  1. It certainly could be a work. Though it feels different this time. That said, as a fan, I find bringing guys back on a part-time basis and putting them in main events to be ridiculous. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I was an actual wrestler that works all year and then gets snubbed by PT guys like Batista or Lesnar. The Rock was a bit different, mainly because I think the fans wanted to see him, even for a match or two. Nobody cares about Batista. Bringing him back to win the RR in his first week was just stupid. Personally, I do hope they go with Orton/Batista in the main event, last match at WM. I'd pay money just to see that debacle unfold. It's really tough to tell as the line between fantasy and reality is almost impossible to tell in the world of pro wrestling.
  2. I have no problem with him leaving if that's what he feels he needs to do. I just find it odd that he did it in the middle of a contract like that. I don't think WWE is going to appreciate that very much. If he really wanted to leave, you think he could have done it more professionally and at least let them right him off TV in some way. I hope he finds his way back, I always liked him, both in the ring and on the mic.
  3. Rumors/reports are circulating that Punk has walked out on the WWE after he told the company he was going home and not coming back. Those same reports say he is no longer part of WWE's plans. I thought it seemed strange that he was not only absent from Raw, but his name wasn't even mentioned on the show from what I remembered. His contract ends in July and he's always said he wants to leave on his own terms. We shall see what happens. If this is all true, I really want to see Bryan/HHH at Mania. Huh. Guess I missed that. I don't really scan the wrestling rumors these days. That would certainly be odd. Kinda sucks too, I actually liked him. Edit: I see it now... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1940411-wwe-news-cm-punk-pulled-from-all-wwe-live-dates-going-forward
  4. Punk can't just disappear can he? Unless he's hurt, it makes no sense at this time. I would think he has to wind up wrestling either Kane or HHH at WrestleMania. Not that it will matter, HHH's ego will get in the way of him putting over anyone. That's really the only explanation for the current status - ie, all his buddies holding titles.
  5. Pretty bad overall. The tag titles change hands in the pre-show, to an old team that has only been back a month or so. Batista wins the RR despite having returned last week and not wrestling for 4-5 years. Cena/Orton sucked, but to once again have it end with interference is just getting super old. The RR itself was ok, Reigns looked great. Shaemus came back but there were not other real surprises. The only old guy was Kevin Nash, but he's been around lately so that wasn't all that exciting. Just a pretty boring PPV top to bottom. And you're right, with only one title belt, it's almost certainly going to be Orton vs Batista at WM, and that's a match that I have virtually no interest in watching at all.
  6. This is just so weird. An entire day goes by and we hear absolutely NOTHING. Just bizarre. Nobody that reported on it yesterday really even offered an update. I would think this has to be move than salary breakdowns, as that wouldn't seemingly take this long to hash out. It's made me really leery that this deal will ever actually happen
  7. I just stumbled across this, not sure how reliable this is or not. If this is really the case, Doug needs to go to Mark A and make this happen. You can't lose a player simply over the distribution of the salaries: The only other thing I could think of was that it then had something to do with the contract language so I reached out to a source who confirmed that it was at least part of the situation if it wasn’t all of the snag. The issue, according to a source, is that the Brewers and Garza are haggling over the distribution of the contract. In other words, how much is paid in which seasons. They agree on the length and overall value (which they met in the middle on, I’m also told, as the Brewers originally hoped to pay 4yr/$48MM and Garza wanted 4yr/$56MM), but they haven’t yet come to an accord on how the money will be paid out. Garza is asking for a mostly even average value (which precisely would be $13 million per year) and the Brewers are looking to backload the deal somewhat in order to pay more of it when it’s more affordable. That of course being when the contracts of highly-compensated players like Rickie Weeks and Aramis Ramirez should be off the books. This hang up in negotiations was described to me as “overcome-able” but deals have also fallen apart over less so nothing is official until the contract is formally announced http://brewernation.mlblogs.com/2014/01/24/hot-stove-report-whats-holding-up-garzas-contract/
  8. It almost has to be health related, but I guess it's something they may want to examine further, get more opinions, etc. I can't imagine they'd bring him here, have a press conference setup and then have it all fall through over minor contract details. That makes no sense at all. It's almost noon and not a single peep from anyone in the media today. Are they just all talking McCalvy at his word and that this will be a done deal? Very odd.
  9. I agree. Who knows who McCalvy's sources are, or anyone on this board for that matter. My guess is that they DID find something wrong and want to get it looked at further before finalizing the contract. I find it a little odd that nobody has an update on it at all today. Haurdicourt or someone. The more time that passes without a deal, the more and more I'm thinking it's not going to happen unfortunately.
  10. Something is just extremely weird. It shouldn't take this long to "wrap up the deal". I'd tend to believe it's injury related too, despite what McCalvy says. Hope I'm wrong.
  11. What would it take to get Billy Butler out of KC?? They apparently want pitching back.
  12. I was thinking as I wrote it, how many times has some random guy posted a random unsubstantiated rumor that got everyone riled up and it actually turned out to be true? Never figured I'd do it. Glad it was true, pretty reasonable deal and no draft picks to give up! Yeah, nice call. I kinda, sorta questioned you last night. I stand corrected. Nicely done.
  13. Moving Weeks frees up money, but who is going to take him without us either paying a bunch of money or taking on a salary dump of theirs?
  14. Still not seeing it other than some twitter stuff. Nothing on mlbtraderumors or anything like that. Timing seems odd, as we would almost have to move a SP for a 1b now right? If that was the case, couldn't we have seen the writing on the walls for Garza before we signed Overbay/Reynolds?
  15. I know I'm in the minority, but I completely disagree with this. Your reasoning is probably true, I just don't feel like that's valid reasoning to retire a number. I don't feel that guys should have numbers retired based on the CITY they played in. Teams move, players move with them, they're still part of THAT franchise. It just so happened that the Braves moved during Aaron's career and after NINE seasons in Atlanta, he came back to Milwaukee (and a completely different team) for two mediocre seasons. That just doesn't warrant a Brewers number being retired. Again, I know I'm in the minority on this, but to me, retiring numbers belongs to the team/franchise and not the city. Sure, players and fans get attached to cities, but ultimately, if the franchise moves, so do the players/stats with it. And if you're retiring a number, it should be for contributions to YOUR franchise, not the city. Wrong on virtually all points. You had to be there to understand the emotion of the time. The Brave franchise was basically stolen from Milwaukee by a bunch of Chicago hotshots, not coincidentally who were neighbors of Cubs owner at the time. Don't think Aaron had connection to Milwaukee?? Read his book "I had a Hammer". The return of Aaron to Milwaukee on opening day 1975 literally had fans in tears. He meant that much and his hiatus in Atlanta from 66 to 74 hurt and to me still does. I was there on opening day 1975 and witnessed his next to last (no. 754) which was a walk off vs. Rangers. He points to that HR as being one of his most treasured. Braun blew his chance for number retirement with the PED scandal. Had he owned up to it, he'd have had it retired. Fielder walked away so end of discussion. Hoffman's time in Milwaukee was nothing more than a footnote to his career. Of course it it was up to me I wouldn't have retired Molitor's number either. It wasn't so much the act of signing elsewhere, but it was his signing with the only team to finish ahead of the Brewers the prior year, and then when they wanted him back later on, he went instead to the Twins. I'd have retired Jenkins before any of those. Not advocating that but he gutted it out for this franchise. How nice of you to tell me that my opinion is completely wrong just because I wasn't there. I realize most disagree with my view on it, but I don't appreciate being told that I'm flat out wrong, especially when the basis for it is that I'm either too young to understand or that I wasn't around to experience it. Experiencing it doesn't change my opinion that retired numbers are related to a franchise, not a city. I never once questioned Aaron's meaning and importance to the city of Milwaukee. The man is a legend and one of the best players of all time that was proud to call Milwaukee home. I get that. I do however really question his importance and contribution to the Brewers franchise themselves. Milwaukee as a city can do anything they want to honor the man (and they have), but if we're talking about a franchise retiring a number, IMO, that should be for contributions made to that team, not a team that has been moved to another city and is still in existence. And like I clearly stated, I know I'm in the minority on this, I'm just stating my opinion that retired numbers belong to franchises, not cities. If the Milwaukee Braves had simply folded or been abolished, that's one thing, but they simply just moved to another city and are still in existence. Same thing with guys like Spahn. If Milwaukee wants to honor him in some fashion, that's fine, but to retire a number of a player that never even played for the franchise just seems downright silly IMO.
  16. You may be right on Batista, I just wish they hadn't ruined it by bringing him back early. Granted, people likely would have found out beforehand, but why announce he's coming back and all that? Why not just have him show up at the RR? I also wish the Daniel Bryant/Wyatt storyline had carried on further, at least until the RR or Elimination Chamber. They did the storyline well, but it ended way too fast. That type of thing should have happened on a PPV.
  17. Huh. I don't know why we would do that for the price tag he's likely asking for. Can't find any whiff that we were even talking to him, other than a few messages boards in the last hour stating basically what you did.
  18. It's beyond terrible. It's just flat out embarrassing. Not only are they not playing defense, they aren't hustling or boxing out. It's like the winning got to their heads or something. That or it's taken this long for them to be exposed, but that seems unlikely given the quality non-conference schedule they played. Last three games defensively: Indiana - 52% shooting, 75 points Michigan - 55% shooting, 77 points Minnesota - 59% shooting, 81 points I didn't look up the paint points (and I didn't see the MI game due to a wedding) but in both the IU and MN games, they were getting into the lane, and in most cases, all the way to the hoop at will. It's tough to win when you the other team is taking 75% of their shots from within 2 feet, and when they do miss, you let them destroy you on the offensive glass. They better figure it out quick or this is going to be an EXTREMELY long conference season and a quick tourney exit. It's just hard to fathom how bad they are right now on the defensive end. Tonight they looked completely outplayed and outhustled on both ends of the floor.
  19. 20. Yeah, because he was the only guy in the Hall of Fame from that era who did cocaine, right? Kinda like most players in this era are "probably" using some form of PED?
  21. Not to change the discussion, but why is everyone ok with Hank Aaron (and his two very poor seasons with the Brewers), but not ok with Fingers? Aaron as a Brewer hit .232 with 22 homeruns. Granted, he was in his 40's, but those numbers are pretty bad. I know he spent a lot of time in Milwaukee, but those years were all with the Braves. I know Aaron is looked at as a legend and one of the best ever, but his time with the Brewers was terrible. From a sheer stats standpoint, Fingers was way, way more deserving than Aaron.
  22. My guess is they retire Hoffman's number. He will be a HOF player that played for us, and did have one pretty good season. Given the fact that we have very few retired numbers, I think it's due to happen. He also was very well liked and respected here, whereas Sheffield is despised by almost everyone. I think Prince probably, Braun....I dunno. His numbers will certainly warrant it, I just wonder how bad the stain of the suspension is going to last.
  23. That's a win Marquette absolutely have to have. Maybe that can get them going a little. Another chance to get going with #4 Villanova coming into town, though that game loses some luster after the beating they took last night. That was crazy.
  24. The outside shooting of IU was a non-factor, because they could get to the hoop any time they wanted. And of course, they did make 2 threes in the last ten minutes too, which didn't help. Just have to move past it. Game they probably should have won, but hopefully they learn from it and move on. They have to keep guards out of the lane or that's going to be exploited a ton in the last two months of the season.
  25. For food downtown, there are a TON of good burger places. My two favorites are Sobelman's and Stacked. There's a ton of others though, what type of food are you looking for? Anything in particular? As far as the stadium, you're probably about 10 minutes away, depending on traffic.
