  1. While I would tend to agree, it's been 30 years since we won a division. We certainly haven't won anything yet but I'm going to enjoy it. It's fun to think that for a change we actually have a magic number, rather than an elimination number. It's fun to watch the number slowly drop as well. On a side note, since I brought up elimination numbers. Does everyone realize that Houston's elimination number is now down to 8. EIGHT!!! I know they're horrid but they are going to be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs in mid-late August most likely.
  2. I mean, it's about giving your team the best chance to win every night. Kottaras against a LHP doesn't do that. Now who knows if Wolf would have the same success with Lucroy or not, and that's a different argument that's hard to judge obviously, but from a pure lineup standpoint, Kottaras should start against a RHP when Lucroy needs a day off.
  3. I hadn't really thought of this, but this is possible too I suppose. If the Cardinals were to go on a big run, say play .700 the rest of the way, it's not impossible that they could pass us, even if we played well. That could open the door for us to still get the WC, despite playing well. Not likely, but it is an option and it would be nice to pass the Braves as well and have that as a fallback option.
  4. It's incredibly annoying that Wolf seems to almost always line up with another LHP on the mound. I don't have a problem with Kottaras starting for Wolf, but it just never seems to work out right. The other 3 starters in this series will be RHP, but Kottaras starts against the lefty. Would be really nice if Wolf and Lucroy could just figure it out. Other than that, pretty much the lineup every expected against a LHP. Get healthy Rickie, that lineup would look so much better with you in it and not Wilson.
  5. Maybe I'm missing something obvious here, but without a day off between now and then, how are we not using a 6th starter for the doubleheader? Someone has to go on short rest for that to happen if my math is correct. The DH is on Monday, then two games, then finally a day off. Unless we go with a pitcher on 3 days rest, we're going to need a 6th starter (which I assume is de la Cruz at this point). Unless we're saying Narveson pitches in that series, what day is he eligible to come off the DL? And is there any indication he's healthy enough to do so?
  6. Green could easily come up for Lopez at this point. Lopez is hitting under .200 again, with virtually no slugging. His defense is mediocre and he hasn't been hustling lately. They say Lopez has value as a switch hitter, but he only starts with a RHP on the mound, so Green can easily fill in for those starts. He would give us a high average/power lefty in the lineup for RHP. Even if you don't want Green playing every day, go with Hairston/Wilson at 2b and at least you have Green's bat on the bench. He's certainly a better PH option than Lopez would be right now. Lopez DFA, Green activated. Then when Weeks comes back, you figure out what you want to do. There is no guarantee that Weeks will be back before September 1 (though its looking like he will be), if he isn't though, this isn't even an issue. Weeks just gets re-activated after the rosters expand. This makes so much sense it's just silly, but because of that, it just won't happen.
  7. Yes, we would struggle and lose the division, but there is no reason to think that Atlanta couldn't struggle as well. It's a least a possiblilty that they played just as poorly as we do down the stretch. It's something to watch as a fallback option I think, and we've now pulled even with them.
  8. Prince explained this recently. It's apparently from the movie Monsters, Inc. His kids were watching it in the clubhouse one day or something and they were doing it. And the players I guess caught on and thought it was funny, and now when they do good stuff, they're monsters apparently. Kinda funny.
  9. I know nobody wants to think about the WC at this point, but we've now pulled even with the Braves. It obviously wouldn't be as nice as winning the division, but it potentially could still get us into the playoffs if we falter and lose the division down the stretch. Obviously this could lose us the WC slot as well, but it would be nice to have 2 chances to make the playoffs.
  10. At this point, we'd play the Braves yes (who we're now tied with by the way). Still a long, long way to go. A lot can happen when your magic number is still in the upper thirties.
  11. Lopez wouldn't go anywhere until either Weeks or Gomez comes back, nless he really really blows (not that he's good now but he's still here). That will likely be September and in that case, you might as well just hang onto him with the expanded rosters.
  12. This is a game that has two really important aspects with the Estrada start tomorrow: 1 - it would be huge if Greinke can go a long way tonight, at least 7 innings. Rest the pen for what should be a lot of innings tomorrow 2 - gotta get a W here, with Estrada going tomorrow, that game is probably penciled as a loss for me right now, so winning tonight is imperative
  13. Yes, it could become that either way, but with Estrada, you're virtually guaranteeing it as he can't go much more than 50-60 pitches I would guess. At least with de la Cruz, you'd have a chance (probably a small one) but at least a chance that he could throw up a good game and cover 6-7 innings or something.
  14. I just can't understand the logic. You don't want to start a rookie, I just don't get it. Then why call up a starter at all? At least give hime ONE start to see what happens. Maybe he goes 6-7 innings and saves the pen. Estrada has NOT been good lately, nor can he pitch more than probably 50 pitches. If the plan is to bring in de la Cruz anyway, why not let him start and see what happens? Maybe Estrada could be spared from pitching at all. If you just wanted a long relief guy, bring McClendon or somebody like that back up to fill the void. Having de la Cruz in the Tim Dillard "mop up" role is not beneficial for anybody at this point.
  15. You cross the border basically right by the falls, it's almost impossible to miss. Literally the entire area is based around the waterfall for the most part, you should be fine there. Just remember the passport. As far as wings, the Anchor Bar probably has the best wings I've ever had, at least in the top 5 without question, though it is more expensive than I would normally pay for wings. It's supposedly the place or one of the places that invented the "buffalo wing". A lot of my coworkers there really like Duff's but I thought the wings there were just average. There are wings everywhere though.
  16. I don't get Estrada starting. Why call up a starter in de la Cruz just to rot away in the pen? Why not get another bullpen guy then? Estrada hasn't been stretched out in a couple of months, I highly doubt he can go more than 50-60 pitches, which puts a giant strain on the entire bullpen. He'll be lucky to get through 4 innings, the maybe Dillard can go an inning or two. My thought is that you give de la Cruz a shot? If he bombs you lose the game obviously, but maybe you can save the pen. Give the kid a shot with ONE start at least. Having him rot away in the Dillard role doesn't really help anyone.
  17. Oh, well either way there are ways to get Morgan. I just gotta figure out the pictures now somehow.
  18. According to RR, this is part of the "plan". This incredible, brilliant "master plan" couldn't have been devised so he'd have a day off against the ten game out of first Pirates, as opposed to the second place Cardinals? Not to mention the day off we just had on Monday....
  19. Considering they had 2 days off last week, he shouldn't need a day off already. Mini-slump or not. If this is just a day off I have to seriously question it. Give him off tomorrow if you feel he needs a day. He's too good a hitter (even in a slump) to not be playing a game of this magnitude. Making it worse is that RR has no clue how to make out a lineup. Kotsay third? Most teams wouldn't even want him on the roster, but hey, let's hit him third. Put Hart third today (he was good there too when Braun was out), Morgan leadoff, and Lopez (or who really should be Hairston) in the 2 hole. Morgan, Hairston, Hart, Prince, Casey, Betancourt, Kotsay, Lucroy, Yo Maybe it's just me, but that looks way, way better. Or at least put Hairston in left, he's a much better fielder and hitter than Kotsay.
  20. Is Stetter still on the 40 man? I am pretty sure he is. Now that it's full, we can move guys to the 60 day DL. Stetter is out for the year and can clear a spot for sure, as could Kintzler.
  21. I would really, really love it if they could clinch at home, with me there. I will be there every game if we have a chance to clinch, no matter what. Our last 6 are at home, so winning the division by 5 games or so could still put us in that spot. Prior to that we have 6 on the road, I can't imagine us clinching before then barring a 20-0 run or something crazy. So for me, perfect world, we stay around 5 games ahead, get to the weekend before the season ends, needing 1 win to clinch. Win a game against Florida, go crazy on our home field, then get a few days to setup the rotation and rest any starters that might be hurt.
  22. This is off topic, but I can't look at that graphic without saying just how incredibly AWFUL Houston is. Obviously we all know that, but they have the worst record in the league by over 10 games. Our magic number is at 41 right now....Houston's elimination number is 17. SEVENTEEN!!! It's only early-mid August. Man is that brutal.
  23. Morgan is doing signings at Waukesha Sportscards and Legends of the Field later this month. Two questions if anyone can help: 1 - does he have a "Tony Plush" signature? It would be cool to get one with Morgan and one with Plush 2 - does anyone know how I can get a quality 8x10 made? Both places have pictures for sale, but I want one of him doing the "T" symbol. Obviously I can find a picture but I don't know how to get the quality high enough to not look horrible on the wall as an 8x10. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I may want to do this with both as I think all the pictures they have leave much to be desired. Here is one I think would be cool: http://i.huffpost.com/gen/288830/thumbs/s-NYJER-MORGAN-large300.jpg I can't find one with him doing the "T" yet but I'm sure I can.
  24. Well it's now time to get greedy. We'd all be happy with 2 of 3 coming into the series, but after winning the first two....it's time to drop the hammer on them.
  25. I don't mind Kottaras starting, as Lucroy needs a day off every now and again. It's somewhat annoying that it has to come only with Wolf. Righties are killing Westbrook, so Kottaras starting tomorrow would have been ideal. Or seeing how we just had 2 days off last week, Lucroy could just play. But we know that won't fly. Otherwise I like it a lot. Hairston finally gets to play!!
