    Another Jets struggle to begin their season. A-Rod very much looking like a 40 year old HOF QB. Moments of brilliance but wildly inconsistent to poor at times. You don't say he threw a bad pick in the clutch? Regardless, GM Joe Douglas is the real story here. The man continues to surf with little to no repercussions. Amazing.

    Gary Trent Jr. injured his shooting elbow and left with what was termed a 'Hyperextended elbow' Bucks then played what was essentially their Summer League roster and got absolutely worked. Pistons were playing starters and rotation players. Bucks a mix of all their young guys or training camp invites. Clanks. Way outsized. No polish to the Bucks offensive or defensive work. Ugly. I turned it off when they had fallen to down 24.

    They just drafted two of the youngest players in the entire draft class. Chris Livingston looks like a possible young rotation piece. AJ Green is already in the rotation. I personally think Marjon is a lost cause and I certainly don't see him as a part of the small youth movement they have. I loved the A-Jax pick when it happened. If he can't play more controlled and smarter (with his incredible athletic gifts), he will likely be a journeyman by his second contract. THO, I think he is the one player on the roster who could benefit most from a year-long Rajon Rondo tutelage as he gets his feet wet in the NBA coaching ranks. I actually thought the Gary Trent Jr. signing was pretty amazing for a Vet minimum. He is a realllly talented basketball player. Even tho Prince and Wright are past 30 yo, the team got younger there😅.You and I and every Bucks fan knows: getting to the playoffs with a healthy Brook, Giannis, Midds, and Lillard is a tallllll ask. Brook being the most durable of all of them is insane to me.

    So did I. He definitely lost velo as a starter - as we would suspect. Even when I think back to his really solid starts where the velo was up a tick again, I only recall it lasting an inning or an inning and a third, say, out of the blocks.

    That was this season, yes. In 2023, I am nearly positive he touched 97-98 mph. I politely contend he can still lean back and hit 97-98 occasionally. I could also be misremembering this - I'm an old fart who likes to think he pays attention. But as a standard mode he sits 94-95 as I said.

    Let me be your walking Brewers Minor League Wiki 😅 Shane essentially sits 95 mph. Can tough 97/98 mph in relief stints. As a starter he sits 94-95. Kuehner's main strikeout pitch is his sweeper (really a nasty pitch) and off-speed tho he can play up in the zone. 92-93 mph on the heat touching 95. Smith's big thing this past season (and, what likely had the Brewers thinking '...maybe we can get him starting...') is he added a slider to his already vicious curveball when he was down in the AFL. He has a legitimate starter mix now since he's also starting to sprinkle in his change-up more and more as he accrues more innings. Kuehner's thing, really, is his low arm slot - it's deceptive. He struggled with control @ Biloxi as his season wore on but that could be due to fatigue. He's essentially a three pitch guy - sweeper, change-up, and heater but because of his low arm slot he's almost a four pitch guy because he can give his heater two looks. Up in the zone and down because of the heavy ride. I personally think it plays better up in the zone. His sweeper is his K pitch, however.

    SO, according to Bill Huber Doubs skipped Wed and Thurs practices for 'personal reasons' this past week. Those reasons are purported to be an unhappiness with his current role in the offense and his touches. Dod not see this One coming. At all. He is now 'Doubtful' for Sunday. Was just writing out a post. LOL. Very weird m. Doesn't seem like Doubs' personality.

    We certainly 'could'. I wouldn't think it's likely. The past two seasons I've tried to catch Brewers AFL pitchers. The lone mound action I was afforded in all that time was RHP Justin Yeager in the AFL finale last year. Heck of a performance too given the situation. I'm personally waiting to see if he actually pitches. We've had guys go down there and not throw a ball in an organized game or throw very very little.

    The "Jack" on the podcasts is actually Jack.😁 Jack Sterns - he writes features here; has a press pass in the Brewers clubhouse etc. A real live young Brewers journo! I'm just a guy who loves and religiously watches the Brewers Minor Leagues. I've never even met Jack - and, likely won't given where I live and his general dismissiveness of the Minors (tho, that may just be a schtick). Spencer is used to me expressing occasional Minor League thoughts in DM's.😅 Given he already does routine podcasts I figured I may as well poke the bear so to speak and take his already devout Minor League coverage to a new level of geekery. After this season, no better time than this Fall to make my podcast debut. Spencer will wrap up Fall Ball in a couple weeks and then we'll start scheming what this pod (or, let's be honest, pods) will look like. There's a ton of directions we could go. Excited to see where we land with it.

    Alright All. I'm turning in. Stay tuned in the upcoming month or so. Spencer and I are going to do some deep dives into the Minor League side of the Brewers under the Brewers Fanatic podcast banner. You won't want to miss these. This is going to be two uber-nerds talking in depth about our system. I just did my post-season viewing tally last week - I watched 83% of all the full-season games this past season. I eclipsed last seasons 78%! Gotta lot of observations to add about the players I've watched and am excited to share it with the fanbase.

    Well, we won't 'see' him per se. BUT, we might just see results in the AFL. I don't get my hopes up, however - I've seen AFL participants get little to no innings before. BUT, hopefully we see some inspired results no matter the amount!

    Collins absolutely does not need to go. He just got here. He's an insanely talented baseball player who has vastly improved at every stop. He is just getting started, my friend.

    SO, given that, you can use that wisdom to temper your disappointment in defeat, no? You clearly get it. Those wins and that feeling is extremely ephemeral. It's all sort of an illusion. Losing sucks - no doubt about it. But, these losses aren't your losses. Whatsoever.

    3B is still very much up in the air. Man, I really really need a Brock Wilken Arizona Fall League resurgence. That would do huge things in the near term Brewers healing department😅. Ortiz's series was a pretty big downer.

    Thanks for that reminder. Yeah, that one year of control will certainly impact his value. A top 50-100 prospect. A Top 30 guy. And maybe a DSL guy seems like the appropriate value. Maybe swap one of those out for a fringe starting SS to try to catch utility rotation lightning in a bottle?

    That's what I was initially thinking. But, who knows. I have no idea how the back injury factors in - from all POV"s it certainly seems very healed and not a problem. A meltdown like tonight certainly never factored into Hader's value. I think Devin is viewed as one of the best relievers in all of baseball. I think he commands near a prime Hader-level of prospects, honestly.

    I mean it is just not easy to shine brightest when the lights try to outshine you. BUT, we saw some incredible performances from the youth on the roster. That is hugely important for the upcoming 'window'. Tobias? Come on now. Unreal performance. Mears?!? MEARS!!! Epic two outings. Megill? Bulldog. It truly was the vets who let us down time and time again. Will Hoskins opt-in? Likely so. BUT, who knows? I love that the youth is telling us they are ready and unafraid. We keep tinkering. We keep pushing.

    Imagine this current pitching staff next season but adding another possible Tobias Myers story in RHP Chad Patrick and likely bullpen high-leverage stalwarts in RHP's Jacob Misiorowski and Chad Yoho. I believe... Oh, yes, I believe...

    This. AND, if we're going to accept O'Rae's results at Double-A for the duration we did...we're sure as heck going to expect an aggressive Pratt promotion. He has nothing to prove at High-A. I think the organization knows they're going to push him to Double-A after an off-season in the weight room and with their development staff. He's coming in on a heater. He has the mentality to take the next step in stride and not blink. He's the best SS in our system by a pretty big margin. Defensively, EBJ can definitely give him a run for his money (and likely is the more rangey overall defender) but EBJ's bat is a quagmire right now. Pratt is pure everything. I still believe as he gets stronger oppo power will come. Maybe that's me being silly and hopeful 😅.

    Murphy's post-game presser is a Lesson in Class Act. It is hard not to just love this man as a man. I'm a believer in who he IS. 100%.

    Well, let me introduce you to a name: Jesus Made Just wait...just you wait. He'll start 2025 in Low-A Carolina by-passing the Complex entirely. Just like Chourio. Yet, all his numbers and all the discourse in the prospect circles? He is coming here well ahed of where Chourio was. We have a legitimate second superstar prospect on our hands. This is a massive storyline coming into the 2025 season. Maybe it never happens for the Brewers in our lifetimes. Maybe. But, I'm a firm believer when your process is sound and consistent the results will eventually follow. I inherently trust the Brewers process. I see it year-in and year-out.

    I come away from this season, and even this tough loss, incredibly optimistic. We have some dawgs in that clubhouse. Adames will be gone. We'll surely miss his regular season bat BUT a new storyline emerges - that's entertainment for me. Williams will most likely be traded for a decent haul of prospect(s) or player(s). Another intriguing storyline. My Minor League season essentially never ends with Winter Leagues upcoming and Rule Five and MInor League Free Agency and then the International signing period. There's just too much Brewers baseball to care about (for me, personally) to hang my hat all on the Brewers needing to succeed in the post-season. This was an improbably entertaining and successful season. The future is very bright for that clubhouse. They have the right manager managing this group. We have some really nice chips at Double and Triple-A I will look for next steps with. The Brewers will keep doing their thing. I will keep dreaming big and be fully prepared to accept the results, regardless. Devastating loss tonight? No. Disappointing? Yes. But, hey. We have Jackson f'ng Chourio for 10 more years. This was his rookie season. I'm going to let that sink in all off-season. We have a superstar in a small market. I'll consider this akin to Giannis' first post-season. Plenty of hope left in the tank.
