  1. watching the Cubs....Garza doesn't look impressive to me at all.
  2. Cool. Well I'm switching to the Cubs game. Hope to see something positive today -- like a Garza loss.
  3. Wondering if anyone else notices Betancourt's lack of confidence in the field. SS's are supposed to take charge of the defense and I noticed yesterday that Weeks took an infield fly ball that usually SS's take control of and then this last infield grounder that Yuni should've taken. JJ Hardy was definitely the opposite of this guy.
  4. The positive is that Melvin sounded fully aware of all of Betancourt's detractors, which were many, after we acquired him. Trust me, he's keeping a close eye on him as he knows his lack of defensive skill and low OBP. The fact that both are glaringly bad to start the season is smacking Melvin right in the face. He has to start looking into other options before this becomes a disaster.
  5. Sadly, I think we are nervous that we're getting a serious dose of reality. The deficiencies that some of us foresaw in this team are playing themselves out in just 3 games making us fearful of a long summer of witnessing the same blunders and inept play.
  6. A nice screen shot of the genius that is Rick Kranitz.
  7. Game. Set. Match. Wolf looks like Randy Wolf again this year.
  8. Melvin is stubborn in a way. He wants to find that "gem" that people are down on (Betancourt) and tries to prove people wrong. I recall him using RBI's to disprove how truly bad of a player Betancourt is by saying "he had more RBI than Hanley Ramirez last year". Those dumb, random comparisons irritate me most about Melvin. Like when he was comparing Dave Bush's #s to Joe Blanton.
  9. I just think he's not a cerebral player. He's not what you'd call a "thinker" out there on the field. He just goes at 100 miles per hour all the time -- hitting, baserunning, fielding. And sometimes makes seemingly stupid plays because he acts on adrenaline alone. He's the Brewers form of ex-Buck Dan Gadzuric.
  10. Even the Cardinals are 0-2 right now. I'm not worried quite yet. We could hang 7-8 runs on Arroyo tomorrow and we'll all go into the ATL series optimistic. Gotta keep the faith!
  11. A career minor leaguer in Erick Almonte vs a closer who has 291 career saves? Not a shocker who's going to win that matchup...
  12. Interesting stat from the Reds telecast. All of last year Marcum had 26 total 3-0 counts. Today he already has 5. And he keeps rotating his arm and lifting it and stretching in between pitches.
  13. The disheartening thing is I have no faith that our 7,8,9 hitters in our lineup will ever get a hit. Rob Neyer told the guys on the D List this week that as a lifelong Royals fan he's seen firsthand how truly "awful" of a player Betancourt is. HE said you can find a league minimum player that will provide you both the offensive and defensive "production" you'll get from him. Not encouraging.
  14. This Marcum guy looks like BP to me. No coincidence I guess that vs. the AL he was 12-2 last year with the exception of the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays that he was 1-6. So against good teams....
  15. I just wonder if the Brewers end up missing the playoffs by 1-2 games if people who are so forgiving of this injury will all of a sudden change course and reference this as a reason why we fell short....
  16. He should have to forfeit the money he's supposed to be receiving for the time he will miss. To be playing basketball during ST is just dumb. The Brewers should not have to pay someone to sit on the bench because of a non-baseball related injury.
  17. I am not faulting his candidness, but I am faulting his lack of a "filter" of any sorts. These anti-fan quotes will assuredly turn some people off. Just because a person has a thought in their head, it doesn't necessarily mean they have to say it aloud. I don't think Zack understands and/or doesn't care about that.
  18. It's hard to read this story and fall in love with Zack -- the person. He seems to be a chronic complainer and very whiny. It's hard to be sympathetic to his quotes as he is in a profession that most of us could only dream to have. His personality is not what I would ever want for the leader of a team I root for, however, if he pitches up to his potential, he will have many fans irrespective of the way he acts off of the field.
  19. This has been my biggest fear. We have the best trading chip we've had since Richie Sexson and we're going to end up high and dry. You could see this developing a mile away and probably makes Melvin regret not taking Daniel Hudson when he had the chance for Prince. I can see Jack Z coming back to get his first round draft pick after this season as a FA signing that could save his job. Seattle isn't afraid to spend money and Prince could be a good fit for them long-term. That's my prediction. And we're left with 2 draft picks for him.
