  1. Melvin gets a lot of flack about the Hardy move, but people seem to forget that he sucked pretty bad on the Twins too, and he again couldn't stay healthy. They got rid of him too...
  2. There are much bigger concerns than 1B presently I think....like 2b.
  3. 18 times in 35 games is just pathetic. Sure, good pitching happens time to time. But with the players on this roster, that is completely and utterly pathetic. I'm starting to blame RR. Yeah, the lineup is underperforming in most cases, but leaving Morgan/Weeks at the top is just stupid at this point. Put Lucroy second and bat Weeks 7th. Why is it so hard for him to figure that out?
  4. Even if it was not intentional, it isn't going to take long for the catcher to figure out that the situation suggested otherwise. I don't think his reaction is evidence, either way. Maybe, maybe not. I guess it's hard to tell either way. But with how quickly he got up and tried to get in front of Braun, it sure looked like he was expecting it and was ready if need be. Just how I viewed it when it happened and seeing it on replay. It's just another piece of circumstancial evidence that seems to point to intentional to me.
  5. I just don't buy the argument that it was an accident. Yes, he didn't throw it at him in the air. But he could have thrown his helmet and made his point literally anywhere else on the field. Instead he spikes it three feet in front of the umpire, aimed directly at him. This should be harsh, but I doubt it will be. Yeah, it was a bad call, but that doesn't mean you can just go ballistic on the field and throw things at umpires and throw a tantrum like a little girl. Argueing is one thing, throwing things like that is just ridiculous in my opinion.
  6. Tough to retaliate after the warnings are issued, as you are likely looking at a suspension then. That being said, I thought it was pretty bush league of the Mets. If you didn't hit Braun on purpose as you claim, there was no reason to pull your top 2 hitters out of the game next half inning. Giving Wright rest, sure, but teams almost always let a player hit, then pull him the next half inning. By all accounts, it sure looked like they drilled Braun on purpose. The catcher immediately got up to confront Braun, like he knew it was coming. If you're not expecting a guy to get drilled, you don't immediately spring to your feet to try to calm him down, you just let him go to first. It was a pitch right after a HR, and it was up and in. Oh and it's Braun at the plate. That's an awful lot of coincidences to be an accident. Then you basically confirm it by pulling your best players. Don't hit people on purpose if you're too scared that they MIGHT throw back at you. I hope when the Mets come here that someone drills Wright. They got by one game, but this isn't something that will be forgotten.
  7. His OBP is still ok (thought not for someone in the top 2 of the lineup), but his pure batting numbers are horrendous. His OBP is still 50 points under his career numbers. But despite the fact that he's on base sometimes, he just simply can't hit. It would be bad enough batting 8th, but being first or second just magnifies it. Aside from the .157 average, he's slugging .289 for the year, and has a grand total of ONE extra base hit in the last 15 games (a double) and only 1 HR since the 4th game of the year. I don't think there is much over-reaction, as that is flat out bad. Yes, I'll say there are certainly other problems, but trotting Weeks out there every day at the top of the order is a huge problem in my opinion, far beyond just simply his very marginal .308 OBP.
  8. It would sure seem that they fired him because the disagreed with their stance and followed protocol as he is supposed to do as an independant party. I mean, the NFL didn't fire Das, he's hearing the "bounty gate" stuff. So he's still good enough for NFL, but not MLB? If anything I would say that this showed just how good Das was at his job, that he went against the grain and ruled to what he believes is the right way, despite the obvious pressure from MLB to do otherwise. I just can't get over how bad MLB is making themselves look here. They lost their first case ever. They whined and whined about it how they disagreed, but the fact is, he is an independant party doing his job. They then wait a few months and promptly fire him.
  9. I'm starting to lose hope that he stays past this year. I felt really good about it in spring and now for whatever reason, I feel the exact opposite.
  10. This just screams sour grapes to me. He's been in this role almost 2 decades and by all accounts, has done a great job. He's supposed to look at everything objectively and the one time he rules against MLB (which by all accounts was probably the right decision), they promptly fire him. It's fine to disagree with his decision if you want, but to fire the guy over properly enforcing a chain of command issue and then pouting about it is a joke. I wish the players union would call them out on it but that will never happen. It just makes them look really poor in my opinion. He's great until he doesn't agree with us 10000% of the time, then he's useless and fired.
  11. Strikes out the side...wow. Too bad we don't have the lead, as I'd love for him to go back out in the 9th. Now get him the lead, just hate to waste an outing like that.
  12. Runs would sure help. Seems like at least twice a week we have wasted a great outing by a starter because our offense is just inept. The Reds could have walked Izturis to get Greinke out of the game, but figured why bother? Izturis is an auto-out.... Greinke at 91 pitches...hope he has one more strong inning in him.
  13. Couldn't agree more. It was one thing when Izturis was the only other real 2b on the roster. I'd rather have Weeks struggle than watch Izturis have to bat. However, now with Conrad and Green available, it makes no sense to send him out there to go 0-4 every day. Especially with the day off tomrrow.
  14. Surprised Braun is in, sounded like they may give him a day to rest his achilles. Nice to see Green at first base.
  15. I don't understand the Cena situation. He gave that speech after the Lesnar match, and the fans actually seemed realy receptive to it. Perfect time to let him go film a movie or whatever he needed to do. Instead, that speech basically gets erased, as he's on Raw the next night and now is going to fight Lauranitis? Seriously? Bryan vs Punk should be great. Punk has had the title closing in on a year now, it's one of the logger WWE title runs in recent memory as it seems they think that belt is more of a joke these days and needs to be passed all over the place.
  16. Can Ramirez play 1b? Why not Taylor Green at 3b and Ramirez at 1b? Then with a tough lefty, Ramirez back to third, Conrad or Hart at first? Seems like there are so many better ways to handle this that don't involve Ishikawa getting to play regularily.
  17. Kottaras can play 1b can't he? I would really like them to bring up a third catcher and let him get some starts at 1b, along with Hart and the OCCASIONAL start there by Ishikawa. Him playing everyday at 1b leaves much to be desired in my opinion.
  18. I'll Pass on Derek Lee. I might ask him to sign on our AAA team to see what he has. But to have him come in and hit a double play every day doesn't sound like a good time to me. I would prefer to just let Ishikawa, Kottaras and Conrad play the spot. (I do hope Kottaras gets some starts there. Maybe he has never played it though?) In a month if that isn't working, I would prefer Hart to be moved there and then let Aoki, Morgan and Gomez play CF/RF. or Even call up Taylor Green and see if he can play 1B. Ishikawa is hitting into plenty of double plays himself and Lee was at one point a much better player and is probably a gold golve caliber 1b. Though you might be right...he might be done. Who knows. I really dislike Ishikawa and feel he never should have been on the roster so I want that fixed. Him playing every day is a joke. I really wanted them to bring up a third catcher and let Kottaras get starts at 1b, with Hart playing when tough lefties are on the mound or when Kottaras needs to catch for Wolf.
  19. Balls and strikes are one thing, but to call him out on a play where his foot is at least a foot away from first base when he catches the ball is pretty ridiculous. As a first base ump, that is really your only job on that play, watch the base for the defenders foot, the runners foot and listen for the ball. Wow is that bad.
  20. Derek Lee...it's the Brewers calling. Feel like being our starting 1b the rest of the year?
  21. Do they still have the radio clips on JSO somewhere? I can't seem to find them for this year and I wanted to hear the HR calls from last night.
  22. It makes virtually no sense for Estrada to start. That weakens the pen quite a bit and moves other guys into roles they shouldn't be. The pen could have been left alone and Peralta should be starting. He's a starter, our top prospect and he's been kept in AAA so Estrada can start games? It makes no sense.
  23. I've said it before and I'll continue to say it that I just don't simply think RR is that great of a manager. He might motivate his players and think outside the box sometimes, which I like, but he consistently does things that makes it MORE difficult for us to win games. And often times last year it seemed like we won despite his decisions and manuevers, not because of them.
  24. I would have rather seen Greinke or Gallardo PH there instead of Izturis. At least one of them could leave the yard. Not sure if that should be in blue or not....
  25. Izturis. Nice move Ron. Nice move. I don't care if it would have worked (which stunningly, it didn't), but that was arguably the WORST move he could have made. Ishikawa isn't great against lefties, but he's got to be better than Izturis would have been. Not to mention that Izturis has zero power and we were down 2 with 2 outs already. And on top of that, we have 2 other lefties on the bench that can hit lefties pretty well in Aoki and Gamel. If you insist on PH use one of them, don't put in one of the worst offensive players in all of baseball.
