  1. Over the winter I've been watching games from the 60's, 70's, and 80's on YouTube. Based on my observations a major reason why games were shorter then was because batters were nearly always ready to go in the batter's box and if the ball was not put in play the pitcher just backed up until he was on the rubber, took the throw from the catcher, and was immediately staring down for the sign to throw the next pitch. Very little backing out of the batter's box by the hitter and very little walking around the mound by the pitcher. In Spring Training they should show a couple of innings of one of those games to every team and tell them that is the way the game is expected to be played.
  2. Actually I'll watch a lot of live baseball (through MLB.tv). It just won't be live Brewers. I can live with that because I love baseball first and foremost and won't feel too deprived not watching the Brewers live. I've been following the Brewers since 1978 when I was 8. If all I had to satisfy me was the Brewers I'd probably have given up on the sport years ago, which is what I did with the NBA around 1990.
  3. Yes, I would have the game in the background the next morning while I worked from home. Good. That's a solution. Not an ideal one but it will work. I'll watch the Facebook highlights the night of the game and follow up with the full game (or parts of it) the next day.
  4. I should know the answer to this because I've had MLB.tv for years, but can we in Wisconsin watch Brewer games in the archive after 24 hours or are they still blacked out? It's never been an issue before as I've always had FSW to watch the games live.
  5. How were you watching Brewer games before this year?
  6. So... what is your opinion on the JBJ signing? Part of a forum is the discussion... part of the internet is nitpicking... We try to keep the attacks to a minimum; at least compared to other boards. I like it. I said months ago the Brewers had the ability to spend. And now they are. At least they aren't totally cheaping out. And now we can enjoy these defensive gems for the next year or two.
  7. This board would be more enjoyable to read if people spent more time simply expressing their own opinions rather than nitpicking or attacking what someone else wrote.
  8. The Dodgers just officially announced the signing of JT. They waited until the start of ST so they could place Caleb Ferguson on the 60 day DL (TJ surgery last September) as they had no additional spots on their 40 man roster to do so earlier without DFA'ing or releasing someone.
  9. It's not the juicing that's the problem. I'm sure a lot of players use PED's and never get caught and we will never think less of them. And a lot of players get caught and take their punishment and move on. The problem is the lying and pointing the finger of blame at an innocent man. Huge difference. I can't think of another guilty PED user not named Lance Armstrong who went to greater lengths to deceive the public into thinking he was clean and vilify the people who supported a contrary view. For the most part I had let it go. I actually never have booed Braun. I've also never cheered him. But when I hear people say he "deserves" a Miller Park send off I see red. The man is no hero.
  10. Go for it. You and two other myopic people who think a mistake defines a person. It must be nice to be mistake-free so that you are free to be so judgmental. Judging the entire body of work, Ryan was great for the Brewers. Not good. Great. A mistake is taking PED's. Giving a sanctimonious "I didn't use PED's and the urine collector is the bad guy" speech in Spring Training is the mark of a truly despicable person. Braun is a piece of garbage. Good riddance.
  11. If Braun comes back I will be sure to buy a ticket so I can boo him lustily in person. The guy is a cheater and a liar who played us all for fools. He deserves no applause.
  12. I like this. A Shaw/Robertson platoon could put up really decent numbers at 3B for not much money.
  13. Walker Buehler trolling the Brewers on Twitter regarding Justin Turner. "We're we scared? The Brewers? Hahahahahaha." I nominate Buehler for a fastball to the ribs come regular season. He needs to be sent a message. The Brewers might not be able to sign high-priced 36 year old thirdbasemen, but we will not be disrespected.
  14. Turner was never coming here as long as the Dodgers wanted him back. The only question was how many years and dollars from LA it would take.
  15. I'm not saying Turner has animosity toward Milwaukee. I'm saying he wants to play for the Dodgers and not the Brewers. Personally, while I'd like him to play for the Brewers, I hope he stays in LA because I don't want a high priced key piece of the team to be wishing he was somewhere else for three years.
  16. This is dragging out because Turner does not want to play for the Brewers, but as of right now they have an offer on the table that is considerably better than what the Dodgers are offering. Turner needs to decide how much money he willing to forgo in order to stay in LA.
  17. I have zero interest in bringing back a 37 year old whose skills have eroded to the replacement level and who says two weeks before Spring Training starts, "I’m not currently interested in playing." Does that sound like a recipe for success? I wouldn't touch Braun with a barge pole.
  18. For 2021 yes. But in 2022 the only starter who is guaranteed money is Bauer. And if he he opts out they have zero guaranteed money in their 2022 rotation. But what they do have is a bevy of good young starters already present or coming who don't have any guaranteed money such as Walker Buehler, Julio Urias, Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin, and Josiah Gray. [Edit - I forgot that David Price has $16m guaranteed for 2022, unless they trade him.] Andrew Friedman is truly releasing the Kraken. More money than God, cheap young talent on the roster with more coming, and the good sense to maintain payroll flexibility. I could see them winning 2 or 3 more World Series championships in the next 4-5 years.
  19. I don't think opt outs are exclusively pro-player. If a player performs so well in the first year that he wants to opt out it gives the team the option to go in a different direction if they want. It also means they got good value for the season they had the player.
  20. I disagree completely. They've limited their damage to three years at most (assuming things don't go well).
  21. I hope you're right, but I'm torn on if I think that's the case. Initially I believed that also, but now that they're over the luxury tax threshold anyway I'm not sure it matters to them much if they have to pay a 20% tax on Turner's 2021 salary. They'll need to maneuver away from any long-term commitment to Turner since they'll want to reset from the escalating penalties in future seasons, but I don't think it totally rules out that they would offer a high AAV 1-2 year deal to Turner. Seems to be more steam for Ozuna possibly ending up back with the Braves, so maybe the Brewers do indeed become the front-runner for Turner. The Dodgers don't have a lot of money committed to 2022 and beyond (other than Betts). So they have LOTS of flexibility to get under the luxury tax in 2022. I think the Dodgers will soon announce the re-signing of Justin Turner as well.
  22. How do you think he will be fine at 1st? He is undersized for the position plus all his other defensive liabilities and you looking at a black hole. Hiura is listed at 6-0. How is that fatally undersized for 1st? Steve Garvey was 5-10. He won 4 gold gloves.
  23. The goal in building a team is to win more games. That can be done by scoring more runs yourself or holding the opposing team to fewer runs. Either way works.
  24. I agree.
  25. I like this signing. I'm not going to complain about the money because I want the Brewers to spend their money on making the team better. I like that Stearns recognizes that starting 2021 with an awful defending infield is not a recipe for success. I also think the DH will still be added to the NL this year (when the MLB and MLBPA are done playing chicken) so Huira will DH and hopefully rake.
