but I remember a couple of guys holding the fort on Logan Shafer back in the day, too. Hiura is likely not a transformation prospect in the mold of Trout, that much i know for sure. We're in a win now window. Make the moves if they're there. Offense is not the issue. Disagree with virtually every point you just tried to make. Scouts rated Hiura THE BEST HITTER IN THE ENTIRE DRAFT. Why Logan shafer’s name is mentioned in comparison to Hiura silly. Stearns resisted trading Hiura this offseason and that was before his absolute devastation of AAA pitching. And our pitching is actually a strength right now and gonna get stronger with Anderson and Nelson back in the next couple weeks.
  10. This pitching staff is so underrated right now. Starting staff when Anderson back is really solid, better than last year’s starters. The pen with Guerra Albers jj Burnes Claudio Hader Williams Houser I think top to bottom as good as most of last years bullpen, with potential to get better when Nelson returns and starter arm to pen. When our offense clicks this team gonna win a lot of games.
  11. LOL. What did I miss? A poster used Guerra’s not so good peripheral stats to say Guerra was having a bad year and was in the bottom 20% of relief pitchers, and anybody that thought otherwise doesn’t know baseball.
  12. Not according to one or two posters, who think Guerra having a terrible year.
  13. My contention is this, baseball fans have a love affair with prospects. Brewers fans on this site lamented over the Brinson trade for Yellich ...Yellie was a proven talent. Huira is a hitting machine. A fantastic hitter in the minor leagues. Honestly, I want to be proven wrong and Keston comes up and hits the stuffing out of the ball. Sorry, but Hiura coming out of the draft universally regarded as the best hitter in the draft and is now exceeding those lofty projections. Brinson has power but nowhere close to the hitter Hiura is. NO COMPARISON.
  14. Good inning by Chacín. Maybe CC let him throw 118 pitches tonight if he dealin now.
