  1. Then we should make it easier for him by just winning the WS this year http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. I guess it can't drop every day, though it was sure fun when it was. If it drops 10 more games by next Thursday, the race will be all but over. At this point, just keep winning series and games and it's over anyways.
  3. I have extra Counsell ones for sure. Probably Casey as well. I also have some crappy 8x10's...but nothing really exciting on that front.
  4. http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l511/brwrsfan/gerut.jpg Still can't believe he hit for the cycle....this was his double in fact. And that I actually witnessed it in person. Works out well today though!!
  5. The Reds have a DH in Florida today, they're up 2-0 early in game 1. If the Reds win those two games, they would close to within 11 games of us, only 1 game behind the Cardinals. Maybe we need to start worrying about them at this point too. Granted, they have to win both games or they'll be 12+ games back yet, but it's not far fetched to think that they could.
  6. Still 3 innings left in this Cardinals game, though they are down 8 runs. Despite the ten game lead and all the hoopla from people (myself included) about the magic number, I hope the Brewers don't care what the Cardinals do at this point. Just focus on winning our own games, with a ten game lead and 30 games to play, we just need to focus and win some games and we're in a great spot. Barring a comeback here, it's really starting to look like the Cardinals have started to mail it in. Think about it....they're currently staring at a 10 game hole in the division. Just about every day they see the scoreboard or box scores and the Brewers seem to have won again, be it 11-9, 2-1, 9-1. They played pretty well for a couple weeks and still lost ground to us. They lose a tough one on Monday (blew a 1-0 lead in the 9th), got destroyed yesterday and are now down big again today. They also lost series to Pitt and Chicago last week. Unlike the Brewers, the Cardinals seem to be finding ways to NOT win games. All this, plus the realization that they only have a month of the season left to make up a 10 game hole. If Pujols or LaRussa start to pack it in, the rest of the team is bound to follow. Both of them could be on their way out of town in a month and might just give up on this season. I don't think they have, but it's certainly possible to think so. Of course, as I'm typing this, they go single, HR (from Laird of all people) to cut the lead to 9-3 with 1 out in the 7th. 9-3 after 7.
  7. Alright, I've taken some deep breaths. It sucks to lose, especially to a guy making his MLB Debut. But it's still a 5-2 road trip - just about any team is happy with this and we increased our lead in the division during the trip. It's a bummer to lose, but the fact is, we can't win every day (though it sure seems like we have). Good teams lose games, this is just one of ours. Kinda sucked, but it happens. I agree on the Casey/Yuni at bats though. The lack of a bench really hurt in this game. That or the stubbornness of RR. I would have much rather seen Kotsay instead of Betancourt in the 9th inning. He should have bat with the game on the line unless we have no other options. Just a terrible at bat by him and Casey. And they've been like this all year. On the good news front, the Cardinals are own 7-1 in the top of the 6th inning (all earned runs off Garcia too), so it's looking good right now that we'll maintain our lead and have the magic number shrink. Which is just gravy on a day that we lose a game. Still 4 innings, but the Dodgers are in a good spot right now. Each day that passes gets us one day close to the division, as well as one day closer to Weeks/Gomez.
  8. Well there's a start. 3 shots to tie it up on 1 swing. Let's bring back some of that 9th inning magic!!
  9. I see the graph now, and I stand corrected. I still don't think 54% is acceptable but it appears we're better than most. Which is hard to believe. Maybe it's just that we've really struggled with it lately that is skewing my view. Either way, it's frustraing that we're losing 2-0 in a game. We had two chances to score with a man on third and 1 out and failed both times. While our opponent has had the exact same 2 chances and succeeded both times. If we lose this game, it's disappointing to me that we went 2-2 in the series given the pitching matchups. We won the games Narveson and Estrada pitched, and are possibly going to lose the games started by Greinke and Marcum (not to mention we faced Lincoln and Thompson in those 2 losses). So do we give back the games won by Estrada and Narvy against pitchers this year who should have beaten them? This stuff happens all the time, I'm just shocked that it disappoints you. Really? Of course we don't give them back. I think i'm not the only one disappointed though. If entering the series, someone told you that we would win the games started by Estrada and Narveson, and the remaining two matchups are Greinke vs Lincoln and Marcum vs Thompson....I think most of us would feel pretty darn good about our chances to win the series, not split it. I'm happy with a split on the road, but given the circumstances and how we played in this game, thats disappointing to me that we couldn't take the series. Am I the only one that feels this way?
  10. You are correct that the Brewers are closer to 50/50 but you are also overestimating how well every other team actually does in the same situation. 11. This is the best point, some people are acting like Marcum has a good chance of reaching base. Small sample I dont care, career line of .138/.206/.224. How likely do you think it would be for the pitcher to walk Marcum there? Id say slim to none, meaning forget about the fancy .206 OBP and focus on the .138 average.I don't think Marcum has a good chance of reaching base. But I think he has at least an average chance of putting the ball in play. If he puts the ball in play, it's likely a run. Granted, Marcum could very easily strike out. If he does, Hart still has the man on third with one out. He could ground into a double play then, and you don't score, but other than that, the sacrifice doesn't do anything but keep you out of the DP. When you're down by two in that spot, I think you let Marcum swing. Maybe he gets a fluke hit (he gets 1 out of 10), or maybe he hits a sac fly or grounds into a DP and the run score. In any case, you're giving yourself two chances to score a run without getting a hit, not just the one (especially when that one player is someone that has proved to K a lot of the time).
  12. The Brewers are accused of that every year. The reality is that teams don't score about a 3rd of the time with a man on third and 1 out. I think fans just have too high an expectation in that situation.Fans should have ahigh expectation because it is not that hard to do. The problem is that no one in the majors changes their approach in these situations and try to drive the ball in the gap/hit HRs which causes them to K (like Hart) or get jammed (like Braun). If you told Braun to try to ground out 6-3 he could do it every at bat if he wanted to. OK, teams fail in that spot 1/3 of the time. That's perfectly fine and sounds reasonable. But I believe the Brewers fail in that spot way MORE than 1/3 of the time, hence why I asked if anyone could find the stats. If we're at league average, that's fine. But I bet we're closer to 50/50 or worse. That's why I made the statement in the first place. And yes, I also agree that fans should expect that run to score. If the infield is back, I don't think it's that unreasonable to expect a major league player to put the ball in play and drive in the run.
  13. Anyone have stats as to how often we fail at that? I swear we are the absolutely worst team in baseball with a man on third, 0 or 1 outs. All the more reason to NOT have Marcum bunt. Give us another shot that he puts the ball in play and we can score. Sure, maybe he K's but you still only have 1 out. Maybe he grounds into a DP, but at least we get the run. In a 2 run game, that's just fine in the 5th inning. Hart has been brutal in that spot all year.
  14. I'd love Hairston at short...after Weeks comes back. Hairston at short means Counsell/Wilson have to play second. And amazingly, I think they are both much worse than Betancourt is. Marcum not looking sharp today. Hope we can keep this at 2 runs only and that the offense can put a rally together.
  15. LaRoche is on the hook for 8 mil next year, but I thought that was the last year of his deal? So I don't think that would prevent them from getting Prince. If you wanted to pay most of his salary, you could probably move him. Not ideal, but I think it's certainly doable. I just don't believe that LaRoche would prevent a Prince signing. Maybe they want to spend elsewhere, that would make sense...but I'm not buying hte LaRoche angle. Unless they really feel that Morse can't play the OF well, that could be an argument I guess. I still say they make a play for Prince though.
  16. I agree with this completely. It's sad that the first thing that comes to mind any time a MLB Debut comes up is "well here comes 7 shutout innings". We never seem to just pound guys. This guy struggled in AA this year, his AAA numbers were decent in only 8 innings. This should be a pitcher that we score runs off of, and we still might. But this always seems to happen to us. To make matters worse, Marcum just walked him too.
  17. Frustrating first inning. We fail with a man on third and one out (AGAIN, this has been happening way too much lately IMO). Then they get the same spot and score.
  18. Just because they say it now doesn't really mean anything. I can't believe they would let LaRoche stand in their way but who knows. I guess it's possible that they feel they could better use that money elsewhere, the article mentions CF and probably SP. I guess that makes sense if they do have a strict payroll budget. Still not buying it though. If this is true, I guess this really narrows the market for him as this was a spot that most people had him going. Probably increases the chances that he returns, slightly. Still have the Angels and Orioles to definitely worry about I think. And the guy discounts some teams, but I'm not 100% sure that the Cubs, Cardinals (if they lose Pujols) and maybe a few others wouldn't necessarily go after him.
  19. Gomez and Weeks back does two things: 1. Pushes Josh Wilson to the end of the bench, where he belongs 2 . Allows us to use Hairston in a super-sub role. Playing 3-5 times a week all over the diamond to give the starters a day off. I think he is best served in this role. I hope we don't have trouble with another pitcher making his debut, let's keep the pedal down. If he's really limited to 55 pitches, I'm hoping he's out by the 4th inning. Unless he's grooving balls, it would be nice to see us take some pitches and work the counts a bit more than we normally do. 55 pitches can be chewed up in a hurry if you're having some long at bats. Either way, let's take this one!!
  20. My guess is that they couldn't include any of the rookies in the game with the lockout in place. Those players weren't in the players union and I don't think they could use them in the game. So if they released it before the lockout ended, they'd have to send all those players through a roster update or something, which could have been a mess with all those players. It also allowed them to get the rosters as accurate as possible post lockout. I'm not sure on that, but it would be my guess. As it's usually out in the first week or so of August.
  21. Thanks for posting the picture. That actually looks pretty cool. I think I'm going to go that route. They should be in stores today or tomorrow. Now based on the picture, what should I have him sign the cover with? Any specific color or pen/marker that should be used for a magazine?
  22. Would you mind posting a picture of that Favre mag? So with the Brewers cover here this week, any suggestions as to what I should have him sign it with? Would like the signature to stand out obviously. Any suggestions?
  23. Should hit the stores tomorrow at some point.
  24. Ideally I would buy one, but the signing is this Saturday (and I already bought a ticket). There is no way I would get it in time. Though I'd guess he's doing another signing at some point. Anyone here tried to frame an SI?
  25. I would order a cover print and get that signed...except the signing I have a ticket for is this Saturday. I'd have to pay like 50 bucks to get it shipped here in time.
