  1. Ugly game last night, but it was good to see that they could play a lower scoring game and play some defense. That's going to be a high quality resume building win come March I think. Virginia was ranked 26th coming into last night. If they beat Marquette, their next three games are Milwaukee, Eastern Kentucky and Prairie View A&M, all at home. They should be heavy favorites and will all those games. Considering they're already ranked 8/9, they could very easily be approaching the top 5 when conference play starts. How about UNC last night? I can't figure that team out. Wins over Louisville and MSU, but a home loss to Belmont and a loss to UAB?
  2. The Knicks are a complete and utter joke. Which I love. I love how they tried to form a super team with Anthony forcing his way there, only for them to completely suck. It's hilarious. Of course, if the Knicks are that high in the lottery, the NBA will almost certainly "let" them win it. As far as Giannias goes, he's looked surprisingly good considering where he played last year. I think they should keep him around 15-20 minutes a game. I think that's plenty as he still has lots to learn and work on. I saw yesterday that he's actually grown an inch since the draft and likely will grow another 2-3 years and end up right around 7 feet tall. That would be amazing if he can keep the ball handling skills and shooting with that height. I was awfully critical when we drafted him, but I've liked what I've seen so far. And if he can develop nicely in the next 2-3 years alongside our hopefully top 3 draft pick, we might be on to something. Maybe.
  3. This should be a good test for the Badgers. It's basically their first road game of the year (they played at GB, but there were plenty of Badger fans there). It's a quality opponent on the road, one that will likely be ranked by the end of the season. it would be a nice quality resume building road win if they can get it. While the Big Ten hasn't faired well so far this year in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, I still think the Big Ten is fully loaded and will likely be the best league in the country. 3 teams in the top ten, 2 more in the top 25 and a solid middle with Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota.
  4. The thing that's really, really sad, is that as bad as the Bucks have been (2-11, only Utah worse at 2-14), is that the Bucks are only 3 games back of the 8 seed in the East (granted, there are 7 teams in between them) and only 4.5 games back of the 4 seed. The NBA and specifically the Eastern Conference, is loaded with just some really bad, bad teams this year. And as we all know, the Bucks have historically been stupid enough to push all in to get the 8 seed, regardless of what it means for the future. I can only hope they continue to get destroyed that the hole becomes impossible large, but I don't see that happening.
  5. I under stand bringing Giannis along slowly, but there is simply no justification for him not getting at least 5-10 minutes of action in every game. The Bucks are currently 2-8, second worst record in the NBA and they have just been flat out terrible lately. Simply no reason to not allow the young guys to play, aside from the Hammond mandate that we're trying to win.
  6. Provus was average at best I thought. Though it was weird to actually see him and hear him talking about basketball. I think this Badgers team will have the ability to play both types of games - the Florida game was a lot slower with more of a grind it out type of attack, whereas last night, they were getting and hitting open shots and ND really was pushing the tempo. I'd rather they dictated the tempo a bit more, but it's nice to see them open it up from time to time. Kaminsky looked great last night, but in the second half he had a major, major advantage inside and to his credit, he exploited it almost every time he touched the ball. We'll see if he can do anything similar against better inside competition. It was cool of Bo to put him back in when he learned he was a point short of the record too. Hard to believe that with all the guys they've had (Harris, Tucker, Taylor, Finley) that Frank Kaminksy has that record. Koening has looked great in his limited minutes, and if he can play defense and not turn it over, I really think he's going to steal a ton of minutes from Gasser and/or Jackson. Jackson has had a ton of turnovers and questionable plays and Gasser just doesn't look that good to me.
  7. Well in fairness to the Giants, they just got rid of the Zito contract fiasco....might as well replace it with another horrible contract.
  8. Does every 20 pack get a bobblehead or was it just for a certain number that renewed first? I renewed mine before the deadline but it was later than normal.
  9. MU didn't exactly look so good against OSU. Maybe just a fluke bad game, but they had issues shooting last year too. They just completely went away from Gardner too, which made little sense to me. I was a tad frustrated by the officiating. As with most games I've watched, if you go to the hoop, you'll get a foul called more often than not with the new rules. MU was attacking all game and wasn't rewarded for it much. Maybe it was great defense, but it sure seemed like they should have gotten to the line more. Badgers got a tough road win at GB (who I think will win the Horizon League) but they fought back from 7 down in the second half to get the win. Struggled mightly in the last 3 minutes but managed to hang on. I think they're over-rated being in the top 12-15 in the polls, but they're off to a solid start once again.
  10. I was there, and I didn't mind the intro. I liked the lights off, could have done without the dry ice stuff. That was a tad over the top for me too. UW should be fine, though the lack of size is very concerning. Just how bad is Evan Anderson that he can't even sniff the court with his size?
  11. If Kohl really believes that this is a winning team and they wind up with one of the 5 worst records, Hammond has to be fired. I sure hope so at least. To me, he's clearly proven he isn't capable of handling the job. Fire him, bring in a new GM and let him make the draft pick.
  12. I got tickets to the UW-Florida game a long time ago so I'll be seeing that one in person - almost wish I hadn't as I'd love to watch the MSU/Kentucky and Kansas/Duke games. Should be an exciting night!! I love it when the top teams schedule each other.
  13. The T-Shirts aren't overly creative, but it's something different and something I think people will use/enjoy a lot more than a bobblehead. Everyone needs a t-shirt to have around, even the not so big into baseball people. Back in college, I went to the games on Friday nights and got shirts in the bleachers that I STILL wear, so I'm pretty happy with a free t-shirt or two. If you figure even a low quality shirt that it'll likely be still costs say $10-15 at Kohls or another store, it's an awfully good value as a giveaway item.
  14. Orlando on the road, the night after playing in Miami...I'm going to go ahead and call that a loss. I think this is definitely an 0-4 stretch. Don't forget about Dallas this past Saturday as well, that's about as tough a stretch as you'll find. And I fully expect (hope) to lose them all.
  15. I'm in Waukesha, and there is 1/2 an inch to an inch on the ground here. Snowed, mainly flurries it seemed, for over 2 hours.
  16. Except for the stretch last year where he was perfect in saves and gave up one run in 25 or so innings.... And not everyone wants a young guy at closer. Contending teams might want someone with experience at the back of their bullpen.
  17. It's so weird for me watching the Bucks this year. I can't actively root against them, but I really believe they're much better off losing as many games as possible this year. So I find myself watching and my heart tells me to cheer for them, while my brain tells me not to, that with each loss, our future can maybe get better.
  18. Would K-Rod really come back if we don't give him the closers role? Not sure what the plan there is, if Henderson is the guy or not, but I don't see K-Rod going anywhere that doesn't offer him a closers job - unless he has no offers I guess.
  19. John Henson playing only 17 minutes irritates me too.
  20. The only thing that makes top FA come to any WI sports team is always the same....WINNING. The Packers didn't really get anyone until they started turning things around (and White getting "guidance"). I think lots of FA would come to the Packers, if Ted actually tried. The Brewers, while we haven't been able to afford any top tier guys, we have signed some decent ones like Wolf, Lohse, Cameron, etc. Free agents aren't going to come to a state with poor weather and poor fan bases (Bucks mainly), unless they really, truely get overpaid, or feel they have a legit shot to win (and sometimes then that isn't enough).
  21. As somewhat critical of instant replay as I've been as I think they'll use it too much, is is an absolute must on scoring plays, especially in extra innings. Cardinals just got an out at the plate, the ball beat the Dodger runner just ahead of a collision, Molina's glove (with ball in it), never gets within 8-10 inches of the runner, as the runner actually hit Molina's side and his arms and the glove went opposite the runner. It really wasn't close, the ump was right there, calls him out. He was in the perfect spot, looking right at it, and still calls him out. Molina's arm is not the same as the glove. Clear as day to me on replay, just like it should have been to the umpire.
  22. At least the Bucks have the one title, albeit a long time ago. There are still plenty of teams without any. And yes, they will suck this year regardless of who plays, just a matter of how much.
  23. Why is it always hitters that seem to be the problem? How is a batter watching his HR for a second or two really any different than a pitcher pumping his fist after a strikeout or shooting arrows into the sky after a save? Aren't those things showing up the hitter and the other team? Why is that ok but if I hit a HR and stand for a second or two, I'm a jag who needs to get plunked or whatever. Seems like a total double standard to me.
  24. Unless they think Aoki can play CF (I don't), Schaefer has to make the roster. Sure, they can bring in other OF's too, but if we're only talking about in house options, Schaefer is the only one that can backup Gomez in CF, so he's going to make the roster as OF #5. Which is fine, he plays plus defense at all 3 spots. But they aren't going to go into the season with only one guy on the roster who can play CF.
  25. I completely agree with the point on this but in this case, I think he was just barely out. Tag was applied just before his left hand hit the base. It's one of my pet peeves so I went back to watch it numerous times. I just completely disagree with this. The right call should be made, period. So a game is 3 hours and 10 minutes instead of 3 hours? Big deal and a small price to pay for knowing the right call was made or at least looked at if there's no evidence to overturn it. The more replay, the better in my opinion. If it's an extra ten minutes, that's fine. But I just don't believe that will be the case. I think each challenge is going to take a minimum of 3-5 minutes. You could have as many as 6-8 or more in any one game. Granted, some games may have one or two and they may get the challenge wrong, but I think as a rule, it's going to take longer than 10 minutes per game to figure it out. Guess we'll find out. But there's a reason the NFL only allows limited challenges, even if they get them right. Length of game is important.
