  1. I just think it's funny that I'm getting all these emails and messages from Cubs fan friends now after this weekend saying "The race is ON!" What, it wasn't "on" after the no-no on June 12 when the Cubs and Cards were just 5.5 back? And now that there are only 3 more head-to-head games?
  2. You can use a proxy site but I wouldn't recommend it. Best to stay out of trouble on this one.
  3. I'm anti-Fisherman's Wharf, although you should get an In-N-Out while you're here with Animal-style fries (although I'm partial to Culver's myself). There's not much in the Financial District (I work there, at Sansome and Sacramento), but you're close to a lot (North Beach, Chinatown, SoMa). Walk over to the Ferry Building by the Embarcadero in the morning and get some cheese and sourdugh for breakfast and watch the ferries coming in past Yerba Buena Island and the Bay Bridge, and then take the California cable car up to Chinatown and tool around a bit--it's pretty touristy but worth seeing. As for other stuff, try and take a walk over the Golden Gate Bridge, go out to Golden Gate Park (my neck of the woods--the Japanese Tea Garden, the Botanical Gardens, and the Park Chalet out by the Pacific are good places to while away a pleasant hour or two), Alcatraz is a great visit, maybe even try and head up to Twin Peaks--it's a fantastic view up there. PM me if you want restaurant suggestions. Bring a jacket--it's cold here now--and have a good time. There's a lot wrong with San Francisco--the Muni is terrible, it's very expensive here, and homelessness is rampant--but it's a really beautiful, great city with a lot going on.
  4. Why does San Diego get this game but I'm stuck with Mets-Phillies? Argh. Anyway, get at 'em Sheeter
  5. I woke up this morning feel pretty good, just lying in bed, and then I thought of this game. Ugh. It really couldn't have started better or ended worse. Well, up and at 'em. I read some guy on northsidebaseball.com say yesterday after this one that the Cubs now "control their own destiny." Look at the standings, Cub Fan--dramatic walkoffs don't count for 6 1/2 games.
  6. Then on the back, and word for word it said: ".500 beyotch" Haha, oh man... Well, I wasn't there today but I've never had any problems except one time two years ago some drunk middle-aged woman in the bleachers pointedly asked me to tell her who was winning (It was the 4th and the Cubs were up 3-1). You gotta give it back to these people. The closest I can compare to today was in Sepetmber '98 when the Brewers were up 10-2 in the 5th and ended up losing 15-12 when the Cubs scored 5 in th bottom of the 9th. Brutal to watch, but the Brewers were just roadkill that year at that point anyway, and the Cubs were on the way to the playoffs.
  7. A beautiful place to see a game...I always took the train in so parking was never an issue
  8. http://www.cracked.com/jp/quotesleague.jpg "There's another game in less than 24 hours for Pete's sake!"
  9. I don't recall anyone here claiming the Cubs would get swept against the White Sox...if anything, everyone here pointed out that they always played the Sox tough. Anyway, they're not an unstoppable force here...a sweep against a fading White Sox team, a good series sweep against a Rockies team that has lost seven straight as of last night, and a walkoff with two outs in the 9th doesn't make them the '27 Yanks or even the '03 Cubs for that matter. They can and will be had.
  10. I feel especially bad for any Brewers fan wearing a CHOKE shirt today
  11. Amazing how the guy doesn't even play one pitch and he STILL manages to get in my craw! heh. Anyway, I honestly believe this time next week these melodramatics from the Cubs and their fans will be worth a hill of beans.
  12. Just in case anyone ever needs an expectorant: http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2007-06/30864529.jpg http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2007-06/30863815.jpg
  13. Man, I bet they're getting it from Wrigleyville's sizeable population of drunk frat boys and d-bags from Schaumburg right now
  14. I wouldn't have been annoyed with Pie, Lee, Fontenot, even Soriano hitting the walkoff today...I've always thought Ramirez was a chump though, so I'm a little more burnt than I would have been.
  15. Yeah, if they had lost in almost any other fashion besides a walkoff after the Crew had led them from a big first inning, I'd be OK with it. This stunk, but the Brewers' run after the Verlander no-no has taught me not to put as much stock in the idea of deflating losses.
  16. I just wasn't happy with the missed opportunities in the 2nd and 3rd (and 8th, for that matter) That was a two-game swing...seems like the Brewers have had a hard time being "finishers" all year
  17. That was a two-game swing right there.
  18. Carlos Marmol wins that game, ridiculous Edit: Nevermind, I forgot that Howry came in...even more ridiculous
  19. Gotta give them credit. Instead of us burning through the Cubs' pen, they burned through us A crummy end to the workweek though, this should have been a working
  20. This is like a reverse of the Brewers' 1st game of the year at Wrigley
  21. Bruce Froemming is brutal His zone has looked miniscule all day for both teams Of course Cubs fans think because he's from Milwaukee he has it out for them
  22. That's a heckuva 10 year career
  23. Good on ya, D.T.! (does that stand for delerium tremens?!?)
  24. I agree with you Matt Wise...the bullpen deserves a hand.
