  1. I also think TH does a pretty good job, although I generally don't like his condescending tone towards the common fan (although I can understand it after being called out over and over by them). I also think his balance with Ned has been pretty good. I just think it's a little silly to point to those few sentences and say, "A-ha!" Especially when the guy doing the pointing has an obvious bias.
  2. Extra, extra! TH vindicated upon one paragraph! Proof provided by fellow journalist, read all about it!!!
  3. Cold comfort (for most of us save Russ L): Cubs Lose!!! Good job, Furoda
  4. 1 out, top of the 9th, Dodgers beating the Cubs 3-0, Vin Scully, things are feeling better after tonight's loss
  5. Hey bud, it's not my place to call anyone out, but between this post and talking about "bashing [Yost's] head in," I think a little perspective may be required here. I don't like Ned's decisions (nor some of his behavior), but we're talking about a game here. Sun's gonna rise tomorrow.
  6. Mine was Tequilla. I'm about to switch to some schnapps, my friend. Sweet oblivion. Anyway, "the Rockies best win of the year" according to their announcers tonight. Speaking of which, I gotta say, I really, really liked those guys and won't mind listening to them again this weekend...heck, I'd prefer them to Rock and BA. Very knowledgable, low-key, and not a trace of homerism. If anything they're guilty of Daron-ism: too fond of the opposing team. Well, don't bring yourselves down about this one, although I'm raging inside. A loss is a loss....keep telling yourselves that, right?
  7. I killed a bottle of wine while watching tonight's unfolding disaster, I'm all smiles right now Yost ruuuuuules, haters!
  8. Hearing opposing team's announcers via Extra Innings makes you realize there's no anti-Yost conspiracy here or even that he's being picked on unfairly (generally)...they are CONSTANTLY second-guessing him, including tonight. Their job is to watch and comment on baseball. But I guess everyone here's a whiner, looking for a scapegoat. Anyway, Corpas will get the win in a bitter irony I just want one in Colorado, let's get it Crew
  9. Yeah, rested bullpen and Mota clearly didn't have it, so why not have someone warmed up before Helton? Why is Kapler still there late with a slim lead? Sure, the Rox look good this inning but these things are his job. Anyway, this is one of the more grating losses of the year regardless of who's at fault
  10. If they're going to start Kapler he needs to be substituted defensively late That was ridiculous Clearly, Mota didn't have it there, either, though Annnnnnd.... Ugh
  11. Dear Lord, why did Ned not have Shouse warmed up there
  12. Sorry for taking this off-topic topic off-topic Olympics in Chicago? I submit Yes! With the condition that Daley and his cronies be well out of office in the years during construction (although I hughly doubt it)
  13. Either that or they can give up their H2 Suburban Explorer to the Max guzzle muscle. Exactly. Unfortunately for a lot of people that's akin to giving up their manhood and/or freedom
  14. I do. I guess that make me an "ungreen - friendly" dinosaur I'm talking about in big cities Although sooner than later public transportation's gonna become a necessity nearly everywhere, whether people like it or not
  15. Not to get too far off topic, but thirded: their homerism is almost to the Southsiders' level (right now they're on par with Florida's awful broadcasting team) and Kasper reminds me of a yappy little dog.
  16. I moved to Edgewater in 2006 from there (and then a couple months after that I applied for a transfer to SF) We were pretty close to Ashland, so we always told people that we lived in Ravenswood close to Andersonville, although we were within walking distance of Lincoln Square. The neighborhood definitely changed when we were there
  17. Schroeder, Brewers' color-man Seems he never misses an opportunity to trash the long-ball as a valid form of scoring
  18. Holy smokes, we were relatively near-neighbors Homer...I lived at Winnemac and Hermitage for years
  19. First thing I did this morning at work was send my Dodgers fan friend Doug down in LA an email, chastising him for the Dodgers' performance on behalf of the Crew, and he writes back: "it was frustrating as all [get-out]. Saito seems to be losing his fire. It was a little ironic watching him blow it last night since it was also Saito bobblehead night. " Shades of D-bow!!!
  20. True, but after watching them lose five games in person out here last year (including a devastating and completely demoralizing August sweep against the Giants), I can't help but feel like things are even more dire Out West! Anyway, color me surprised that Jeromy Burnitz is the career games leader in RF for the Brewers
  21. Kemp swinging at Ball Three there...not good Oh well, would've been nice to have seen the Dodgers capitalize there. Get 'em tomorrow
  22. Awesome, a night game I'll be able to watch the entirety of after-work. Glad to see the Crew start to edge out to the Golden West a little, despite their problems here. Anyway, I'd love to start the road trip off right and no better way to do it than Mr. Ben on the mound...let's make our Stopper the Starter
  23. Downtown Chicago's traffic might be bad for a guy that lives in a suburb of a small city, but as far as big cities go, it's really not that bad. Heck, smaller cities like Atlanta are notably worse. Who drives anyway?!? As far as "dirty" goes, I've never found it worse than any other sizable city and in many cases, much cleaner on the whole.
  24. I was in Atlanta during '96 for a couple days but as I was a college student slumming it, there mostly for the parties, and I didn't make it to one event--not one! I'm planning on heading up to Vancouver in two years, since I'm still a sucker for the Olympics despite all its problems. I know when I lived in Chicago most of the residents I knew were lukewarm at best on the idea, but I think the infrastructural improvements can do nothing but benefit the city in years to come. The oft-mentioned Montreal financial debacle is a thing of the past. I do agree that it's likely between Rio and Chicago...I'd believe that Rio would have a strong shot as it'd be the first ever South American Olympics and there has to be sentiment towards that.
