  1. He's been a HOF player against the Brewers and a AA player against everyone else. Really annoying. He's also taken away at least 5 hits from us since getting there, probably more.
  2. That was just brutal. That was a shallow popup with a slow runner on third and that is the throw we get? If he puts it anywhere near the plate he's out by a mile. One run with the way Carpenter is pitching is huge. We're lucky the Cardinals have sucked against other teams because they have really outplayed us in this six game stretch. We're not executing at all against them the way we have against other teams. No clutch hitting, bad defense, bad fundamentals....ugh.
  3. If Hairston weren't hurt, Green wouldn't be in there. We've shown no inclination to put him at SS sadly. I would prefer Green higher up but this at least splits up the lefties for later in the game.
  4. Man do I hate Furcal. I'm too lazy to look it up but I swear he's hitting about .400 against us with almost all his HR....and like .175 against the rest of the league. This is just a bad inning. Couple of weak grounders and a flair to left. This one probably over....be really nice to get a W tomorrow and put the hammer down. With Philly coming in a losing streak could happen in a heartbeat.
  5. For people that know better than I...it's my understanding that Green has played some 2b in the minors? If so, couldn't he be an option there? His defense can't be THAT bad, especially when you compare his offense to CC.
  6. The D-Backs have a really easy schedule the rest of the way and are on fire. Gotta hope that cools down or we can keep pace with them. 3.5 up on them with 20 to go...
  7. I fail to see how having another left-handed power bat on the bench, if only to have as PH option is a bad thing. Gamel's power bat would be the best on the bench by far...that's useful.
  8. You mean about Gamel not being called up? He's our supposed first basemen next year and doesn't even get a Sept callup? Not to mention his very good AAA numbers....
  9. Here's to not seeing the number 17 in this thread....ever. I'd say the same for 15 and 13 but I don't want to be greedy http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. Hard to verify that obviously, though it would be something I guess. He could just be renting it or maybe he was just visiting someone he knew that bought that house.
  11. RF Corey Hart CF Nyjer Morgan LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder 3B Casey McGehee SS Yuniesky Betancourt 2B Jerry Hairston Jr. C Jonathan Lucroy RHP Shaun Marcum More Betancourt, no Green again. About what we all expected I think. Lets hope Casey repeats his 3 bomb performance against Jackson.
  12. I'm really thinking this was all nothing. All this about an extension or a house or something like that just seems very far fetched to me and is a pretty big stretch from his 3 (albeit very odd) walkup songs.
  13. last year, the reds optioned edison volquez on 31 august and recalled him on 7 september (less than a ten day period). no other player was placed on the disabled list by the reds between those dates, so he wasn't replacing an injured player.I believe that if the minor league season has ended for the club he was on, he can immediately come back to the majors in September. Ten days later or not.
  14. Ha, I guess the 3 million people filling the seats this year (and 2 of the last 3 years) don't count. Also...we're not the only team in history to dominate at home. Teams in the past have won 60+ games at home. And my favorite...we cheat. TLR said so and he invented baseball so it must be true. Not that we're just a good team or that we also took a series in St. Louis, it's because we have an elaborate way of changing the lighting on the scoreboards and stealing signs that nobody in MLB can apparently decipher. That must be it. The Cardinals went 52-29 at home last year, but of course, that was acceptable because they were the Cardinals, the couldn't be cheating.
  15. I know it won't happen in this series, but it would be really nice to see Green get a start. Move Hairston to SS and let Green try it at second for a night, at least it would be a huge upgrade on offense. I know they likely called him up just to have in Sept and have as a postseason roster option, but so far he's just sitting on the bench. That being said, let's hope the Magic Number never even hits 17 this year. It's time to bury the Cardinals. Even taking 1 game in this series is fine, but this is our chance to effectively end the race right now.
  16. Can Hairston play SS full time? We haven't seen him there yet but could he handle it? Or handle it for 75% of the time with someone like Josh Wilson getting the other starts? Hairston is a guy that seems solid defensively, good enough bat. I don't know what it would take to resign him but I doubt it would be all that much.
  17. Usually these deals do come out of nowhere (see Braun and Weaver)....and the Brewers do like to do things in the afteroons of off days during a homestand. I have a conference call for the next three hours here (UGH) but I'm really hoping my cell phone just starts going nuts around 3:00 with a contract announcement....but it was likely nothing.
  18. The only thing that can't happen here is a sweep by the Cardinals. Granted, we'd still have a big lead but this could give them life and momentum, especially since we play again next week. This is a chance to really bury them, but as long as we can just go 1-2, we'll still have a nice 9.5 game lead, and more importantly, 3 more games will be removed from the calendar. It seems like the pitching matchups are definitely in our favor for all 3 games if Carpenter doesn't go, and we're at home. Those things together would seem to make it very unlikely that we don't win at least one game. Anything more than that and the race will be all but over I think.
  19. Yeah, they're such great fans....yet the stadium only looks about 60-70% full. Oh, and the Pirates are up 5-0 in the 4th.
  20. It seems impossible that every single series against the Cubs, we somehow line up against Dempster. Would be real nice to miss him. He's a solid pitcher against the rest of the league but against the Brewers he's a Cy Young candidate. Gotta figure at some point he'll have a bad start against us....hope it's tonight!
  21. Yeah, I tend to agree but it's too late to do anything about it now. Just hope and pray that Casey miraculously reverts to last years form and that Betancourt channels the tiny fragment of himself that knows how to hit. I am crossing my fingers that when Weeks comes back they give Hairston some starts at SS.
  22. I'll be at the game tonight. I would love nothing more than to just pummel the Cubs for a change and send all their annoying fans home early.
  23. Frames at Michaels are ALWAYS on sale. Always. Plus they have coupons and matting and can even do custom matting there for a very low price. Getting stuff custom framed there is a ripoff, but buying it and doing yourself is a great deal. So I have a sliver sharpie and a sliver paint pen. Which would look better on the Morgan SI? I've never really gotten a magazine signed.
  24. A move doesn't need to be mad for Weeks/Gomez, sure. They would be smart to wait until after September 1st to give themselves more flexibility with the playoff roster. I'm not arguing them, but they're likely not going to have Dillard on the playoff roster anyway (he rarely pitches, plus Narveson will be in the pen as an extra arm). By bringing Gamel/Green up now, they could at least be eligible, and I think we could find time for them, Green especially. At the very least have as a PH option. The minor league season is just about over, they've both played full years in AAA and done well. Bringing them up and putting them on the bench now as opposed to 1.5 weeks from now shouldn't make much difference. Plus we're just wasting roster spots. Dillard was barely used at all as the 12th pitcher...he's now the 13th pitcher. We didn't need him as the 12th and we certainly don't need him as the 13th. That roster spot could be better served by virtually any position player we have in AAA. I'm not talking Weeks/Gomez as they won't be ready in the next few days anyway.
  25. I'm trying to figure out why we haven't yet made a roster move. We barely had a need for 12 pitchers (See Tim Dillard), I understand it with the DH and all that, but at this point, we really don't need them all. We were off yesterday and are off on Monday, so we certainly don't need that many guys. This seems like the perfect time to make a move and bring up Green or Gamel so they are definitely eligible for the playoff roster. Not to mention give us some sort of bat on the bench. Any ideas on why we haven't done this and what they're waiting for? de la Cruz has no options so they might not want to risk losing him, but Dillard does. He's not likely to be on the playoff roster anyway and we'd be able to bring him back up in 10 days with the expanded rosters anyway. Thoughts?
