  1. Now Carlos Carra answers with a pickoff (after an HBP to the first batter he faced) in a scoreless frame. Gery Holguin starts the bottom of the 7th with a single, followed by a DH Tyler Black walk (3rd time reaching base today - send him to Nashville). Shoot: Quero pop-out (0-for-4), Anderson fly out (0-for-4) and Montero ground out (1-for-4) yield nothing. On to the 8th, still trailing 5-4.
  2. RHP Joshua Quezada dominated over 2 innings (4 Ks, 1 BB), but he now hands over to RHP Carlos Carra. Two ACL Brewers have been picked off (Ereu, Fielder), which doesn’t help the cause. We trail 5-4 in the 7th inning.
  3. Ugh. Ryan Birchard obviously ran out of gas at 70 pitches. He starts the 6th with a 4-pitch walk, gets a line out, sac fly (after 2 SBs) and a 7-pitch walk. Exits down 2-1 after 89 pitches thrown. It’s time for the Yerlin Rodriguez Magic 8 Ball Experience, with 1-on, 2-out.
  4. And CF Eduardo Garcia singles, steals second and scores on a ground ball in the bottom of the 4th. Wisconsin 1, Beloit 1.
  5. On cue, the ACL Brewers put up a 4-spot in the 5th inning, LF Jadyn Fielder’s leadoff single started the rally, with 2B Roderick Flores and Frederi Montero doubling and Tyler Black tripling. Runners were stranded at 2nd and 3rd (Kevin Ereu fly out to second baseman). ACL Brewers trail ACL Royals 5-4.
  6. Gonna need some rallies. Wisconsin trails 1-0 in the 4th inning. ACL Brewers are down 5-0 in the 5th inning. Griffin Tobias threw 4 innings (5 R, 6 H), with Joshua Quezada relieving. Ryan Birchard is still going strong for Wisconsin. A Hedbert Perez double went for naught in the 3rd inning.
  7. High-A Wisconsin can take a 3-2 home series lead over Beloit with a victory behind RHP Ryan Birchard (3.70 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 10.4 K/9 in 24.1 IP) this afternoon. DH Blake Burke has a 20-game on-base streak.
  8. I was hoping we’d slide Turang over to short against righties and let Collins play some infield, but I guess those ideas don’t work.
  9. INF Buddy Kennedy of Lehigh Valley is on a tear at the moment, probably has an opt out and I don’t think the Phillies have an MLB spot for him - 13-game hitting streak, 3-game homer streak. Could he be our 3rd baseman? Make that 4 straight games with a homer.
  10. I’m not that upset with Arnold, given how well we’ve done for years and the pipeline of talent we still having coming up. The core 2025 mistake seems to have been made in early 2024 actually: essentially swapping Adames for Woodruff, instead of spending that money on someone else. We only had one major salary move in us and it hasn’t worked out. He was right to grab Quintana with our last little bullet, similar to grabbing Gary Sanchez in early 2024. The Priester move actually added MLB talent for 2025 without sacrificing MLB talent this year, so I won’t complain. Hoskins and Bauers are doing much better than I expected this year. Even Megill is doing better than I expected. The rule 5 gaffe burns, but we also didn’t expect SS to contribute at the MLB level in 2025. Now the big decisions are the Misiorowski promotion and finding that infield hitter we’ve still not added.
  11. - RHP Elvis Peguero optioned to AAA Nashville from MLB Brewers
  12. 3 wins, 3 losses and 3 catchers exiting early (Seigler, Ramon Rodriguez, Corobo). Glad Wisconsin got 2 much-needed wins and the ACL Crew pulled it out. The MILB box scores suggest our teams all really battle to the end. Can't say the same for that MLB box score. Hope Brewers somehow find their mojo and our MILB catchers all recover quickly.
  13. Bruce Zimmermann obviously ran out of gas at 76 pitches, giving up hard hit balls to the next 4 hitters (including a 2-run homer for Luken Baker). Sounds trail 7-1 thru 5 innings.
  14. After winning the first game of today’s doubleheader, High-A Wisconsin hands the ball to 20-year old LHP Anthony Flores (6.65 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 9.6 K/9 in 21.2 IP) for Game 2. LF Luiyin Alastre and C Blayberg Diaz also enter the lineup, as Hall and Guilarte take a breather.
  15. Isn’t there a universal rule against losing 2 catchers on the same day? C’mon. David Garcia is already out. I guess we’ve got Quero coming up to AA or AAA. And I guess we could promote Dinges to High-A and Matt Wood to AA. We’ll see.
  16. Sitting 4 big bats initially (Anderson, Ortuno, K. Garcia, Fielder) against a 6-3 Dodgers team. Hmmm. Hope Mercado has a solid outing. Glad to “see” Black in the outfield.
  17. Ugh. Bruce Zimmermann retired the first 4 batters (3 via K), but Luken Baker homered and Memphis added 4 more runs and hits. Then Anthony Seigler doubled and had to be replaced on the bases by Zamora in the 3rd inning due to injury. Shoot.
  18. The AAA Sounds can clinch a 4-0 series victory tonight at Memphis behind LHP Bruce Zimmermann (4.35 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 6.7 K/9 in 31.0 IP). Anthony Seigler, with 312 career MILB starts at catcher or 2nd base, gets his first-ever start at 3rd base and LF Eddie Rosario (.948 OPS in 69 PAs in the PCL) makes his organizational debut.
  19. Jaron DeBerry only needed 21 pitches (15 strikes) to get thru the first 2 frames (2 Ks, a bloop single, GIDP). Now Walling and Nadal have walked to lead off the bottom of the 2nd inning. Mudcats still looking for their first hit though.
  20. AA Biloxi hands the ball to RHP Brett Wichrowski (1.29 ERA, 5 Ks in 7 IP) for his 3rd start of 2025, leading 2-1 in their series at Montgomery. Shuckers’ players hold 4 of the top 5 Southern League spots in runs (Adams, Wilken, Lara, Pratt) and RBIs (Warren, Adams, Pratt, Wilken).
  21. The Low-A Mudcats can clinch a 4-0 home series win over Fayetteville, but likely have to do it without Adamczewski (out past 2 weeks), Payne (exited early yesterday) and Made (rest day?). RHP Jaron DeBerry (2024 third round pick - 1.93 ERA, 8 Ks in 4.2 IP) makes his 3rd start. 3B Filippo Di Turi’s up to 5 homers with a .816 OPS.
  22. High-A Wisconsin hosts Beloit in a doubleheader today, trailing 2-0 in this week’s series. Solid RHP Tyson Hardin (1.42 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 9.7 K/9 in 31.2 IP) gets the start in Game One. For what it’s worth (nada? rien?), I think this is Manager Estevez’s preferred infield defensive alignment. 1B Blake Burke’s hit streak is 11 games.
  23. 14 ACL bats seems adequate to me, with only Jose Anderson likely to get a promotion (in my opinion). Biloxi and Wisconsin are lean, but the additions of Dalbec, Rosario, Quero and Black can push a player down to AA, while Dinges and Adamczewski look forward to the High-A move. I’ve been much more worried about pitchers (e.g. Manuel Rodriguez getting hurt during his 2nd start of a week), so hope we add some independent ball arms soon. This year, it seems we’re letting more guys throw 90+ pitches, but hopefully now opting to limit the Tuesday-Sunday same series starts.
  24. Josh Adamczewski and Marco Dinges would be the most likely to be promoted before then, in my opinion. The promotion schedule for the truly young guys (Made, Pena, Payne) more likely follows that of Chourio, Lara and Yophery, who were promoted to High-A on July 25, August 14 and September 15 in their respective years. Di Turi and Bitonti are tweeners age-wise that I’d expect to remain in Low-A unless there are personnel losses in High-A.
  25. Jacob Misiorowski, Mike Boeve, Melvin Hernandez and Filippo Di Turi all had big days in 4 wins for Nashville, Biloxi and Carolina (doubleheader), with Jose Anderson powering the ACL Brewers to victory as well. Tyler Black also started his rehab and Jeferson Quero homered in further good news, while Wisconsin was rained out. Check out Fangraphs’ updated Top 45 Brewers’ Prospect Rankings for a reminder of how incredibly deep and talented the Brewers' farm system is. Transactions: RHP Tanner Gillis promoted to High-A Wisconsin from Low-A Carolina RHP Jose Nova promoted to High-A Wisconsin from ACL Brewers RHP Tanner Shears activated from High-A Wisconsin’s 7-day injured list INF/OF Tyler Black sent on rehab assignment to ACL Brewers RHP Chandler Welch assigned to Low-A Carolina from High-A Wisconsin INF Ethan Murray placed on AA Biloxi’s 7-day injured list LHP Caden Vire placed on Low-A Carolina’s 7-day injured list Game Action: Final: Nashville 3, Memphis 1 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Misiorowski Dominant Again, Sounds Win Fourth Straight The Brewers may have been idle Thursday, but they were still the talk of the baseball world as RHP Jacob Misiorowski did things unseen at any level of baseball since velocity readings became the norm: After yet another dominant showing of control and heat by Misiorowski (7 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 5 Ks), BrewerFanatic’s Matthew Trueblood makes the case that these 103mph pitches should be landing in the gloves of Contreras and Haase henceforth. Of course, you don’t win games and take a 3-0 series lead on pitching alone, so 2B Anthony Seigler provided Nashville’s first run to tie the game in the 5th inning (6th homer, .936 OPS in his first season in AAA). It was still 1-1 in the top of the 9th inning, after RHP Craig Yoho escaped 2 singles and an HBP in the 8th, setting the stage for Wes Clarke, Adam Hall and Jimmy Herron to deliver three singles and a win: Sounds’ Extras: SS Freddy Zamora (.298 AVG, 2-for-3 in this game) has been holding his own this season and can expect even more playing time after Vinny Capra was claimed by the White Sox. Recent signee OF/INF Bobby Dalbec is still shaking off rust, now 0-for-13 since joining the Sounds. Friday’s outlook: LHP Bruce Zimmermann’s reward for 4 innings of scoreless relief on Sunday is a chance to make his 4th start of 2025, with the Sounds looking to clinch a road series victory. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 9, Montgomery 3 Box Score and Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Boeve's 4-RBI Night Leads Shuckers to League-Leading 22nd Win Adding Mike Boeve (working his way back after an injury) to the best offense in the Southern League may seem unfair to opponents, especially since he’s now contributing to the homer brigade: Boeve’s 3-run homer was his first since August 2024 and gave the Shuckers a 3-1 lead in support of starting RHP Alexander Cornielle (3 R, 3 H, 6 BB, 5 Ks), who had to battle control issues to get through 4 2/3 innings and 94 pitches (53 strikes). With the game still tight at 3-2 in the top of the 5th inning, a 1B Luke Adams (1-for-3, double, 2 walks) leadoff walk help trigger another 3-run frame, with Boeve (2-for-4, HR, 4 RBIs) and Cooper Pratt (2-for-5, RBI) contributing singles. 2B Zavier Warren keeps swinging with confidence, adding a 2-run shot in the 7th inning: Shuckers’ Extras: RHP Chase Costello only threw 2 pitches, but that was enough to strand 2 baserunners for Cornielle. That triggered a run of 4 1/3 scoreless, hitless innings from the bullpen, with RHP Will Childers covering 2 innings and recording 4 strikeouts. The hottest hitter in Minor League Baseball (3B Brock Wilken) only managed a single and a walk (only?) in this victory, but Baseball America put him in a feature article to keep him top of mind. C Darrien Miller and OF Bladimir Restituyo also had decent offensive production in the win, combining on a 3-for-6 evening with 2 walks and a stolen base. Friday’s outlook: RHP Brett Wichrowski is scheduled to make his 3rd start of 2025, having delivered 4 innings and 55 pitches last week. Biloxi can claim a 3-1 series advantage with another road victory. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Rained Out: Beloit at Wisconsin Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, rainout details: Rattlers/Sky Carp Postponed on Thursday Night Hopefully the unscheduled day off will help Wisconsin re-group and re-load after falling behind 2 games to zero in their home series against Beloit. Friday’s outlook: RHP Tyson Hardin (1.42 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 9.7 K/9 in 31 2/3 IP) and LHP Anthony Flores (6.65 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 9.6 K/9 in 21 2/3 IP) are expected to start the Timber Rattlers’ doubleheader, with the club needing to win both games to knot up this week’s series. Game One Final: Carolina 4, Fayetteville 2 (in 7 innings) Box Score and Game Log Game Two Final: Carolina 10, Fayetteville 3 (in 7 innings) Box Score and Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details: Mudcats Sweep Doubleheader From Fayetteville Down to 14 active pitchers (3 of whom recently threw multiple innings) and facing 5 games in 4 days, starting RHP Melvin Hernandez (7 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 0 BB, 8 Ks) understood the mission: Save the Staff and Win the Game. And boy did the 18-year old come through! The second youngest pitcher in the Carolina League delivered a 94-pitch complete game, peppering the zone for 3 innings (40 pitches, 31 strikes), escaping a difficult 4th frame aided by 2 outs on the bases, then bearing down to only allow 2 harmless singles over the final 3 frames. 3B Jesus Made and OF Luis Lameda provided the key hits in that opening-game win, combining on a 4-for-5 game with a double, walk, 3 RBIs and 2 stolen bases: 2B/3B Filippo Di Turi also contributed 2 hits in the first game, before getting the party started in the night cap with his 5th homer of 2025 as part of a 5-for-6, 2 RBI day for him: In his 7th appearance of 2025, starting RHP Bryan Rivera came through with his best outing of year, delivering 5 innings of 1-run, 1-hit baseball with 5 strikeouts (and 3 BB). The game was 4-1 in the 5th inning when Carolina opened the floodgates with a 6-run frame, including RBI doubles from OF Reece Walling and C Eric Martinez (first action in 2 weeks): Mudcats’ Extras: The sweep gives the Mudcats a 3-0 series lead, but we need to watch the health status of OF Braylon Payne, who exited the second game after stealing 2 bases and scoring in the 3rd inning. In that second contest, every spot in the Mudcats’ lineup reached base via walk or hit, with the somewhat surprising exception of Made, who still contributed an RBI. LHP Anfernny Reyes set aside last week’s nightmare relief outing and a leadoff double in the 7th inning to retire the final three hitters on a sacrifice fly and 2 ground outs. Friday’s outlook: RHP Jaron DeBerry is set for his 3rd start of 2025, with Carolina positioned to clinch yet another series win. Will we see the return of 2B Josh Adamczewski (last played May 2nd) to the lineup? Final: ACL Brewers 6, ACL Cubs 5 (in 10 innings) Box Score and Game Log The old adage that we can throw out win-loss records for rivalry games held true here, as the winless Cubs pushed the first place ACL Brewers to extra innings, before the superior team prevailed. Rehabbing 1B Tyler Black (1-for-3, run) and C Jeferson Quero (1-for-2, HR, walk, RBI) may have been atop the lineup (before exiting after 5 innings), but the teenagers carried the heavy load yet again to push the team’s record to 8-2 with this extra inning victory. 18-year old RHP Tyler Renz made his first start (2nd appearance) in the Brewers’ system, limiting the opposition to 2 runs over 5 innings, with 4 strikeouts, supported by Quero’s first inning homer, DH Luis Corobo’s (3-for-5) 2nd inning leadoff double and OF Jose Anderson’s 2-out, 2-run single in the 5th inning. 19-year old RHP Wenderlyn King (4 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 4 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 3 Ks) retired 8 of the first 9 batters he faced, before conceding 2 eighth inning runs on 3 consecutive singles to knot the contest at 4-4. The game looked lost after a Cubs’ leadoff triple against King in the bottom of the 9th inning, which followed the Brewers loading the bases with nobody out in the top half yet coming up empty (3 straight Ks). However, King and the defense rallied with a strikeout and ground ball double play to send the contest to extras. Anderson (3-for-5, triple, 3 RBIs) then came through again with a leadoff RBI triple, before adding an important insurance run on an error. RHP Daurys Mora earned the save despite allowing a run-scoring double with 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th, getting his 2nd strikeout of the inning on the final batter. Friday’s outlook: The ACL Brewers play at the ACL Dodgers (6-3) at 8:00pm CST, with the Dodgers likely seeking revenge after being pummeled 15-2 on Tuesday. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. On Friday, Wisconsin kicks off a six-game Minor League set with Game One of their doubleheader commencing at 5:10pm CST. The Milwaukee Brewers also return to action, hosting the Twins at 7:10pm.
