  1. Thank you for this. There are soooo many players to watch. I’d bet that at least one of Tyler Woessner, Alexander Cornielle or Edwin Jimenez makes a terrific mark at AA Biloxi this year. Then I’m also praying for a bounce back year for Kevin Briceno and/or Brailin Rodriguez (in addition to Knarr and Seminaris whom you mentioned) after dealing with injuries. Then there are the recent draft picks like Ryan Birchard and Mark Manfredi. And what about 18-year old Manuel Rodriguez? The club has appeared relatively high on him in the past. Let’s see some breakouts!!
  2. My understanding is that drops us to 34 players in Big League camp, so there are 8 more moves to go. I believe that Arroyo is the only NRI player remaining. So if he gets re-assigned and Devin is put on the injured list, we’ll still need to act on 6 other players - e.g. option, injured list or DFA. I still think the biggest question we face is whether to roster Miley or shelve him for the first 15 days of the season. He’s scheduled to start this Thursday.
  3. - Signed 17-year old RHP Miqueas Mercedes from the Dominican Republic
  4. INFs Gregory Barrios and Daniel Guilarte continue to be flip-flopped versus conventional expectation. This is the first time I'm seeing 22-year old undrafted RHP Harrison Durow (signed July 31, 2023) listed in any game.
  5. I think that this is the first sign we've had 21-year old RHP Kevin Briceno is healthy in at least a year. Principally a starting pitcher, he missed the 2023 season after terrific results in the DSL in 2021-2022 and a 6-game stint in the Arizona Complex League in July/August 2022.
  6. The colors aren't consistent from day to day, but red is generally lefties, black is generally righties, blue is generally switch hitters. Except for the first day, when green was switch hitters. And today, Noah Campbell is in green when he should be in red. And the whole "AAA" lineup today is in blue, which is not correct. So it's spring training for media personnel as well, though we're grateful for the effort to disclose information to us.
  7. We've enough optionable players that we shouldn't need to trade Haase until the right deal opens up. And that right deal may likely depend on another team's #1 or clear #2 catcher going on the 60-day injured list. Also, until Brian Navarreto is clearly healthy in AAA, an immediate trade of Haase risks Quero being the "next man up", which I'm not certain is the organization's preference. So there's probably no rush to DFA or trade Haase, as we watch for Sanchez and Navarreto to get back to peak catching shape.
  8. Lost 4-3 on a walk-off wild pitch (swinging strike) that could have just as easily been called a passed ball on Wood. Yeager had come in to pitch after Knoth got up to 19 pitches in the frame. Cool to see our future stars playing together. Let’s do it again next year.
  9. “Left oblique tenderness”. The announcers sounded relieved, since it’s not an arm injury.
  10. Since the original Spring Breakout roster announcement on March 7, the team has added RHPs Ryan Middendorf, Blake Holub and RHP Brett Wichrowski, along with C Matt Wood. Also, LHP Robert Gasser was removed. This looks like our second sign that the club is more excited about 21-year old Wichrowski than originally expected.
  11. If all three catchers remain healthy, we may end up trading Haase like we did Kratz a few years ago, this time for a slightly better prospect
  12. Yay! I thought we’d have to wait until Tuesday to see the lineups start to get posted. Where have you gone Felix Valerio? This fan turns his lonely eyes but doesn’t see you…
  13. Agreed, but the Manager announced Brice as the Opening Day second baseman, which I’m maybe taking too literally!
  14. INF Freddy Zamora made his first known appearance of the spring in Tuesday’s Brewers game, which is great(!) but it also muddies the AAA roster waters a bit. But it always works itself out. Let’s see…projected starts per week: - C: Quero 4, Clarke 2 - 1B Black: 4, Clarke 1, Miller 1 - 2B: Miller 3, Dunn 2, Collins 1 - 3B: Dunn 3, Black 2, Capra 1 - SS: Capra 3, Zamora 3 - OF: Wiemer 4, Perkins 3, Roller 3, Hicklen 3, Campbell 3, Collins 2 DH: Clarke 2, Wiemer 1, Perkins 1, Roller 1, Quero 1 Okay, no, this doesn’t work. And I didn’t even count Arroyo or Hernandez. 2-3 players will be put on the shelf, DFA’d, injured, take an early opt out or be sent to AA.
  15. Facing lefty Quintana on Opening Day: - LF Yelich - C Contreras - SS Adames - 1B Hoskins - RF Frelick - DH Sanchez - CF Chourio - 2B Turang - 3B Monasterio - Bench: Haase, Bauers, Ortiz, Mitchell - SP: Peralta, Junis, Rea, Hall - RP: Payamps, Milner, Uribe, Megill, Peguero, Vieira, Hudson - LR: Wilson, Ross IL: Williams, Miley, Woodruff Option: Quero, Miller, Dunn, Capra, Wiemer, Perkins, Roller, Ashby, Junk, Blalock, Bukauskas, Clarke
  16. This seems relatively significant. Ideally, we’d put Miley on the Injured List NOW and activate him a few days into the season, but I don’t think 15-day IL placements are allowed until Opening Day. So if we think Miley will be effective a few days into the season, it’s easier to just roster him from the start. He could pair up with Junis for the first two weeks, for instance.
  17. Your Hudson case is growing: 38 pitches over 3 solid innings last night.
  18. Thank you for this. Love the player-focused articles with technical details which tell us what level these guys are really working at. Junk and Myers both flashed some decent velocity in late season bullpen work last year, but I suspect they’ll both commence the year as long innings guys in Nashville.
  19. He got a $4 million buy-out, so it was really an $8 million option decision. That said, I've no idea if we could get him for $8 million OR if we'd be willing to pay it.
  20. The glory of small sample spring training K rates (% of PAs): Wiemer 33.3%, Dunn 28.6%, Perkins 28.6%, Chourio 27.3%, Black 26.3%, Mitchell 23.5%, Miller 16.7%, Turang 13.3%, Haase 0.0%. :)
  21. As far as potential early health concerns, I’m guessing LHP Darrell Thompson, INF Freddy Zamora and C Brian Navarreto are each dealing with something, given their absence in being called to MLB spring training games. We know Navarreto’s winter league season ended early due to a hand injury that he tried to suffer through for a few games. No idea about Thompson and Zamora. RHPs Easton McGee and Coleman Crow each had Tommy John surgery (May and August 2023, respectively), so I don’t expect to see McGee until late this season and Crow until (maybe) winter ball.
  22. - RHP Roman Perez released by DSL Brewers-1 The 23-year old was signed in May 2022 from the Dominican Republic, producing an identical 6.45 ERA, 10.9 K/9 rate and 22.1 IP in each of his 2022 and 2023 seasons in the DSL to go with an average 1.88 WHIP. He also converted 9 of 12 save opportunities over the 2 years. We wish Roman success in his upcoming endeavors.
  23. I’m not sure Hudson has enough different pitches to shift to starting, but it IS odd to see any reliever face 9 batters this early in spring. He hasn’t thrown more than 48 pitches in any major or minor league game since early 2019. I’ll content myself with being happy we have a material upgrade over Small, Claudio and Andrews. He attributed last year’s success in part to an improved slider.
