  1. ( Being born in Milwaukee is no fluke. It is a gift from God.) What about at Cudahy Memorial? Do I fall just outside the Domain of the Blessed? My parents were living on National Avenue at the time if that helps get me through the Pearly Gates
  2. He's most likely out for the year, it's a complete ACL tear. Massive thread in the Major League forum; you can't miss it.
  3. I guess the umpire needs to post the rules for you, then.
  4. Something tells me this thread is going to get huge with people throwing out every possible name until one of two results happens in July or August: 1) The Brewers stick around the race and get a solid if somewhat disappointing #3 or #4-type guy for a few farmhands and/or TGJ, or 2) The season divebombs and Big Ben gets dealt for a young catcher and a couple arms, a prospect and a ML SP I just don't see the Brewers dealing LaPorta, like people said, for what would feasibly be available, or in most other cases unless Prince accepts the deal that was offered. If they can really get a true #2 who will be around for a few years though and not involve LaPorta, I'd be over the moon.
  5. RLuz (who else but our stathead voice of reason) already posted this and it makes me feel better too, if only somewhat since I think we're really gonna need those four wins to make the playoffs. Even then it will really hurt to not have him in a five game series. That said, if we're still in it in July (and I believe we will be), I could see us making a big trade for another arm, which improves those numbers by a win or two even. Or who knows, maybe we could get some young-stud version of Bill Simmons' Patrick Ewing Theory here (please please please)
  6. Just as an update, ole razzzor is sticking his neck out on NSBB.com for the Crew in their Yo ACL thread--Go Razzor Go
  7. Wow, some Brewers fan on the ESPN boards is suggesting a TGJ/Yo for Peavy trade I needed that comic relief
  8. Lincecum is going nowhere unless we do (insanely, imo) throw a Gamel/LaPorta package at them. The Giants see where their bread is buttered and the fans out here eat him up with a spoon.
  9. I know we're all pretty worked up (well, most of us), but I honestly don't see how this is Reed Johnson's fault in the slightest. It was an unusual play but hardly unheard of and certainly not dirty.
  10. Yeah, I'm trying not to be gloom-and-doom about this, but I hope the team doesn't go into an emotional funk over this news which translates into uninspired on-the-field play
  11. He's not carrying the team on his back, but he is our #2 pitcher and he's been absolutely fantastic so far this year and it is indeed a devastating blow to have him gone for the year. I don't think the season's "over" by any means--our lineup's too deep--but as someone who started out watching Sixto Lezcano on my Mother's lap to living and dying by those 80s teams to dying by Lou flippin' Collier and Wayne Franklin and Jerry Royster to now, I'll allow myself some major disappointment in this development. I don't think gnashing your teeth over this means you're not a fan.
  12. I'm confused then as well: if the damage is done and it was OK to keep him out there, then why is he going on the DL? Heck, let's just keep throwing him out there until the kid falls apart. In all this Ned talk I do feel like the trainer's getting a pass here. Why would that trainer tell Ned he was OK to go? (I frankly don't care what Yo had to say about it, to be honest--he doesn't know any more than Ned medically but doesn't have Ned's authority) And yes, I do hate Reed Johnson for his ridiculous dive at first base but I hate him more for the laundry he wears. I think he's way down the list of responsibility, below Yo himself for one.
  13. 1. Ned relies on the trainer in cases like this, which is why I believe the lion's share of any responsibility for any further damage rests on the trainer. That said, Ned's the captain of this ship, of course the decision to send him back out for more work after that play (in April!) has something to do with him. 2. Do me a favor: you don't have to agree with me, but I'd appreciate it if you didn't call me "ignorant" for my opinion.
  14. Difference being, of course, we knew those seasons were in the tank before they even began. This should have been a playoff year, and yeah, it still can be, we still have some big dogs, but I'm not gonna deny that this is a major blow to our chances to see playoff baseball this year, and a regular old Brewers season is not going to satisfy.
  15. It's a legitimate question. If the tear was made worse by keeping him out there, especially by bring him back out for the next inning, heads should roll if not Ned's. Its not a legitamate question at all everything with him always comes back to being ned's fault and its ridiculous. If the trainers and yovanni himself felt he could continue that is the most important thing. Ned has to go by what they say. if they felt he couldn't continue are you naive enough to believe he decided to keep him in anyway? Where did I say that or even imply it? My list said that the trainer holds the biggest responsibility and I do honestly believe that the manager holds more responsibility since 1) players are gonna say they can go whether they can or not ("gritty battlers") and 2) the player doesn't know any better than Ned since neither of them have medical training and the bottom line is that the buck stops with Ned and it's his decision. I never even called for his firing here; I just said that heads should roll if keeping him in there (especially bringing him back out for the next inning, which struck many as crazy at the time--why would you risk that at this point in the season no matter what the player says?) turns out to have made any kind of tear worse. I mean, Ned believed Gagne when Gagne said he was OK after pitching four straight days--that doesn't display good judgment in my opinion.
  16. If we're assigning blame for Yo staying in the game, the order of blame goes like this: 1.) Trainer 2.) Gallardo 3.) Coaching Staff. Not everything is Yost's fault. I'd say: 1. Trainer 2. Ned 3. Gallardo 4. Coaching staff How do Maddux or Simba have more responsibility/authority than Ned? The buck stops with Ned: he's not a doctor and counts on his trainer's opinion, but he shouldn't be taking players input over his own in my opinion.
  17. Yeah, I saw that. I know the Cubs have had their share of pitcher injury issues, but I can't say my first reaction was ever "Hahahahahaha."
  18. It's a legitimate question. If the tear was made worse by keeping him out there, especially by bring him back out for the next inning, heads should roll if not Ned's.
  19. My sentiments exactly...I don't know who we could possibly get at this point, and for what.
  20. Hurts to even read. What a 24 hour swing. I was on top of the world late yesterday afternoon. Now, all is dark.
  21. Oh man Not that the news would be welcome at any rate, but the media and the Brewers didn't think it was a problem at all yesterday which gave me a flase sense of comfort I'm gonna puke, really gonna puke
  22. No personal offense, but I can't stand this attitude. This is our home park, as a true fan there's no reason to capitulate it to another team's fans unless you're really, really hurting for the money. My guess is that Cubs fans probably wouldn't be as annoying if they didn't feel as welcome, which is what this attitude allows for.
  23. Filthy lucre, razzorsharp, filthy lucre
  24. You could probably find a bargain buy or two.
  25. And I might just join Cubs fans' in that treatment on principle alone! Holy smokes. I do agree that they're doing it right by having him pitch shutdown during the late innings for now. Wood blows a few more and I'd have to expect them to do something, most likely involving Marmol.
