  1. Sure not foolin' anyone out there today. It could be BP time pretty soon.
  2. Russ baiting, and Bucksman complaining. Summer's here! Haha!....And we're 16-9! Can you imagine my "complaining" levels if the Crew was instead 9-16?! This is nothin'...I'm in a great mood!
  3. Bucksman, when have we needed a clutch start over the last 7 years? We havent sniffed anything near a playoff run. Yeah, I suppose that is true. But watching the playoffs closely last year and specifically the Cardinals NLCS series, I would prefer the guy who's 'been there, done that' in a key situation in the major leagues. He proved everything I needed to see and more last year when I watched him come up big in the clutch.
  4. You see the 2000 Olympics Gold Medal Game? If we get in that playoff type of must win situation trust me we want Sheets on the mound. I laughed out loud when I read this. You proved my point for me concisely and eloquently in that you have to go back 7 years to find a clutch performance from Sheets. I need only refer to last night to back me up with my Suppan statement about starting in a big game. Oh yeah, and that little, stupid NLCS MVP thing he won last year too. When Sheeter does that, then let's talk. By the way, I'm glad I'm amusing you Russ. Is this how you treat everyone who says something remotely negative about one of your favorite Brewer players? Aww...how cute how you defend your boys...
  5. This sounds like a challenge. Will Sheets look like the Sheets of a few years ago, go out and dominate causing the bucksman to put his tail between his legs, or will Ben lay an egg, or worse, leave the game early, causing a poster of some disdain on this thread to reign victorious over one of our most noted statheads in rluz. Tickets are still available at Miller Park for tonights contest. Come on out Brewer faithful and see which poster will eat cake, and which will eat crow. To be honest, my moneys on Ben. -Don Very uplifting post. Unfortunately, I sound like the person who will eat crow if he loses and am labeled as a Ben hater. But as much as anyone here, I want to see the Brewers win a lot of games and believe it or not.....witness success from Sheets! Just because I am honest with my critiques and say things that cause others to feel as though I'm trolling, I certainly hand out my share of recognition for players who deserve it. I have felt as though Ben Sheets' perfomance in the last few years has not been up to the standards of an ace. Frankly, our 2nd, 3rd, and sometimes even 4th starters have outperformed him. Does that mean I hate Sheets or am a troll if I point that out? Or if I feel he is one of the most overrated Brewers in team history does that make me unknowledgable of the game? I'm sorry, but it takes more than a 95 mph heater and 12-6 cutveball to convince me someone is worthy of 'ace' status. I look at performance out on the field. Right now, no one can argue that he isn't our #3 best starting pitcher. If you do, then I have a right to call into question your baseball knowledge.
  6. rluzinski....I know we haven't been the best of friends on here because whenever I say anything remotely negative about your boy Benny Sheets you either mock my post or blow up and post obsenely large pictures like this. Grow up, my good man. Not everyone thinks Sheetsy-boy is God like you do so if someone by chance critiques the 1-2 4.50 era pitcher, why must you feel like it is your responsibility to defend this under-achiever? As for the troll reference, you must miss the 90%+ positive posts I send forth where pitchers of the caliber of Capuano and Suppan deserve my praise (and the $$$ they are making).
  7. We never win when Sheets pitches. If we need to win 1 game to get us to the post-season, I sure as heck hope it falls in the spot where Soup or Cappy pitches!!!
  8. Hats off to Suppan tonight. Even though he doesn't have a 96 mph heater or an unhittable breaking ball, the man simply knows how to pitch. I hope the 'ace' of this staff is watching this guy out there. He could learn a thing or two from the way Soup mixes up his pitches and never gives in with a straight fastball right up the plate like some guys.
  9. Don't worry, I'll be counting the "and that's" in this convo. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. "Mark Attanasio is at every home game" Um, no he's not. He's in L.A. most of the time. Good try, O'Brien.
  11. Did you see that walk by Estrada there! He now has like two on the year! Who cares. He's the best contact hitter on the team. Don't get on him because he doesn't walk. I'll take putting the ball in play over a K any day of the week.
  12. That Estrada is a freakin' hitting machine. Extend him now!!!
  13. SgtClueLs, after hearing your record at Miller Park, please hand those tickets right back to the boss. I think that ESPN (in an eerie, selfish way) will internally love the fact they chose to broadcast this game. Even if you're not a Cardinal or Brewers fan, you still might tune in to see how this Cardinals team rebounds from the tragedy early yesterday morning. It should be a ratings boom for them. Add to it the fact they're playing against Jeff Suppan, a former teammate of Hancock, they will make sure to emphasize the effect this is having on his pitching performance.
  14. rluzinski --- I'm completely surprised you're sticking up for Sheets! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. And some won't. Your point? I think you know my point. I'm always told you can't critique a pitcher based on wins because he has no control over his run support. And I would say to that: then you better give up fewer runs than your team can score! Why is it people defend Sheets' win totals because he played on bad teams? I know there are plenty of other stud pitchers (on bad teams) out there who win a lot of ball games because they simply allow fewer runs than their opponent. I give Vargas credit because even though he didn't have his best 'stuff' he still held them to 0ER. No questions asked. But if Sheets gave up 4 runs here and we only scored 3 runs we would hear 'but we got him no run support." Vargas deserves credit because he shut the door on them and deserves the WIN.
  16. He was beyond bad. It was the worst scoreless 5 innings I have ever heard. Some of the same people who critique Vargas' 0 runs given up and label it as a 'bad' outing will be the same people who will defend our 'ace' Sheets when he gives up 6 runs (but he gets no run support! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif )
  17. What, we aren't allowed to voice our opinions if our pitcher is pitching like crap? With all due respect, I think he was far from 'Crap' out there. This ump is squeezing these pitchers all day long. What does he want them to do? Throw every pitch right up the middle??? I thought it was a very good outing for Vargas. He made the pitches he needed to at the right times and I have a lot of respect for the way he hung in there and buckled down with the bases loaded.
  18. After Sheets' contract expires and he departs, Carlos V and/or Mr. Gallardo will look awfully good in that rotation.
  19. Make of it what you will.... Ryan Braun is NOT in the Nashville Sounds lineup tonight vs. Omaha.
  20. Capellan anyone? I don't care if he's cussed out Melvin and Yost, bring his 96 mph fastball back here NOW! This Dessens/Aquino/Spurling experiment is horrible. I'd be ready to bet not a one of these three is still on this roster by mid-season or shortly thereafter. I expected a loss tonight. HOU has lost 7 in a row and its team is too good to keep racking up L's. I could see us still running out of here with 2 W's though, which would be great. By the way, seeing Pence up here makes me salivate for the services of Braun in our lineup. Especially with the way our cleanup guy has been hitting. We could use that bat in our lineup ASAP.
  21. Has there been any word on when Estrada is expected back in the lineup?
  22. Awesome game. Just got back myself. Stayed about an hour after the game to get some player autographs and send forth my congratulations. Tidbits: -Sheets and CoCo left thru the fan gates. Got both of them. Sheets walked right out onto the streets and hailed a cab relatively quickly. CoCo met this very attractive blonde woman and as he signed I said "good to get you some rest today huh?" and he said "Yeah, I needed it." He actually stopped to sign for about 10 of us and was a real cool cat. -Capuano stopped by us before heading onto the bus and shot the breeze for a good 5 mins. He was talking about Pats football (being a MA guy) and talked a little about today's game and heckled some Cubs fans. -T Gwynn signed and as he was signing Prince was too. Unfortunately couldn't get Prince because he moved down the line to sign but I got in my congrats for the 2 bombs and he seemed pretty upbeat and friendly. -Bill "taking it to the opposite field" Schroeder was kind enough to stop by. Didn't really bother getting him to sign, but he said "Cubs fans should be used to being in last." -Uecker was the second from last to get on the bus and he didn't stop to sign but he waved to us and gave a little nod. -Geoff Jenkins (who's notoriously hard to get to sign, I heard) stopped when a kid called out "USC!" Estrada was about to get on the bus, but he came over when I yelled "Hey, we're Brewers fans!" It was an awesome game to see and I was so thrilled to hear the stunned silence as the game ended. I made my presence felt and sure saw my share of Brewers' jerseys and hats. I will be back out there on Wednesday to try and bring my record to 3-0 on the year! BTW: Turnbow = nasty today. Unhittable. GO BREW CREW!!!
  23. I made the trek in from Chicago today to see the game, and what a ballgame it was. My MLBTV package doesn't do this park justice and really was itching to see this team play. Best game of the year IMO as far as clutch hitting (6 for 10 RISP) and lots and lots of hits from the Crew. Vargas was unbelievable. Bearing down with the bases loaded was awesome to see and definitely left me with a positive vibe from our supposed "#5" pitcher. This got me to thinking....Ben Sheets is probably our "worst" starting pitcher right now. Cappy, Vargas, Soup, and Bushie are throwing the ball well. Who can disagree with that ascertion at this time?
  24. Bill Hall, again, looking good in CF. I mean, honestly, how long will management allow this to happen before they realize this could really cost us games this year? In all seriousness, he is a huge liability out there in CF (I hold my breath every time a ball is hit in his direction).
  25. Of course good ol' Elmer can't get out of an inning without giving up at least 1 run. I've come to expect that of him.
