  1. Ellis can really, really score the ball. He is averaging 22 PPG this year, 19.6 in his career. Along with 6 assists. How he meshes with Skiles...not so sure. But Skiles might be gone next year. Jennings and Ellis together could be really exciting. Huge void in the middle, but we have that normally with Bogut usually injured. Udoh is still really young and very athletic. Brown is a turd and was only salary cap evener and has just this year left. Plus Jackson is now gone. I like the trade, but it's not great. Bogut's value just simply isn't that valuable due to all his injuries I feel. It does save lots of money next year but I don't know who would actually come here.
  2. This is correct, each individual conference can do whatever they want. Your two examples are perfect - Ivy League doesn't have a tournament (they do have a playoff though if they tie) and the Big Ten was one of the last conference to adapt a tournament. So it's up to the conferences, but they all make quite a bit of money from the tournaments and without the auto-bid on the line, there would be very little interest in them outside of the major conferences. I don't see much changing.
  3. The argument I hear is that the auto-bid should go to the outright league regular season champion. For a lot of smaller conferences, this assures that their absolute best team makes it in and has the greatest chance of an upset. Often times in a smaller conference the best team can lose in the tournament and get left out (like for example Iona this year). If there is a tie, then do a playoff like the Ivy league does to determine who gets in. I don't think conferences will do it though because they lose all that money and excitement the league tournament generates, not to mention it's likely the only time all season some of the conferences get on ESPN and have a national audience. Jay Bilas likes to think that the best 68 teams don't include some of these "lesser" conference teams, but to me thats not right. Every one and again one of them DOES win a game and thats why everyone loves March Madness. Not to mention that if those schools don't have autobids, what do the kids really have to play for? For a tiny school, just making the dance is a dream normally, why take that away just so more crappy big conference teams can get in and be mediocre?
  4. It could be either. It could be something that really shows Braun is innocent and he wants to release it but MLB wants to stand by the testing and throw Braun under the bus (as they already have). Or it could be that he did get off entirely based on the handling of his sample and maybe Braun doesn't want that out there. People think it, but many still think there is more we don't know either and maybe he wants to keep it that way. In either case, I think at some point some of it will be released.
  5. Philly I understand, but why do you think that about St. Louis? Me and 5 buddies go see the Brewers somewhere every year and it's the Cardinal trip this year, so just curious if you know something or whatever. We got some smack in Boston and LA, but just the usual stuff. Never felt threatened or anything, though we said very little in reply. I don't get the need for the insults personally, but thats how it goes unfortunately.
  6. Gardner seemed to have a slight limp pretty much the whole time. Still was effective but he was either real tentative or not close to 100%. Not sure why he wasn't wearing a brace? As far as the game not being on, that made no sense. I got it in the sports package, but to have 2 top 12 teams playing and not be on (and Cincy/Villanova was) made very little sense at all.
  7. Well that answers a question for me. It's not a matter of trying to "reseal" the cup after it was tampered with. The guy has access to other cups, lids, seals, etc. So if he did this as stated above (not saying he did) but if it was the case, the seals the lab gets would be absolutely perfect. Because he sealed the contaiminated portion with a brand new cup/seal. At that point it's just a matter of the signature, a signature that won't be perfect as it's likely a carbon copy and it's a pro baseball player so it's really just a scribble. Again, he might not have, but this would be VERY easy for him if he was motivated to do so. He has the urine, he knows who it's from, he has extra seals and everything needed to make it look legit. Again, not saying he did, but the fact that he had it for 44 hours, him and his son knew who the sample belonged to...it's certainly not entirely impossible to think that something could have happened during that timeframe.
  8. How heavy are they? I like how it looks, but I'd want to hang mine somewhere. I already have a huge shelf area full of bobbles and signed balls and whatnot and I'm out of room, but it would need to be hung on the wall. And obviously that falling would be a huge disaster.
  9. The thing that gets me is that the guy just put the sample in his basement. Not in a fridge or a climate controlled area. I don't know about everyone else, but the temp in my basement flucuates quite a bit day to day. The heat drops in the house at night, the basement gets colder when it's much colder outside, etc. Not to mention, it's not exactly in the 40 degree range that a sample should be stored at. I'm not an expert on this by any means, but I would sure think that those conditions - changing temps for 2+ days probably aren't good for a urine sample.
  10. As far as the accuracy of Passan's sources go, he reported as a fact that the collector stored the samples in a temperature controlled container in his basement. Incorrect. Refuted by the collector's own statement today. Samples were stored in a tupperware container on a desk. This is an important detail. So if he got this wrong, I wonder how reliable his other sources are. Anyone have time to throw this back in Passan's face? I'd love to but work is rough this week. I'd love to see his response.
  11. That would make so much more sense to me. Demonstrating how the handling of the sample could cause a false test would give me reason to give Braun the benefit of the doubt. I would guess they had to test part of the sample immediately to show it was clean first, then test the rest of the sample after replicating the conditions it sat in between the time Braun submitted it to the time it was tested in Montreal. Also if that is in fact the case, I could understand why MLB would want to repress that information from ever getting out. This to me seems weird. I'll buy everything here, other than Braun agreeing to not release that data. If this is in fact completely true, it would go a long, long way to dispell the notion that he is guilty. Why wouldn't Braun want that public? I still hope at some point the written part of the ruling gets released somehow and we can really see what the deal is.
  12. That's the thing about the seals. Unless they were just blatantly tampered with, the people at the testing agency aren't going to look at them twice. They may go through a checklist or something on each one (I doubt it) but they aren't examining each one with a magnifying glass or anything. On top of that, when they get it, it's sample number 123456. They test hundreds of samples a day I presume. If 2-3 weeks later, or even 2-3 days later someone came to me and said "was sample 123456" seal ok? How could I possibly remember that? I probably didn't even look at it closely at all. So of course I'm going to say yes, as I'm supposed to be checking that stuff, but there is no possible way I can remember a numbered container out of the hundreds/thousands I have seen/done since that day.
  13. Just a typical week for the Badgers. Again show that they beat or lose to just about anyone. We need that Rob Wilson to show up for every game, maybe he can be another scoring option the team desperately needs come tournament time.
  14. I would imagine that makes it a lawyer or a close personal friend. Pretty terrible either way as it's ruined his reputation probably forever. If it's a lawyer, I'd imagine thats completely agains the confidentiality agreement. If it's a friend, that's pretty sad. Basically ruined one of your "friends" careers to make a few bucks. Maybe they assumed he'd be suspended and it wouldn't matter, but that really should make no difference. Not at least when I think of a friend.
  15. Good article. This guy is a blogger and writer for the Dodgers and seems legit. The comments section was really solid It is a good article, the problem is, as the blogger says....nobody is reading those articles and nobody is talking about it in any way shape or form, which is making Braun out to be guilty. Makes no sense to me at all.
  16. I disagree. My personal guess is that they violated curfew with only 1 day off between games and went out to a party. How would Buzz not sit them? Not only that, it gives them extra motivation in somewhat of a trap game and lets some of the depth get big minutes at a time in the season they are more likely to sit a lot. And they won. I meant it was pretty stupid of the players to violate whatever rule it was. I'm glad Buzz had the stones to suspend them like that. Not every coach would have.
  17. If I'm Braun or on his team and I know for a fact that the guy holding it caused the problem because I was able to duplicate the exact same scenario with the exact same result...I'm pretty sure I'd let the world know that. Doesn't make much sense to me why you would sit on a huge piece of info like that.
  18. I haven't read the Caroll peice but from what I can gather from you guys, I'm pretty disappointed by it. I thought it would be someting that helped clear Braun (like duplicating the exact results for example by leaving it sit out). The fact that SI didn't want it, the fact that it wound up on Amazon for money and the fact that virtually nobody else has taken his information and ran with it all have me pretty concerned that it doesn't really say much to help Braun. I think the press conference helped, but it still seems like most fans still think he got lucky.

  20. Well they got the win somehow. Though they really tried hard to lose. They were under 50% from the FT line. What was DJO doing? They were up 3 with 40 seconds left. They could just run it down, take the violation and be up 3 with 5 seconds left. WV was pretyt clearly not fouling. Instead DJO forces a shot, misses. WV scores. Stupid. Then Cadugan misses 2 FT. Played solid defense the last possession at least and got the W in a tough road venue. Solid win, but man did they not play well down the stretch. I would have to think without the suspensions they probably win easily, but a win is a win. Showed a lot of character and poise though. Played through the suspensions, playing in a tough environment with a lot of bad plays down the stretch and still got the win.
  21. I'm not sure that SI is really any better to be honest. The writers might be better, but they have many writers (this means you Peter King) that think they are as big or bigger than the game. The only thing SI does is at least verify stories before reporting them. But they aren't above basically riding the wave of ESPN, hence how Jeremy Lin is on the cover TWO weeks in a row. For those of you that get SI, can you think of any other time when during the regular season of a sport, the same player or even team hit the cover two weeks in a row? I know it's a slow sports time, but still.
  22. Pretty stupid regardless of what they did. As expected, MU was horrible in the first half without three starters. It also doesn't help that they seemingly are playing against 8 guys out there. Every single 50/50 call....block/charge, out of bounds and a number of very of calls made against MU that weren't made so far against WV. MU has been called for a number or reaches and bodying fouls, and WV is just slapping away. Stunningly, it's only a 7 point game as a type this.
  23. For those that read the Carroll article, is it actually worth a buck to buy?
  24. I was wondering about this, and I highly doubt this happens. It's possible he doesn't know, maybe he told someone about it and they came over and tampered with it. Or his son knew and he or his buddies messed with it. Very unlikely we ever find out. Really only two things could make it happen: 1 - the guilt is just too much and he comes outs and admits it. very unlikely, as he hasn't done so yet and admitting it would likely put him squarely in line for criminal charges 2 - there is an investigation into this. i'm not sure who does that with a case like this...fbi? state police? But even if they do this, most likely all the evidence at this point would be gone (if the guy has any brains at all), so really it would be a matter of him cracking under pressure from them or finding witnesses that he told what he did. I honestly don't see either happening, but I think it's only a matter of time before the name is known and strange things can happen once that information is public.
  25. Reading it wrong. He said a couple of guys already wrote a piece on the situation. Not sure if they covered the same sciency stuff that we would have but maybe SI just didn't want multiple pieces on the story. But wasn't the idea that he had NEW stuff? About replicating the tests and whatnot? If that's the case and this is really new stuff that could really help explain what the deal is, wouldn't places be jumping up and down to get it? Would it matter to have 2 articles on it if they were completely different?
