  1. MLB Now just ran a LONG segment on the whole thing. They all said Cole was clearly out of line. Then they showed THREE different Pirates (Martin, Tabita and McCutchen) doing the EXACT same thing, in the SAME series....on balls that didn't leave the yard. In fact, Martin stood LONGER than Gomez did by quite a noticeable nature. MLB Network guys didn't condone Gomez, but they all said Cole was definitely in the wrong and that the Pirates really had no right to be upset by Gomez based on how their own players reacted and how today's game is played.
  2. MLB network is saying that the suspensions/fines won't come out until tomorrow, as the umpires are traveling and can't get their reports to MLB executives until tonight. The last one I remember blatantly hitting someone on purpose was McClung hitting Pujols and putting his arms up on the mound as if saying "come on, let's go".

  4. Cole definitely swore at Gomez, you can hear it in the Pirates broadcast of the fight. Either he's lying or doesn't remember but he definitely dropped an F bomb. And Gomez gets up saying "what" like he maybe misheard or something. And then Snider started the fight. Gomez needs to keep his cool, but we have no idea what was said or what he heard. There are certainly things that I certainly would react to regardless of the situation.
  5. Makes sense, Wooten pitched quite a bit this weekend and likely couldn't go today. His option for this year has already been used so sending him down doesn't cost much. Relief corps really need that off day on Thursday. And be nice to get the starters to cover 7-8 innings the next few games.
  6. Both players are going to appeal any suspension, especially Gomez for sure. I don't know how long that appeals process takes, but if Schafer is only on the DL for the minimum 15 days, the appeals process might stretch long enough for him to be back. Then you'd have Herrera as the backup and you're ok there. Bianchi could also go to the OF if absolutely necessary for one game. As far as catcher goes...it really depends on how long it is. If it's 1-2 games, I think the Brewers just go with one and hope for the best. I believe Herrera and Bianchi would be the emergency catchers. Anything longer than that and they'll have to make a move. I haven't heard anything about Gorzy even getting close to coming back, so that would be easy enough to get a 40 man spot. But even still, someone has to go down....who? There really aren't any clear options that won't leave us woefully short at another position - it would almost have to be Weeks I think.
  7. That Tabata video is pretty similar. Both did a bat flip. Gomez stood and watched his, while Tabata kinda moved a few feet, but definitely watching the ball before he took off running. Honestly, put them side by side and there's just not much different. Oh, and Tabata's ball didn't leave the yard either. I didn't see any Brewers act like whiney little girls about it. And Chipper Jones really just needs to shut up. You're not involved in any way, why open your mouth? And BS about the admiring stuff. In his whole career, there had to be balls that he thought he crushed and watched, only to have it not leave the yard.
  8. I wrote this in the IGT but I think the "unwritten rules" are a joke. It's a game. There's no "right" way to play it. It's one thing to blatantly show bad sportsmanship, but this is a game. It's for entertainment value. As someone else said, why is it only baseball that has a problem with it? NFL players dance after sacks and TD's. Soccer plays do just flat out crazy things after scoring goals. NBA players raise 3 fingers and whatnot when they hit shot. In MLB...you watch a ball that you hit for let's say 1-2 seconds, or you do a bat flip, and suddenly you're showing up the opponents and it causes ridiculousness. It's not a problem in other sports. For what happened today and in the Braves game, Gomez may as well have crotch chopped toward the mound or flipped him them the bird. That warrants getting upset. Watching a ball for a couple seconds is nothing compared to other sports. And also as someone mentioned, it's amazing how the media calls it charisma or whatever for some guys (Puig, Soriano, etc) but when certain players do it, like Gomez it becomes an issue. The Pirates also took issue with Braun a few years back, and that was on a walk off in a pennant race. Grow up. If you don't like it, play better. Don't get frustrated because you gave up a triple in the third inning of a 0-0 game. Gomez lost it (we don't know what was said) but Cole went out of his way to yell at him and really ignited the entire thing. And it probably would have ended at shouting if Snider doesn't come out and act the way that he does.
  9. This is a pretty valid point. Take the NFL for example. Guy gets a sack...gets up and does some sort of weird dance move (Jarred Allen for example). Or does a grave digging motion. Right in front of the QB and the oline guys he just beat. Or a WR leaps and catches a TD. Spikes the ball right in the DB face. Nothing happens. In baseball, a guy WATCHES the ball he hit, and that's grounds for fights, beanball wars, etc? It makes no sense. It's not like Gomez hit the ball, looked out at Cole and crotch chopped him or anything. He stood and watched his ball....for a second or two.
  10. Gomez: "I'm not apologizing for nothing I did today. This is my job, I've been doing it for eight years like that. They know I play like that. It's not to disrespect nobody," Gomez said, reported Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. "I heard something I don't like. I don't think [Cole's] the one who tells me what I have to do. I don't tell him what he needs to do to pitch." He also made statements that other guys watch it and nobody cares - even pointed out 3 different examples of Pirates that did it in the series. Gomez flips his bat quite often, it's just what he does. And even if he WAS admiring it, it was only a second or two. Watch Ortiz or Soriano or Pujols. They stare down every deep fly ball, even the ones that are caught. Soriano goes to an extreme and NOTHING is ever said or done about it. What Gomez did was really quite minimal. You can see something like that or worst on probably 50% of the HR in the league. Yet when him or Braun do it, immediate jerks. Cole: 'If you're going to hit a home run, you can watch it. If you're going to hit a fly ball to center field, don't watch it," per MLB.com. "I didn't curse at him, I didn't try to provoke a fight. I was frustrated, and I let my emotions get the better of me and I ended up getting one of my teammates hurt, so I'm not too thrilled about it." So let me get this straight on three levels. 1 - You're in a 0-0 game in the third inning...you're pitching well. Gomez hits a triple and you get frustrated. He wasn't getting shelled. There hadn't been 3 errors in the inning. Gomez was only the second base runner of the game I believe. That's all it takes to frustrate you? Maybe you're frustrated by your pitch but that's your own problem. 2 - You aren't trying to start a fight. You got the ball, the proceeded to GO OUT OF YOUR WAY to approach Gomez. Yelled directly at him. Nobody knows what was said (but Gomez said he used the F word). How is that not trying to start something? You approached someone and yelled that them, what exactly did you think Gomez was going to do? 3 - Cole DID instigate the fight, then as soon as he saw Gomez was fired up and yelled back, Cole basically ran away and hid behind all of his teammates. In no way do I promote physical violence on the playing field, but if you're going to get frustrated and yell at an opposing player like that, at least be a big enough man to stand your ground if that player gets upset by your verbal abuse. Don't go hide behind your teammates, especially when you have a pretty large size advantage. Oh and I just saw this from Russell Martin...you stay classy Mr. Martin: Russell Martin: "The fair thing would be for our team to hold down Maldonado so Travis (Snider) can go back and sucker punch him in the face"
  11. Second round picks are usually useless and often times don't even make rosters or get contracts. But when you're the worst team in the NBA, it's a super deep draft and you have 2 of the first 5 picks in the second round...that's a good thing. Now let's hope they fire Hammond so we can have a competent GM making the selections.
  12. With all the guys declaring early, this is a super deep draft. With having the first pick of round 2, we should definitely get a first round talent there. Might not be a star player, but certainly one that can contribute.
  13. That is a nice article. The part about the Braves ticks me off though. The fact that he gets all the blame for that is ridiculous. Look at guys like Bonds, Pujols and many others. They watch their HR's in that same fashion every single time they hit one. Gomez does it once, gets yelled at, yells back and then has McCann pull the ultimate d-bag move (IMO) and gets away with it scott free. Not to rehash that, but in all the baseball I've watched, that is the one and only time I've ever seen a catcher start a fight with a runner like that - and people just look at it like he did absolutely nothing wrong and it's all Gomez's fault. I'm just begging for someone to drill McCann right in the back this year. That said, Gomez has really emerged and is as exciting as just about anyone in the game.
  14. I believe it's 3 days. Daniel Murphy of the Mets took the full 3 days at the beginning of the year and the media ripped him a new one for not suiting up the day after his healthy baby was born. I took two weeks off when my kids were born, granted I'm not a MLB player, but 3 days is really not that long considering the first 2 (and maybe 3) are spent in the hospital.
  15. Two things... 1 - I've said for years and years that bars and restaurants would make an absolute killing being on the fringes of the lots. In the big general parking, there are a bunch of abandoned buildings just begging to be torn down. It gives people an outlet after the game and it's an alternative to tailgating when the weather is bad or whatever. The lack of anywhere to really go when a game ends is baffling - the Bluemound bars aren't overly far, but I would hardly call that close by either. 2- Parking lot bathrooms. I've put this on my season ticket survey every single year. There simply are not nearly enough bathrooms in the parking lot. Either add a bunch more portajohns, or as someone mentioned, build some permanent structures out there with BIG bathrooms. When you only get 3 hours to tailgate for most games (and this assumes you get there right when it opens), and then you have to spend 30+ minutes waiting in line for a bathroom (on busy days), there's obviously a huge problem. It leads to tons of guys just peeing in the woods or even just peeing right in the lot. Something needs to happen here. As far as MP itself, I say it probably has at least 20 years left. At that point, maybe renovations, but I think it's a long, long time before we're talking about a brand new stadium.
  16. Who was advocating cutting Yo last season??? He struggled some sure, but I don't think anyone was willing to just dump him because he was having his first bad season. Gallardo had been very solid up to that point, was likely messed up by the WBC and just never got it together but I don't recall anyone saying we should cut him. He also wasn't completely terrible and wasn't essentially wasting a 25 man roster spot. Weeks has proven over the last 3 years that he's just simply not good any more. It's bad enough that in most games, when he PH for Gennett, they then replace him with Bianchi so he doesn't have to play defense. And he's not hitting....again. Plus we're handicapping ourselves with two 2b only on the roster. It makes no sense.
  17. I doubt the Poto location happens, but I don't think $50 million is far fetched at all. If they get the arena anywhere close to the casino, it's going to bring in a TON of money. Think about all the people that will flock to the casino before/after the game, possibly stay in the hotel, etc. It might even open up the possibility of more bars and other things in that area, which just generates even more traffic for the casino. It likely won't happen, but it's not like they don't have the money or the land.
  18. Something is going to have to happen. We can't continue to get buy with 4 guys that can only play 1b and 2b. Especially with the Braun thumb situation, we can't have a game with no backup OF (Overbay does NOT count). Herrera seems ideal, though even Green would be sufficient too. I'd honestly like to see both Weeks and Overbay gone, with Green and Herrera brought up, but that's not going to happen.
  19. They could change that with the placement of the new Bucks arena. There is lots of space around the casino (and they own all the land), plus it's relatively close to MP. I don't know if the NBA allows it, but getting Poto involved as a sponsor would seem to be the best case scenario. They have land, unlimited resources basically and room to expand by building restuarants, bars, etc (plus the hotel is there and it's close enough to MP to sort of build up a district). Sell them the naming rights and whatnot, and work out some sort of deal and go from there. I don't see it happening, not sure if that's even allowable. There aren't a lot of great locations for it open downtown, especially with anything around it from a social perspective. $200 million is a nice start, but they have a ways to go. Even assuming they can get $50 million for naming rights, that's still only halfway there. I thought I read that the MP stadium board has the ability to extend the sales tax and give the money to the Bucks without a public vote needed - that this was in the language when it passed last time - anyone confirm this? As I stated before, I'm begging for their first to be the canning of Hammond.
  20. Can't really complain much about going 11-4 to start the year, especially given the teams we've faced to this point. That said, the pitching can't keep this up forever and we're going to need the bats to get going or we'll be in a slide sooner or later. The pitching has been pretty darn good though, awfully impressive...pretty much the entire roster. Other than Duke, who I just strongly dislike.
  21. Yeah, that's a nice win. Give us some momentum, keeps us 2 games in front. Our pitching has been awesome, hopefully the offense can come around as to me a lot of the offense is really struggling - Segura, Davis, Braun (two hot games but otherwise pretty bad), pretty much all the backups are off to rough starts as well.
  22. And here we go, just like that the tying run is on deck...
  23. Take the one run, but really missed a chance to put the game away, even a sac fly or two there likely would have done it.
  24. Kelly hurt his hamstring on the bunt attempt apparently. As far as it not being on TV, their contract with FSN is only for roughly 150 games...almost all of which wind up being weekday games. Just the way it goes...I think it's pretty common. Most teams other than the super big markets don't televise every game. Not sure if that's just to give the crew a day off or what but that's the way it's been for the Brewers and FSN for as long as I can remember.
