  1. Well, a Schmidt signing would make people forget the name Doug Davis in our rotation awfully quickly. Heck, who am I kidding? A Jon Lieber would make me forget about DD quickly too.
  2. Wow, I am torn on this one. I do not like Bonds as a human being. But I like the Brewers very much and want them to succeed and get to the next level. So, would I be willing to suck it up to cheer on this guy for a year? Maybe. And here is why: 1 ) Weeks-2B 2 ) Hardy-SS 3 ) Bonds-LF 4 ) Hall-CF 5 ) Fielder-1B 6 ) Hart-RF 7 ) Estrada-C 8 ) Koskie-3B Pretty nice lineup.
  3. I say why not? If it's a one-yr deal as advertised, it's not much of a risk financially. Plus, I don't think much of Gross/Gwynn/Mench/Jenkins/Nix in the OF mix right now, so why not give the guy a shot? He's a .300 hitter and he'll make some contact out there. Could wind up being an excellent signing IF he stays healthy.
  4. I'm fine with that, so long as it doesn't lead to Gwynn playing. I'd agree with that if we had someone else on the roster who could provide us better play in CF. We don't so we have to look elsewhere. FA or Trade? Take your pick. Gabe Gross is not the answer, sorry to burst anyone's bubble.
  5. If we could make a push for Nomar, why not? They guy can flat out rake and as far as I could tell last season we could use a consistent bat in the lineup. A great compliment to Prince as well in the 3-4 spot. The guy is super-versatile (although I admit not a defensive stud at any spot) is nevertheless an asset to a team that has battled injuries at key infield spots for the last two seasons. Go get em, DM.
  6. Probably because when the season ends, Haudricourt goes into hibernation and forgets the Brewers exist. That is why we have to read this "insider info" from publications halfway across the US.
  7. Baseball America predicted Graffy as a type A free agent In that case, I don't want us to go for any Type A free agents this off-season.
  8. Brian, with a few good moves, I see the Brewers having a legit shot at the playoffs next year. If the Cards win the division with 83, we should be able to improve at least 8 games next season. Were you trying to be funny there or something (just because I think Graff is avg)?
  9. Graff is no starting SS. Not on my team. Note: "my tesm" is one that has a legit shot at making the playoffs.
  10. With 49 SB's, would it qualify him as our everyday CF? If so, this is a bandaid signing. Meaning, it'll do the job for a little while (a year or two at most), but then what?
  11. Milwaukee Brewers. 1 yr 1 mill with an additional 12 million in performance incentives. You'd do it, wouldn't ya? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. every club has injuries. It's not like Rickie Weeks was tearing the cover off the ball and playing extraordinary D. It's not like Ben Sheets wins every game he throws (far from it). And last I checked, Tomo Ohka wasn't a superstar. Now, if we've got a Derrek Lee, a Mark Prior/Kerry Wood go down with injuries, that would be a major hit to a team. We're talking about unproven, mediocre players and an overrated ace. Please!!!! I guess I pretty much disagree with every thing you wrote there. So, having said what he said, Team Canada then must believe, for the record that: 1) Every club DOES NOT have injuries 2) Rickie Weeks WAS hitting the cover off the ball and playing extraordinary D 3) Ben Sheets wins every game he throws 4) Tomo Ohka is a superstar (hmm....interesting) 5) Mark Prior/ Wood/ Derrek Lee injuries weren't a major hit to the Cubs this year. Glad to clear that one up for everyone because Team Canada did "disagree with everything I wrote."
  13. And about injuries.....every club has injuries. Please!!!!
  14. They've done some thinking and seem to feel like myself and Doug Melvin Are you speaking for him now? No. But I do read articles posted with his quotes in it. While I could not find the specific article (either in JS or Milwaukeebrewers.com) I recall Doug saying after the season that we'll have some changes to the lineup next season. For the fans who want more of the same which means more losses, they might not like this paraphrased line of Doug's.
  15. I give people who've posted on the latter threads credit. They've done some thinking and seem to feel like myself and Doug Melvin in thinking many changes will be made this off-season. For the posters who run the same ol' lineup out there and same pitching staff and same bullpen guys as last year, I ask you the question: how have we improved? There was a reason we were well under .500 this season and please, don't say injuries. We had capable players who have had a lot of MLB experience playing everyday for us, so injuries are BS. Get some fresh blood in here...trade a Hardy or Eveland. Start making moves to get better. Not just complacent.
  16. Can you say...."Batting 5th and starting at 3rd Base for your Milwaukee Brewers....Ryan Braun!" Come on now, isn't the AZ Fall league supposed to be a "pitcher's league?" He's tearing the joint up...good to see.
  17. Valid points mothership.... The point is, there is no defense for the Brewers woes. It was many years of mismanagement and lying to fans in getting their hopes up that "the future is bright" when in actuality 1993-2004 was just a decade plus of futility and no real push toward anything beyond mediocrity. When you mention the team "Brewers" the public essentially said, "so? yeah, they suck!". They were a part of the league but never posed a threat to anyone nor ever built any real rivals because they sucked so badly that if anything, other teams would feel sorry for us, not dislike us in any way (because unless there's a threat posed, you typically don't dislike a team).
  18. I'm sorry I can't stay on topic as well as you can rluzinski. No matter what I say, valid or not, you'll jump all over it anyways. You'd think I was talkin about your mom or something.
  19. Playoffs are playoffs. It's disheartening to see people comparing apples and oranges to try and justify the horrendous mediocrity this city has endured from this notoriously horrible franchise over the last 20+ seasons. To not even make one playoff appearance in that time is frankly embarrassing when you sit back and really think about it. Stop trying to defend this team...it's about time we deserved a winner...it's only about 15-20 years late. I worked for the Milwaukee Bucks for 3 years (98-01). All three years we made the playoffs and my last season, we made it to the conference finals. Now that's what I call a competitive team...they weren't just scraping by to get an 8 spot. Herb actually spends some money.
  20. You have to try hard NOT to make the playoffs in the NBA. That's not a good way of looking at it. It's a disgrace to the city of Milwaukee to go two decades plus without a playoff appearance. Make the moves to get it done....now!
  21. I'd go 5 years 75 mil if Soriano will play OF. I thjink he is that good and would be worth the money as an OF. Bringing him in as a 2nd baseman doesn't help us much IMHO. I'd agree with that. Why not spend the money if he's willing to come here? It would be about time the Brewers pony up some dough to bring in a big-name free agent (not named Jeffrey Hammonds). It's not like its yours or my money. I want to see playoff baseball in Milwaukee and right now, we need a bat we can count on in our lineup. We need playmakers and we need players who will compliment the Weeks' and Fielders' as they grow.
  22. Davis with 6 BB's in 6 IP. That's horrible. Just horrible. He has to get this wildman thing fixed this off-season. We're not the type of team that can afford to put men on base for free all game long.
  23. To have won only 25 of our 77 road games thus far is frankly pathetic. If this is the case next year, Yost is a goner. No excuse for this.
  24. Hank White! He always was a hitter http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. I missed the last three innings, but I read that Kevin Mench struck out in his last at-bat. He looked like crap tonight both at the plate and in the field. The problem is, I really believe Mench will be our starting LF next season. Why? Because Doug Melvin wants so badly for this Lee trade to look good. He's going to give Mench another opporunity to fail. Watch. I know he's got an ego and he wants to at least make this trade look somewhat more than an All star LF for a closer deal.
