    Quero vs. Contreras will hopefully be an excellent problem to have -> essentially the best catching tandem in the league from 2025-203X, with each also getting plenty of time at DH if they're hitting well. And if Quero's not hitting well, that wouldn't actually hurt us given how inexpensive he is.

    On Friday, RHP Christian Mejias got in a little work: 1.2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K - in Aragua’s 8-4 loss to Caracas. C Brian Navarreto is presumably state-side now to attend to his hand injury. Back in Puerto Rico, his Carolina team lost 4-1 to Caguas, so now trail the best-of-9 series 4 games to 2. Manager Victor Estevez thanked Escogido club for the opportunity to manage the team which has existed since 1921:

    I really appreciate the analysis! Hopefully CF-Rod adjusts well to AAA ball in 2024 to set himself up to join the MLB rotation at some point in 2025. Marco Estrada produced over 11 WAR and made over $50 million in his career, so it would be quite respectable if Carlos F. Rodriguez achieves something along those lines. His youth means he could even have more solid MLB years than Estrada did, but let's get through 2024 first. Go Carlos!!

    From Thursday: Manager Victor Estevez's Escogido squad mustered only 4 singles and 1 walk in their 4-0 loss to Estrellas Orientales, falling short of their quest to reach the Dominican Championship Series. Better luck next winter RHP Christian Mejias' Aragua team defeated La Guaira 3-0, but were mathematically eliminated from reaching the Venezuelan Champion Series due to Lara's win elsewhere

    Rough Wednesday results: - RHP Christian Mejias - 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 Ks - in Aragua’s 4-2 loss to Caracas - Manager Victor Estevez’s Escogido team lost 4-3 to Cibao - C Brian Navarreto’s Carolina club lost Game 5 of their series 3-2 to Caguas

    Here's an article on catcher Brian Navarreto being absent on the field (due to a hand injury), but still making his presence felt from the dugout for Carolina in the Puerto Rico Championship Series. (English version using Google Translate) It mentions that Navarreto played with the injury for about 10 days before stopping and that the Brewers are recalling him today. As to game action, his Carolina teammates defeated Caguas 10-4 on Tuesday to even the best-of-9 series at 2 games apiece. Elsewhere, Manager Victor Estevez's Escogido Lions got a big 8-1 win over the Licey Tigers in the Dominican Republic. The two teams are now tied for second place with just 2 games remaining. I'm assuming that Escogido holds the tiebreaker (4-2 record vs. Licey in this Round Robin phase) so can clinch a berth in the championship series by winning out.

    I'm not surprised that we've kept our foot on the pedal in terms of the quality (3 highly-ranked studs) and size (35 players) of the international class. However, if MLB is really going to implement reduced aggregate MILB rosters this year, it likely means we'll see a LOT of cuts across MILB in early June. It also means the days of the vast majority of Brewers' DSL players getting two seasons to show their stuff may be behind us. I actually think that this constitutes a business opportunity (e.g. sign 120 available young players dirt-cheap every June, develop them in a new league for 2 years, then sell the best back to affiliated baseball), but I don't have the time or money to pursue it.

    Each of Junk, Patrick and Myers has a case to start or be in the ‘pen. With McGee perhaps still recovering from TJ surgery, I assume we’ll keep most of them stretched out. I also think it’s likely that one of Perkins, Wiemer or Mitchell starts the season in AAA, which only adds to the AAA OF glut. As usual, a few players will likely be stashed in April-May: Development List, injured list, ACL roster, temporarily inactive, etc.

    Summary of Sunday Action: RHP Christian Mejias - 2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 Ks - in Aragua's 3-2 loss to Margarita, which dropped Aragua to a 3-8 record in Round Robin play with 5 games remaining in Venezuela C Brian Navarrato was absent again, as Carolina fell 4-2 to Caguas. They now trail the best-of-9 championship series 2 games to 1 in Puerto Rico Manager Victor Estevez's Escogido Lions got a key win, 8-5 over the Licey Tigers. They now trail Licey by 1 game for second place (and a berth in the championship series), with 3 games remaining in the Dominican Republic

    On Saturday, C Brian Navarreto was absent again (right hand issue), as Carolina dropped Game 2 against Caguas, 13-4, levelling the best-of-9 championship series in Puerto Rico. Checking in on Manager Victor Estevez's Escogido squad in the Dominican Republic, they grabbed a 7-6 win over Cibao to improve to a 6-8 record in round robin play. They're 2 games behind 2nd place Licey with 4 games remaining, with a big match-up against Licey on Sunday.

    C Brian Navarreto is out nursing an injury to his right hand, but his Carolina teammates came through with a 3-2 victory over Caguas in 11 innings to take Game 1 of the Puerto Rico championship series. Elsewhere, RHP Christian Mejias couldn’t help Aragua from falling to a 3-6 record in Venezuelan round robin play: 0.2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 Ks - in their 9-6 loss to Lara.
