  1. Heck of an AB by Valerio there. Just a professional AB in the situation - take note Mr. Garcia! He fouls off 4 pitches. That was a 9-10 pitch AB. He takes the free pass. Bases juiced. Rodriguez to the dish. 1-0 count. Acosta PR for Valerio at 1B.
  2. He fouls one off. The lefty hurler then misses a gorgeous 2-2 curve just off the upper corner. That was a nasty pitch. Valerio laid off but, hey, if I was in that batters box I am absolutely fooled. First time he's seen that nasty hook. 3-2 count.
  3. Double steal executed. 2-2 count now. Big moment.
  4. This is the second pitch clock violation called on a T-Rats batter and I have absolutely zero idea why that was called on Valerio. It's a pitching change for crying out loud. Have some grace there ump. That's a bogus call in that situation. He starts 0-1 right off the bat. Lame.
  5. AND, indeed he does. He throws a wasted slider low and well outside the zone. Garcia swings and flails and misses for his second K. Very uncompetitive AB given the situation. Garcia is so predictable if a pitcher knows how to attack his flawed approach.
  6. The Cubs reliever absolutely knows the Eduardo Garcia scouting report. Pitch one he delivers a slider low and away in the zone. Garcia swings and fouls it back.
  7. Adams masterfully works a count full laying off some very tough off-speed deliveries just off the zone. He takes the full count plunk off his upper thigh. Men on 1st and 2nd. Lead run at the dish. One down.
  8. Hey now! Pratt goes down and golfs a line drive single into LF. Nice poke. Man on base now. Tying runner at the dish.
  9. Lara opens the 8th with a deep oppo fly out to the Left CF warning track. Nice run down grab there.
  10. Bryant buckles down! He works a 1-2 count after consecutive fouls on upper corner heaters (lefty bat) he gets the change-up and drops a string getting the swinging K. Then a weak pop out to shallow RF. He escapes unscathed.
  11. Next batter smokes a 1-2 low and in slider right at a charging Valerio. One down. Men on 1st and 2nd.
  12. The walk is followed by an oppo line drive single into LF. T-Rats are currently being outhit 8-to-2. This is not a good start to a Home series through 1 3/4 games.
  13. RHP Tyler Bryant's High-A work begins much like his Low-A beggining: A walk. Not very competitive after a first pitch strike.
  14. 1-2-3 half for the T-Rats bats. Chirinos K's on a high heater up and above the zone. Vargas grounds out weakly to SS. Fernandez swinging 2-2 K on a change-up dipping below the outer black. On to the 8th.
  15. He strands the runner at 3B (SB) on a high inside foul tip heater. Rodriguez holds on. 3-1 deficit they'll head to the bottom half.
  16. AND, the first pitch to the next batter Cruz absolutely hangs a dead center cut off-speed delivery smashed to the deep LF corner. 3-1 Cubs. Back-to-back doubles. Ouch.
  17. Both young men are sitting up now. Vargas' arm getting looked at. Fernandez is shaking it off in clear foggy brain post-collision 'Huh'? They are checking Fernandez's pupils. Clear concussion check, I imagine. Hey now! They are both staying in the game. Phew. Dodged. A. Bullet. Now to the game at hand. 2-1 Cubs. Man on 2nd. Two down.
  18. You can see how Vargas may have injured that left arm on the aftermath here. Man, that had to have hurt:
  19. Here's the actual collision ... you can see Vargas' upper leg hitting Eduarqui's head as he is falling to the ground.
  20. Vargas is holding his left upper arm/shoulder on the ground. It looked like Eduarqui may have been hit on the head by Vargas' lower body. Come on men. Be healthy, please!
  21. Oh no. After Stiven Cruz lost the tie with a solo jack by the Cubs (who have absolutely not played like their record in any series vs the T-Rats), he saw a goose snort flare find the OF grass in shallow RF. Vargas was charging into the grass from 2B. Fernandez was charging in toward the infield from RF. They collided. Fernandez is still on the turf tho Vargas appears to be shaking it off.
  22. Man, lemme just say how much I love it when a player comes out and sends my Report Point home the following game. Luke Adams: Untouchable. He is just scratching the surface, folks. We have a stud on our hands.
  23. I continue to be mildly perplexed at how CF Luis Lara has been caught 11 times in 40 SB attempts. He is just so electric on his jumps and reads throughout the CF grass. I would think that as he gets older this is going to continue to improve. Not that it's Bob Moore bad...but I would think he 'should' have 5-6 for SB to CS. Regardless, his defense is uncannily good out there. I will once again link the timestamp to yesterday's catch smashing into the CF wall - the last second leap is astoundingly good. These happen on the absolute regular. Just such a gifted CF'er.
  24. Oh no! The Tyler Black Height Truther movement is back gaining steam!!
  25. We all know Lara hasn't gotten it going consistently in any fashion at the dish in 2024. But, my goodness, the defense absolutely still plays. Here's a timestamped look at an unbelievable smashing grab into the wall at straight away CF. Lotttttta that kind of hanging pitch from Cornielle in these highlights. Truly a rough outing. Back to this higlight: this catch? Whewwwwwwwww.
