    It would sure be nice to have the Cardinals lose more often. This thread was barrelling downhill towards zero and has now reached an almost crawling pace. Cardinals winning again today, 3-1 over Pitt in the 4th.

    I'm in this same boat. I have a recently turned 1 year old daughter and even though I try to still catch games, sometimes I don't or I have to join them mid-game and whatnot. I know as she gets older and we potentially have another kid, this is going to change. Which is fine. That's obviously more important than baseball but I can see it cutting into my "fandom"

    Yeah, he cant really control that his appendix decided to burst. We'll see what his injury is, if he tore a ligament or tendon or something it's not like he could play through it. Either way, he's out at least for today, and possibly a lot longer.

    I'm surprised this isn't on here anywhere yet, but Matt Holliday had to leave the game in the 9th inning last night due to a hand injury. He got hurt on deck swinging a bat. Said he could no longer grip the bat or swing. He flew back to St. Louis this morning to get it tested, so this might not be a minor thing. Season only has 2 weeks left, so even a sprain could be a significant loss to the Cardinals. Obviously we'll have to wait until we hear more, but this sure weakens their lineup a ton. http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22297882/31974810

    Shouldn't this happen every year then? Since we always have more teams? It probably has, I just don't remember it.

    I'm confused as to why we have any AL East teams. I thought it just went division by division? Why aren't we playing Cleveland/Detroit instead of Toronto? Am I missing something here?

    I think after tonight's events, only pictures of Ryan Braun should be allowed as the #8 picture. He's earned it I think.

    It's the ENTIRE lineup in a funk. For two weeks now. It's not all good pitching either, as this guy has been brutal all year. Nobody is getting hits, nobody is executing fundamentals and our power is just gone. This happens with streaky hitters, but this is the third extended stretch of the season where virtually the entire team is in a slump. We should have way too much talent on offfense to have this much trouble scoring runs. Braun has been getting jammed inside for two weeks and hasn't made any sort of adjustment at all. C'mon Ax, keep it tied here. How about a nice, quick inning and then we can walk off! Good start, one pitch, one out.

    Whew. Got away with it. Two line drive outs from K Rod. Scary. Morgan, Braun, Prince. Let's get some runs!!!

    That was clearly not a foul tip, I rewound it. Horrible call there. Inning should be over. Regardless of this works or not, I think pitching to Helton here is a huge mistake. Don't let him beat you. If he gets out, you have to face Smith anyway. Would you pitch to Braun in this spot? Hope it works but this is a very strange move (as per usual Ron).

    Not sure if anyone saw this but the Pirates had a run taken off the board tonight when the umpire ruled a guy left early on a sac fly. Replays showed he clearly did NOT. I'm sure it evens out but that's a horrid call and changes the whole game. And it goes in the Cardinals favor. Dear Saito, K Rod and Axford: please, please have some quick, scoreless innings here and let's find a way to win this game. Please and thank you.

    How does Morgan clearly running outside the baseline make an umpire awful for making a correct call? How many times do you see that called unless the runner is way into the grass? He was only marginally out of the baseline, that goes without being called more times than not. And with 2 outs and Braun coming up that's a huge call. We really not playing well in any facet of the game right now. Even if we win this game (which I'm doubting), we certainly have done our best to lose or make it as hard as possible.

    Amazing how often those two come up with RISP and continue to fail. Gee Ron, maybe you should give other players a shot. You know, guys that don't royall suck and hit .250 or less. Granted, that was a great play by Tulo, but still. First and second, no outs for Casey and Yuni, and nobody is at all surprised that the inning ended without a run. It's amazing how bad this team has been with RISP lately. At home too. Everyone in the lineup. Casey and Yuni especially but nobody in the lineup is doing anything and the HR's have just stopped coming. This offense is scary BAD right now.

    Cards up 6-4 and counting. Error leads to an unearned run. Still batting too. Come on Brewers, this guy has been getting drilled lately and basically just throws fastballs. Square a few up and hit a ball or two out. Our HR numbers have just fallen off the earth lately. Especially with men on base. Really....Casey squaring to bunt? He's the worst bunter on the team. Come on Ron.

    Hanrahan gives up a run in the 9th. So in the last few days, the Cardinals get 2 of Kimbrel, one of Hanrahan last night and at least 1 tonight. Premier closers giving up runs to the bottom of the Cardinals order. Ridiculous. The Cardinals tried to give this one away and are still going to get a win (seems like the Brewers tonight). Not over yet, but it's not looking good. Pirates just made an error, so the Cardinals are threatening to put more runs on the board. Hard to expect the Pirates to help us, but you at least expect premier closers to not give up the game.

    Why even send him? Weeks not running full speed, only 1 out. He was probably safe, and Weeks could have slide to the back side of the plate and been safe by a mile, but I think it was a risk not taking. Meanwhile, the Pirates are showing about 10 different ways to not score runs. Twice they have hit into DP's with a man on third and one out....on fly balls. TWICE. Neither time with a guy thrown out at the plate. Unbelievable.

    Is it impossible to have a lineup with Green, Weeks and Hairston? This is about winning right? How about putting your best players in the lineup once and awhile?

    Yeah...look at geography and get back to us on this idea.Arizona is closer to the rest of the AL West than the Astros are. Sure, Arizona would make sense, moving to the AL West. But then you have to move Houston to the NL West anyway. Now you're moving two teams instead of just one. Plus, Houston in the AL West gives them the games against the Rangers, so there is that bonus. Arizona has nothing like that in either divison, nor will they ever unless Vegas gets a team some day.

    Huh. That's a very interesting take, as most people I talk to about it think that football has it perfect. The teams are relatively even, they have a hard cap so if you make a bad contract mistake, you pay for it. It allows everyone an equal shot at free agents and it also means that you can't really form super teams (see Yankees and Heat), at least not for a very long stretch. Personally, I think the NFL system is perfect, as it is really to a players advantage to sign early and stay with one team (as they know they won't get a monster contract as a FA in most cases). It's the exact opposite of baseball. You very, very rarely see an elite NFL player change teams, and if he does, you have no idea where he's going. In MLB, it happens every year and the player is almost always going to wind up on 1 of 5 or so teams.

    I think I'm actually slowly moving away from being a baseball fan. I love the Brewers and baseball itself, but the system is so unfair that it's going to drive me away. Every year when I see the Yankees and Red Sox buy their way into the playoffs, I move an inch in that direction. When the Brewers develop a player like Prince and likely have him leave simply because we can't afford him, that's going to move me another inch or two. At some point I'm going to hit the edge unless it's fixed (which it never will be in my opionion). I don't know when that day will come, and it's likely a long ways away but I can feel it happening. The system is incredibly flawed, and it's just not fun to think that even with talent, we essentially only had a very small window to have any sort of championship chance, and after that, will likely have to go through years of rebuilding. I don't think I would ever stop watching completely, but when I hit the edge I'll likely cancel my season tickets and only watch them casually. Maybe.

    All the times of the NLDS games are TBD. One of them will be a day game while one will be a night game. There is no guarantee we'd get the day game.

    The Cardinals really outplayed us badly in these six games, which is somewhat concerning. Had a chance to bury them just by splitting and we lost 5 of 6 and pretty convincingly. I shouldn't be worried with an 8.5 game lead...but I kinda am. We've been outplayed by the Cardinals here, we already seem to be counting our chickens before they hatch and we we have some tough games coming up here.

    Morgan's tweet sure didn't help anything. It really makes him look childish. Ugh. Could have done without that.
