Thanks. I understand the sentiment however: if we're not going to pay him, why not trade him? Especially as he's done very well to boost his market value in the first half of this season... That said, I highly doubt that we'll trade the soul of the team. How can we justify that after already trading Hader and Burnes, while knowing we'll get a comp pick for simply letting him walk? (someone should please correct me if I'm wrong on the comp pick) We need starting pitching. We all know that. But I believe we've enough prospect capital to trade from, rather than giving up the soul of the team in the same season that we're trying to win a championship (hey Atlanta Hawks - you're finally in the East's top tier. How about trading Dominique Wilkins now and crushing fans' hearts?). I think the only question is whether we trade for a starting pitcher now OR wait until the deadline. And I'd imagine that we'll wait until the deadline, if only because we'll be afraid that the Big Time Acquisition will end up on the injured list like everyone else.

22-year old RHP Jacob Misiorowski may not yet be dominating as we dreamed (1.44 WHIP in 42.1 IP), but he’s got a 2.98 ERA and the 2nd-highest K-rate in the Southern League (31.3%). AA Biloxi can even their home series against Tennessee 1-1 with a victory tonight. Can Zavier Warren homer for a 3rd straight game? Ignore the positions on this lineup card.
-
RHP Taylor Clarke (2.95 ERA with 13 Ks in 18.1 AAA IP) starts again on 4 days’ rest, as Nashville needs a win to even their series in Gwinnett 1-1. UT Isaac Collins is out of the lineup after exiting early yesterday (about an inning after an HBP). C Francisco Mejia is 13-for-28 with 4 HR and 4 BB during his 7-game hit streak.

Good point on Childers not necessarily being demoted to High-A for performance reasons. Root and Yerlin give too many free passes. Costello has struggled with save opportunities. So Estevez is likely thrilled to have Childers.

- RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez’s contracted selected by MLB Brewers from AAA Nashville - RHP James Meeker (who’s with AAA Nashville) designated for assignment - OF Joey Wiemer of AAA Nashville placed on 7-day injured list - RHP Edwin Jimenez of High-A Wisconsin placed on full-season injured list -
That doubleheader double-comeback last week turned around AA Biloxi’s season and we all know it. The Shuckers are home this week against Cubs’ affiliate Tennessee. 24-year old RHP Shane Smith (3.74 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 12.8 K/9 in 33 2/3 IP) starts tonight. RF Noah Campbell has 8 hits, 3 walks and 7 RBIs in his last 18 PAs.

Garrett Mitchell collected 2 hits in his first rehab stint, while 17-year old Luis Pena is putting up RBI Baseball-type numbers in the DSL. Each Rookie League game was a back-and-forth affair in Monday action. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Transactions: OF Garrett Mitchell sent on rehab assignment to ACL Brewers Game Action: Final: ACL Cubs 17, ACL Brewers 16 (in 7 innings as scheduled) Box Score and Game Log You’ll rarely find a wilder box score than this topsy-turvy game which saw the Crew post two(!) separate 8-run innings, but ultimately blow an early lead of 8-2 and a final inning lead of 16-13 to fall to the Cubs. The great news is the return of center fielder Garrett Mitchell, who went 2-for-4 with a walk, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. In fact, all nine hitters reached base, with 12 hits, 10 walks and 1 HBP for the squad, which also went 9-for-14 with runners in scoring position. Getting ACL highlights on video is extremely rare, so we’re happy to share rehabbing DH Felix Valerio and Mitchell both singling in the 2nd inning, with Mitchell’s hit giving the Brewers a 3-2 lead at the time: Unfortunately, all 9 Cubs’ hitters also reached base, as they totalled 10 hits, 10 walks and 4 HBPs. With both pitching staffs scuffling mightily, the main differences in this game were the 3 errors for the Crew (vs. 0 for the Cubs) and the 4 stolen bases for the Cubs (vs. 0 for the Crew). The unavailability of 3B Eric Bitonti (out since leaving Friday’s game early) may also have been a factor in the final outcome. Looking at the positives, left fielder Antony Gomez went 3-for-3 with a double, walk and 3 RBIs; C Edgardo Ordonez went 2-for-4, including a homer, walk and 4 RBIs; 2B Josh Adamczewski reached base 4 times (double, 3 walks, 2 RBIs); and 1B Gery Holguin had 2 doubles and an RBI. Down 13-8 with two outs in the penultimate (6th) inning, Ordonez’s 2-run homer cut the deficit to 13-10, triggering a run of 8 straight Brewers reaching via double, single or walk, with Mitchell tying the game 13-13 on a 2-run single, Adamczewski’s double extending the lead to 15-13, then Holguin bringing one more player around with his double. Unfortunately, Holguin ended that frame by trying for 3rd base. RHP Dencer Geraldo had gotten the final out in the top of the 6th inning with the Crew trailing 13-8, so was tasked with closing out the final inning after his teammates’ barrage had grabbed the 16-13 advantage. Unfortunately, the 7th inning started with an error (Holguin), wild pitch and an infield single to put the pressure on. One strikeout, two walks and a single later and the lead was down to 16-15 with the bases loaded and one out. A potential game-ending ground ball double play to second base was instead thrown past first base by SS Tyler Rodriguez to allow 2 runs to score and cough up the lead. Despite all the lead-up drama, the Brewers went 3-up, 3-down in the final inning to fall to 12-16 on the season. It seems pertinent to also note that the temperature at game time was 102 degrees. As far as earlier pitching performances: Starting LHP Anthony Flores conceded 6 runs (4 earned) while striking out 7 in 3 innings LHP Osbriel Mogollon retired 2 of 8 batters, with the remaining 6 coming around as earned runs. In fact, 7 of the 8 batters reached against Mogollon (2 hits, 3 walks, 2 HBP), with a double play recording the two outs. RHP Isaiah Jackson only conceded 1 earned run in 2 innings of work, but when you walk 4 and throw 2 wild pitches it’s difficult to call it a good day. He opened with 2 walks, an HBP and 2 wild pitches before recording his first out. It was only RHP Samuel Valerio whose pitching line looked okay: 0.2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 Ks. He induced the potential (but botched) game-ending double play, so was cruelly charged with a blown save. See additional video from Arizona here, including another Mitchell base hit. Final: DSL Brewers Uno 8, DSL Padres Gold 6 Box Score and Game Log If you’re looking to the Dominican Summer League for sanity, you’d best think again. The Uno men (and boys) were cruising with a 5-0 lead entering the 8th inning before yielding a 6-spot to the Padres and having to craft a comeback of their own to emerge victorious. I don’t recall a Brewers DSL squad connecting on 4 home runs in one game…ever (research pending). The two DSL squads combined typically only average about 35 homers in total per season. As if to further emphasize this rarity, their competitors in this game collected 7 hits, all singles. So this was a remarkable display, with C Kevin Garcia connecting for 2 blasts, SS Luis Pena 1 homer and DH Yohandry Cruz yet another rocket, producing all of the team’s first 5 runs. Pena (2-for-3, HR, 2 walks, 3 RBIs; 1.401 small sample OPS) also stole 2 bases to bring his total to 11 through just 5 games, although he was also caught stealing for the first time. On the mound, 20-year old starting RHP Joshua Quezada (acquired from Yankees for Clayton Andrews) was dominant as he makes his case for a quick promotion stateside: 5 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 6 Ks. 17-year old RHP Lukas Gonzalez from Panama followed with an entertaining career debut: 2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 4 BB, 3 Ks – stranding the bases loaded in both innings. That set the stage for July 2023 signee 17-year old RHP Francisco Guevara’s career debut in the top of the 8th inning. Though his player profile is still showing him as being on the 7-day injured list, the Venezuelan also somehow faced 4 batters, retiring none (2 singles, 2 walks) before giving way to RHP Ranwell Smith. Smith (2 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 4 BB, 1 K) didn’t fare much better, allowing 4 of the first 5 batters he faced to reach base (single, 3 walks) to concede the lead 6-5. Catcher Garcia started Uno team’s rally by walking to lead off the bottom of the 8th inning, with left fielder Joan Gutierrez (2-for-4, SB, 2 runs) getting a key single and moving to 2nd base on the throw to third. With the bases loaded and 2 outs, 3B Jesus Made (1-for-3, 2 walks, RBI, SB) drew a game-tying walk before Pena came through yet again with a 2-run single to grab the lead back at 8-6. Smith allowed two aboard (walk, single) with one out in the final inning, before getting a strikeout and ground out to end it. Final: DSL Athletics 8, DSL Brewers Dos 5 Box Score and Game Log The Dos squad’s game was eerily similar to their Uno brethren, racing out to a 4-0 lead by the 4th inning then giving it away to trail 5-4 by the 7th inning. However, they were unable to mount a final turnaround. The team grabbed 3 runs in the 2nd inning and one more in the 4th inning, with highlights including a C Luis Corobo double, 3B Roderick Flores RBI single and DH Moises Polanco RBI single. The 4-0 lead may have been much greater if the team had not had a whopping 4(!) baserunners caught stealing in the first 4 innings. January 2024 signee 6’5”, 17-year old RHP Paul Hoff (4 2/3 IP, 4 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 1 WP, 3 Ks) from Germany got the start in his career debut, facing the minimum through his first 3 1/3 innings pitched, although assisted by two ground ball double plays. In fact, Hoff kept the Athletics (0 wins, 4 losses entering the game) hitless through 4 innings before conceding 4 singles amongst the first 5 batters of the 5th inning and giving way to RHP Yeferson Tales (1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 WP, 0 Ks) who threw a wild pitch and gave up a single to allow both inherited runners to score, tying the game 4-4. With the game still knotted 4-4, the Crew drew 2 walks to open the 7th inning but a ground ball double play helped fizzle that threat before 17-year old Jean (JC) Rodriguez (2 IP, 4 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 WP, 2 Ks) entered for his career debut. A double, wild pitch and sacrifice fly gave the Athletics a 5-4 lead, but 1B Frederi Montero’s 2-out RBI single in the top of the 8th inning tied it up again at 5-5. A 3-run homer by the A’s Kevin Dume with one out in the bottom of the 8th inning essentially put the game to rest. Three Dos hitters each struck out swinging in the top of the 9th inning to end it. Each of 2B Kevin Ereu and right fielder Pedro Tovar had 2 hits, but (sorry to be a downer) Ereu was caught stealing twice and both of Tovar’s hits were of the infield variety. For the week, Nashville, Biloxi and Wisconsin were each victorious in their series by a 4 games to 2 margin, while Carolina won its third game in a row to forge a 3-3 split. Transactions: RHP Fabian Reyes transferred from DSL Brewers-2 to DSL Brewers-1 Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 14, Louisville 3 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Sounds Blow Out Bats in Series Finale, Clinch Winning Homestand It took a few innings for RHP Chad Patrick (7 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 9 Ks) to find his groove, but the 25-year old was once again terrific in earning his 6th win of the 2024 campaign (season ERA 2.83). C Francisco Mejia’s (3-for-4, HR, walk, sac fly, 4 RBIs) hot streak at the plate continued with his 5th multi-hit game in his 7-game hitting streak, tying the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning on a poorly placed 0-2 curveball. Every hitter in the starting lineup collected at least one hit, with a whopping 7 Sounds having multiple in their 19-hit barrage in front of 6,101 joyful home fans. Of particular note, 2B Owen Miller and DH Eric Haase joined Mejia with 3-hit, 1-homer days, while right fielder Chavez Young collected 3 RBIs. Sounds’ Extras: We don’t have any injury reports on 1B Tyler Black (missed 3 games) or OF Joey Wiemer (missed 2 games), so hopefully they magically re-appear on the lineup card on Tuesday evening. Also, until we know more, it’s best to assume that OF Isaac Collins was given a rest day. Credit INF Yonny Hernandez, playing left field in this game with a solid all-around game: 2 singles, a sacrifice fly and he collected an outfield assist. Perhaps forgotten on the Brewers’ 40-man roster, each of RHP Janson Junk (1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K – topped at 94mph), SS Vinny Capra (2-for-6, 2 RBIs, SB) and center fielder Chris Roller (2-for-4, double, walk, SB, 3 runs scored) demonstrated their continued value. Next week’s outlook: Nashville will take the 4-hour drive southeast to take on Braves’ affiliate Gwinnett, with LHP Aaron Ashby ready to build on his last two encouraging outings (combined 12 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 8 walks, 8 Ks). Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 8, Montgomery 2 Box Score and Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Henderson, Campbell Star in Shuckers' Series-Clinching Win Against Biscuits Since last year, we’ve been looking forward to RHP Logan Henderson’s rapid progression up two levels and he did NOT disappoint in his AA debut at first place Montgomery. Handed a 4-0 lead before throwing his first pitch, Henderson was content to pound the zone (65 pitches, 49 strikes) over 5 efficient shutout innings, throwing at least 94mph: 5 IP, 0 R, 4 H (all singles), 1 BB, 3 Ks. Right fielder Noah Campbell (3-for-4, HR, double, HBP, 4 RBIs) continues to lead the team’s resurgent offense, driving in 3 runs in the first inning and only needing a triple to complete the cycle. Shuckers’ Extras: Statement-making RHP Craig Yoho (2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 4 Ks) has gone from K’ing 37 of 77 batters faced in High-A (48%) to 13 of 22 hitters faced in AA ball (59%). Maybe Rick Sweet and AAA Nashville should test Yoho’s mettle very soon. Eight of the Shuckers’ nine position players reached base via walk or hit, including 3B Mike Boeve and C Andy Yerzy both reaching 3 times (2 singles, 1 walk). Will the relatively sparsely-playing Yerzy be Henderson’s personal catcher going forward? Be sure to check out Biloxi’s Twitter feed for more highlights, including left fielder Zavier Warren’s second homer of 2024. Next week’s outlook: Biloxi returns home to get revenge on Cubs’ affiliate Tennessee, who took 4 of 6 games against the Shuckers in early May. 24-year old RHP Shane Smith (3.74 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 12.8 K/9 in 33 2/3 IP) is expected to start the first game of the series. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 6, Quad Cities 5 Box Score and Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, game details: Cardiac Rattlers Score Four in Ninth to Beat Quad Cities We're once again privileged to have comprehensive video highlights from the Wisconsin media team: We’ve also got a 26-minute post-game podcast from Mehring and Lobner, featuring comments from Manager Victor Estevez, along with Tayden Hall, Brian Fitzpatrick and Luke Adams. As you undoubtedly surmised from the game link and video highlights, this was basically two games in one: a taut 2-1 contest through 8 innings, followed by a chaotic 8-run final frame to the delight of 4,003 home fans. The lefty Fitzpatrick threw 56 pitches (3 shutout innings) in Tuesday’s game, but that didn’t stop him from recording career highs of 88 pitches and 6 shutout(!) innings as Manager Estevez went for the series win. Offensively, it was 2B Dylan O’Rae’s show early (e.g. 2 singles, an RBI and his 30th stolen base of 2024 in the first 3 innings) and late: RBI single in the bottom of the 9th inning to cut the deficit to 5-3, then scored the game-winning run on Hall’s walk-off sacrifice fly. Timber Rattlers’ Extras: Recently-promoted RHP Bayden Root conceded 4 runs in this game and 3 runs in his last outing as he struggles to stake his claim to the closer role. RHP Yerlin Rodriguez was rather solid in this game (2 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks), but a wild pitch knotted the game 1-1 in the top of the 8th inning. Might we see RHP Chase Costello get more high leverage opportunities going forward? Along with three hits from O’Rae and two from Hall, 3B Adams reached base five times (single, 4 walks) and SS Jadher Areinamo had 2 singles and a walk. It’s truly a team game: left fielder Jheremy Vargas’ outfield assist to stop the bleeding (down 5-2 at the time) in the top of the 9th inning may well have been a key difference-maker in the game’s final outcome. Next week’s outlook: A boat-ride might be shorter, but I’m sure Wisconsin will take the 5.5-hour bus ride to Comstock, Michigan to battle Tigers’ affiliate West Michigan. LHP Mark Manfredi is scheduled to start the opening game on Tuesday. Final: Carolina 6, Charleston 3 Box Score and Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details: Mudcats Down RiverDogs, Split Series Manager Nick Stanley’s troops responded incredibly well to dropping 3 straight games in Charleston to start the week, reeling off 3 consecutive wins to close out the week with a 5-game advantage over Lynchburg in the Carolina League North division. Three first inning doubles from 2B Filippo Di Turi (2-for-3, double, walk, 2 runs), center fielder Yophery Rodriguez (2-for-3, triple, double, 3 RBIs, 2 runs) and left fielder Yhoswar Garcia gave RHP Josh Timmerman an early 2-0 lead, though the RiverDogs immediately responded with 2 runs on 2 hits of their own. To his credit, Timmerman bounced back to notch his longest career outing: 5 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 1 WP, 4 Ks, ultimately earning the Win, as Di Turi (leadoff single) and Rodriguez (RBI triple) came through again in the 6th inning to give Carolina a 3-2 lead. SS Cooper Pratt and DH Luis Castillo followed with singles in the same frame to help push the advantage to 5-2. Mudcats’ Extras: RHP Brailin Rodriguez put in a particularly solid shift, covering 3 scoreless innings to raise a few eyebrows in the BrewerFanatic Minor League Forum: 3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks – 40 pitches, 26 strikes. He’s still just 21 years old despite losing the 2022 season due to injury and struggling to rediscover his form in 2023. Handed the ball and a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the 9th inning, RHP Jeison Pena was unfortunately unable to take the queue from Brailin (throw strikes!), allowing 4 of 5 batters to reach base (2 BB, 1 HBP, 1 infield single, 1 K), so RHP Cristopher Carrasco had to enter with the bases loaded and 1 out while clinging to a 6-3 lead in front of 5,416 boisterous road fans. For the second time in three games, Carrasco was cool under pressure to collect the save, getting a swinging strikeout and then a fly out to preserve the Mudcats’ victory. Next week’s outlook: Carolina hosts Nationals’ affiliate Fredericksburg this week, with 18-year old RHP Manuel Rodriguz (3.66 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 7.9 K/9 in 46 2/3 IP) most likely to get the ball in Game One. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. Monday will see three Rookie-level affiliates in action, starting with our Dominican Summer League squads at 10:00am CST (DSL Uno hosts DSL Padres Gold, DSL Dos plays at DSL Athletics), then the ACL Brewers hosting the ACL Cubs at 8:00pm. In between, catch the Milwaukee Brewers hosting the Blue Jays at 7:10pm. Logan Henderson threw five shutout innings in a victorious AA debut. Dylan O’Rae stole his 30th base in Wisconsin’s comeback. Yophery Rodriguez and Chad Patrick keyed wins for Carolina and Nashville. Sun. 7/9: Just a Four Pack This Time, Daniel!
Ro Mueller replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
A 3rd straight win for the Low-A Mudcats at Charleston tonight would enable them to split the series 3-3. Starting RHP Josh Timmerman (4.45 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, 11.1 K/9 in 32.1 IP) has been getting Ks but also allowing too many hits and runs. DH/OF Luis Castillo may be hitting .196, but he’s 4th in the 12-team Carolina League in homers, 6th in RBIs. -

Impressive 6th inning from Fitz: K swinging, K swinging, pop out to first. He’s surely done at 88 pitches (52 strikes) of shutout ball. C’mon T-Rats’ offense. 1-0 is too close! -

Rather surprised to see Wisconsin’s LHP Brian Fitzpatrick remain in the game after reaching a career-high 74 pitches thru 5 innings. With an off-day tomorrow. Throwing on 4 days’ rest (56 pitches on Tuesday). Safe to say Manager Estevez wants this series win. Timber Rattlers lead a tight game 1-0.
