I can't say for sure what the Indians do - but is it maybe because the Brewers insist on doing 5-6 bobbleheads a year and might go the cheaper route? If we only had 2-3, we could probably invest more money to make them nicer and the company that makes them would have more time. As it stands now, we have 1 a month. So they probably spend less time on them to get them all done and we spend less money to cover the cost of all 6 of them. Just a thought.

Whats the rarest baseball thing you've seen in person?
brwrsfan replied to InsomniacInkRoss's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I'll chime in on this one too. I was at the Dave Bush 4 straight HR game - and I was absolutely cheering for a 5th one, just for the history. I doubt I can ever top this, since it's only happened a few times ever. I have seen not 1, but 2 Brewer cycles in person - Chad Moeller against the Reds and Jody Gerut against the Dbacks this year in Arizona. It's not so much the cycles, though they are pretty rare, it's the fact that it was those 2 schmucks that did it. Not overly rare, but I saw the Brewers turn a triple play against the Cubs on Opening Day, now that was sweet. When I was a little kid, our little league team went to a game and saw the Brewers trail 7-0, only to come back and score 13 runs in an inning, then 7 in the next inning in route to a 20-7 win. I believe it is still the most runs the Brewers have ever scored in an inning. A couple years back against the Nationals (I think), I saw a balk-off win for the Brewers. Runners at the corners, pick off move to first called a balk. And the Brewers balked-off. It was very strange. This can't possibly happen very often. I've seen a 1 hit, 17K game (Curt Schilling) against the Brewers and Ben Sheets 18K game against the Braves. And in Houston a couple of years ago, I saw the couple in front of us (say early twenties in age) wear matching outfits to the game. Not just matching outfits, but matching white shorts, pink polo shirts and identical sandals. The guy even had his collar popped. I've never seen anything else like it at a baseball game or anywhere else for that matter. -
No big deal, thanks for all the info. #7 was the hole I was most interested in watching, but I would prefer somewhere to sit down...Thanks to everyone for the info so far, it's been very helpful. What holes on the back 9 would you recommend watching?
-
I checked the map out and I don't see a grandstand by the 7th or 3rd hole. Can anyone confirm this? If anyone went today or can watch it on tv, can you confirm if there is a place to sit on either of those holes? Preferablly the 7th.? It's entirely possible it's just not on the map.
-
Wow, thanks for all the information, that seems to really help. If we want to sit on the 7th hole, what time do you think we should get there? Looks like the first tee time for Saturday is 7:36. Also, I see that it says on the spectators guide that cell phones are permitted...is that accurate? You can't bring a cell phone in with you? I can see the noise being a problem I guess?
-
Do they have chairs for you to use? Did you bring your own? Or did you pretty much just stand there all day?

So I stumbled into 2 free tickets for the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits this Saturday, wondering if anyone on here can give me some advice about it. I watch golf occassionally but I'm not an overly big golf fan and I've never been to a golf event before. I've been told that there are basically 2 options: 1. Find a hole that you like, see if you can find a spot to sit and just stay there all day - you'll get to see all the golfers come through at some point or other. I've actually been to Whistling once, and I didn't really see too many places to sit down, is this even possible here? I was told the 7th would be an ideal hole to watch, but when I look it up online, there really wasn't much room there. Are you allowed to bring in lawn chairs or anything like that? I'd like to sit on a par 3 so I can actually see everything on the hole. But I'm open to any other suggestions. 2. Walk around the golf course all day, maybe follow a player for a hole or two or just generally check it out. I've heard this could be difficult to really see much as there will obviously be a lot of people doing this. Any insight on this would be helpful, especially if anybody goes there today for the first round. I just have no idea what to expect and could use some help. Also, is there any sort of dress code? It's supposed to be like 88...I was thinking just some shorts and a polo shirt, is that ok? Edit: Sorry, thought of two other things: anybody know what the parking situation will be like or where the best place to park would be? And any idea where the will call window would be? Thanks for your help. Jeff

Does anyone know what Kurt Thomas is thinking of doing? Is it completely out of the realm that he could return? I mean, he's not great but he's definitely a serviceable backup that can give some minutes. He would be pretty cheap, knows the guys, the system and might have some veteran influence or teachings for some of the younger big guys we've accumulated.

Well I might as well ask for it too if it's not too late. jjbrwrsfan at yahoo.com

Thundercat - I sent you a PM. Please check it out. -
Long story short.....I stumbled across a Gallardo signed ball yesterday cleaning out a box from when I moved - which was very odd, considering I already had one on my shelf, so I have no idea how, but I now have 2 balls signed by him. I'm looking to trade rather than sell if possible. It's an official MLB ball, signed on the sweet spot. I'll try to get a picture up later today if possible. I have all the Brewers SGA bobbleheads so I don't really need any of those. I'm more looking to trade it for something signed, preferably a ball or 8x10. Doesn't necessarily have to be a Brewer player, I'm open to Brewers, Bucks, Packers, Badgers, etc. Sorry to not be more specific and it's possible I'll already have what you're offering but there is nothing specific that I'm currently looking for, just make an offer if interested. Edit: I got a couple of offers but I already had the 8x10's. In an effort to make things easier, when I get home from work tonight I will post the list photos I already have. Here is the list: Brewers - Sheets (2), Hardy, Hall, CC, Hart, Fingers, Turnbow, Belliard, Burnitz, Jenkins, Sexson, Jaha, Podsednik, Yost Packers - Freeman, Jones, Davenport, Driver, Fisher, Bennett, Sharpe, Green, Grant, Sharper, Brooks, Woodson Bucks - Moncrief, Gadzuric, Jennings Badgers/Golden Eagles - Wade, Novak, James, Tucker, Evans, Chambers, Bollinger, Bennett, Fletcher, Kam Taylor

I want to make it perfectly clear that I understand this is a real person and that he is clearly more important than a TV show. I don't watch the show for suspense or anything like that, I just find it to be an interesting show. I just think it could have been handled differently. If say, at the start of the season or on these past episodes they put a screen up that said "in loving memory of Captain Phil Harris" or something like that. I certainly don't feel that they should be exploting the man and adding as much drama as possible. And I, too, am saddened to watch the events of his death - I think of my own dad and our relationship and the daugther that I have on the way and it's very difficult to watch. Just don't want my comments to come accross like I'm a monster and I'm just thinking about better TV or anything like that, it's not the case at all. That beign said, they clearly ARE making money off of his death though, as the ratings have been through the roof for these episodes (out of their control, I know) and they are stretching his illness/death over 3-4 episodes, when in reality it was only about 10 days from his stroke to his passing. Maybe I missed the episode when they told us, but to this point on Deadliest Catch - they haven't said yet that he ultimately dies. If they did, I apologize and retract my comments. We all know he died because we saw the news when it happened and they covered on the "After the Catch" but that's a different show. If you had your DVR set to record just Deadliest Catch and missed the news when he died - and all you did was watch Deadliest Catch, you would NOT know at this point that he dies, and that's my biggest issue I guess. If you were a casual viewer or just happened to flip the show on for the first time in the past month or two (or if you somehow missed the news that he died, which I will grant you, is probably not too many people), you would have no idea that he passes away and they most certainly would be "stringing you along" with the did he/didn't he make it. I guess since nobody else sees a problem with it at all, that I must be in the vast minority on this one, so if we can all just agree to let it drop, that's perfectly fine with me, just wanted to let you guys know where my thought process was on this.
-
Couldn't they have easily just aired the After the Catch episodes later in the season? After we all knew he died? They could have avoided it if they wanted to, that's all I'm saying and it ruined it for at least one "semi" fan. My wife watches it with me sometimes, and she had no idea and was mildly disappointed with how they handled it.
-
Right, which I think is great. The show should be interesting to watch. But last week, he had a stroke at the end of the show, if you didn't know that he had passed away - the show gave no indication that he didn't make it, just that he had the stroke and got taken away in an ambulance. Immediately after that episode, the "After the Catch" special was on, where all of the captains get together and talk about the show and the season and whatnot. During that show, they basically said Phil had died and there was a picture of him at the table. The Deadliest Catch show has not yet said that he died (and as you said, will have 2-3 more episodes on it) but the After the Catch did so before the actual Deadliest Catch show got to it - ruined some of the drama of the next couple of episodes for those people that didn't know he had died.
-
Oh man, someone please take Hayward in front of us, I'm begging you.
-
I hadn't heard anything about Aminu, he would be a pretty big steal at 15. Has anyone heard anything else about the Bucks making any other trades? Hammond basically said in the paper today that they likely will not keep all of their seconds. Could we possibly group 2 seconds together for a first, then trade the 2 firsts to get in the top 5 or so? Or just keep the two firsts ourselves, is that even a possibility?
-
I thought the programming on Discovery was very poor though. At the end of the latest Deadliest Catch episode, Phil is seen having the stroke and taken away in an ambulance - but he is still somewhat talking, the last thing you hear is "I'm not leaving you" or something like that to his son. So they don't really finish the story (I'm assuming that's in the next episode). If you were just a casual viewer of the show you might not know that he passed away. So you'd be very intrigued for the next week's episode. Immediately after the episode they have another "After the Catch" show and they talk about Phil passing away and how his picture is hanging there instead. They hadn't gotten to that on the actual show yet, then told everyone on After the Catch that he had died. Basically just ruined the next episode for those people that hadn't heard the news. Granted, most people probably had, but I still thought it was poor judgement. They shouldn't have shown anything at all or talked about it until after it actually happened on Deadliest Catch. These next few episodes and next season will be very, very interesting though.

I would agree, the episode a couple weeks back when he told the camera guy he wasn't going to be around much longer was really creepy. Watching it and knowing he was going to die in a few weeks was really odd. Wonder if he felt sick or what the deal was. He's also had some serious issues with his son Jake this season, this past episode he caught him stealing his drugs and went ballistic on him. Who knows how much time passed between that and his death, but I'd hate to be the son and have that be the last interaction I had with my father. I would also agree on the "Jakes" thing. That was incredibly stupid. There had to be a better way to get them back on their respective boats than to throw them in the water like that. You'd think they'd be in port near the same time or something. They got really lucky nobody got hurt or died in that sequence. I wonder what both the show and the boat do going forward. Does one of the sons take over? Do they sell it? I can't see one son working for the other. Maybe Phil had a will leaving it to one of them? Could either of them do it? Jake probably not. The other one maybe could but neither has much experience driving the boat, dropping pots, etc. Might be tough to maintain. And does the show stay with them without Phil? He was one of the more popular people. I bet they stay for one more season to see how it goes, then maybe replace them if it isn't as good. Kinda like the roving 5th boat they always follow - they usually suck.

Looks like Bogut is likely not playing tonight with a "slight back strain", which they claim is nothing serious, but we'll see. Ersan also doubtful with flu-like symptoms. That's not good. Claims it's been bothering him for a few days, which might explain why he was playing so poorly lately. One of the bigger games of the year (win gets us a virtual 4 game lead on Miami with 11 to play) and we're without 2 of our front court players, we might even have to suffer through a Dan Gadzuric sighting tonight (do you realize he hasn't played since 2/17!!?!). We won in Denver pretty much without Bogut, so there's hope, but this is a tough one.

Brewers 40th anniversary season (promotions)
brwrsfan replied to bjkrautk's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I'm sure one of those games is the final sausage. I'm having a brain fart right now, but I believe they haven't done the Italian Sausage yet? It's that or the brat, I just can't remember. Either way, they have to round out that collection and have had a sausage the last few years. I'd be shocked if that isn't one of them. The last one almost has to be a current player doesn't it? I mean, they're doing 4 "retro" ones, I would think it's someone currently on the team - I'd venture a guess that it's Gallardo. As far as the "retro" weekend ones, it's a cool idea, I'm just not overly stoked about getting 3 more bobbleheads of players I already have - and how exactly are they going to illustrate a hit on a bobblehead? Just put a date on it or something? Just seems kind weird, I'm interested in seeing them, just wish it wasn't Aaron, Yount (again, for the third? time now) and Cooper. The CC one will be cool, I'm sure it's him on the mound, letting out that massive scream after the DP. It's a great photo and will be a cool bobblehead, just going to be a bit depressing to see. -
So we're in Hawaii now, got in really late last night but so far it's pretty sweet. We definitely are going to do some of the things on here. In regards to a Luau...there are several places that have them but some seem to get some bad reviews. Anyone happen to have gone on a Luau here and remember what company/location they were at? Recommendations? Thanks again.

My wife and I are heading to Hawaii on Wednesday for a belated honeymoon and I'm curious if anybody has any "can't miss" restuarants, things to do, etc. We're staying near Honolulu and we don't have a ton of stuff planned. I'm not sure if we'll visit any other islands or not but would like suggestions for any of them. We don't have a whole lot planned - we'll be seeing Pearl Harbor one day and going to the Wisconsin/Hawaii football game on Saturday and an abudance of time on the beach. Other than tha...we're looking for any cool restaurants, bars, places, experiences or any other suggestions anyone might have would be great. Thanks for the help.

I don't mind Patterson coming up...after the AAA season is over. Calling him up now makes very little sense. Gerut is actually starting to play well, Cat has been just fine in the reserve role. I don't understand the timing at all. With Nashville only a half game out and the "winning mentality" supposed to be spread throughout the organization, this makes very little sense to me. He was playing well in AAA, would it really hurt to leave down there for 4 more days to see what happens? It's not like he's going to do much up here that will help anyway.
