    I was certain we had lost when we didn't score in the top of the 10th. It's nice to be wrong sometimes!

    Notice how women softball pitchers wear a scaled-down version of a catcher's mask? Good move!!! Some years ago, my daughter ..our best pitcher.. broke her nose doing a goofy batting practice drill put in place by her idiotic coach (who was also her dad). There was significant risk of dangerous bleeding if she got another knock on the schnozz. When I suggested letting her pitch in the state tournament while wearing a mask, it was viewed with dismay, wonder, or contempt by almost everyone, including league officials. She missed her spot in the rotation for the opening game. Fortunately, her backup* rose to the occasion, pitched beautifully, and we won the game. (We didn't win State that year, but we won it the next. ) I also remember when hockey players --including goalies-- played without mask or helmets (and you could smoke on airplanes, &c., &c. heheh) * Her backup was a girl named Katie. I wish I could remember her last name because she was a great teammate. Fortunately, I had the rare good sense to praise her in front of the players and parents for stepping up in a great way.

    At least I got to listen to Kansas City clobber the Cardinals. 😊 On a more serious note, I notice that, at some or maybe all Memorial Day games, there were moments of silence or other acknowledgments of those "who gave the last full measure of devotion" to our nation.

    I cant even pronounce it. I have Polish bud who says there's just no way to explain the pronunciation of "trz" because it's a sound native English speakers never use in a word. 😀

    But... I like the idea of giving the younger guys from the farm a shot. When you can't buy a Shohei, you must try something. Or keep grabbing the Andrew McCutchens and Kolten Wongs? (sorry, that was not the relevant post to reply to; but I'm leaving it.)

    One thing you can be absolutely certain about in baseball, is that you cannot be absolutely certain about anything in baseball. Who bet on Tampa losing 20-1 to the Jays? (OK, it was more like 10-0 as the Rays gave up and let me pitch a couple of innings.) Disappointments are inevitable, but we have had some very nice surprises this year.

    I've been busy with some glass recycling and beer drinking with the glass crew, so I missed how we had a runner on 3d with 1 out and then ahd a runner on 2d with 2 out and no run. bughghghg I'm not sure I want to know how that happened
