  1. Absolutely agreed. And, the thing I really like about him so far is: he worked his way up from DIII, he understands and admits he was the beneficiary of numerous lucky breaks in his career (granted, he had to take advantage of them), and he recognizes the absolute importance of talent. Now, I'm going to be interested to see how the remaining staff shakes out. Do they all stay? Do some stay and some go? Who comes with him?
  2. Hafley ran a 4-3 at BC. So did Saleh at SF. He also heavily believes in press man. Thank the heavens. Please, YES.
  3. One thing seems clear with all the secondaries he's coached in the NFL: lottttta turnovers. Same can be said for his time at Pitt where they ranked 9th in passing defense nationally - he coached Logan Ryan, Duron Harmon (both Patriots draftpicks), and Revis. The Packers absolutely needed to improve the performance in the secondary. This seems like a possible step in the right direction. With Pettine, their secondary placed top 5 in Int's (4th I believe).
  4. I understand it's an innate quality to immediately jump to heavy doubts and negativity when it concerns the Packers defense and LaFleur hiring, well, anybody😅. I personally see a coach with a ton of experience from Grad Assistant to D3 all the way up to secondaries in the NFL. He's coached HOF'ers. He specializes in secondaries. I have never been in the department of the Packers need a clean sweep of the defensive staff. I think this is a guy who is extremely hungry to simply coach players again and is glad to relinquish the pressures of the college football era. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt before I begin heavily questioning any aspect of this. It's just the path of least grief - I'll wait for the post-season for that type of reaction.
  5. You know who else did? Kyle Shanahan. What's your point? Pettine was the failed HC there. It's experience in the NFL. It's a non-factor for me.
  6. I absolutely understand your hesitancy. He did it at Boston College in the NIL and Transfer era. BC is essentially a glorified Ivy League team in the ACC. I recommend you look at the 7 years of NFL secondaries he coached. He coached Darrell Revis in college. He was a holdover on Shanahan's staff and worked two years with Salah. Has a distinct connection to both LaFleurs. He clearly wants to get back to purely coaching football. I highly recommend that interview I posted.
  7. I imagine not a single one of us know anything about Hafley, here's an hour interview: Has a lotta experience with NFL secondaries and coordinated an Urban Meyer defense. This is a really good interview - you can see behind the curtain. Why he wanted to be a coordinator again and get back to the NFL. He wants to prioritize coaching and explicitly mentions his deep desire to coach more defense and grt back to coaching DB's again.
  8. If he made huge strides this off-season, sure he could make an impact. Those shoulder injuries are so tricky so I don't think any if us, including the Brewers, really knows what it's going to look like this Spring. The Aaron Ashby we saw rehabbing last year, however, if we're simply being brutally honest wasn't even a Double-A pitcher. His velocity was way down. His movement was restricted - from the pitch to his physical body on the mound. He was extremely hittable and the results bore that out outing after outing. I don't begrudge Ashby for that in any capacity (tho I do question why he was sped up the affiliate ladder in playoff pursuits) - it was fabulous to see him going through the steps on the mound. BUT, it greatly tempered my own expectations heading into 2024. I'd just like to see him stay healthy and work back to some semblance of his former self before I have expectations of what he might do for the Big League roster. I heard Arnold's thoughts this past month and felt they were pretty bullish all things considered.
  9. Big homecoming game for Dame tonight in PDX. I really hope he and the Bucks show out and make it a memorable 'W'. He'll be amongst friends and family. He'll have an extra day before their next WestCoast road game. I just want it to be special for the organization and, expressly, Dame in what has been a trying season for him dealing with the ongoing Divorce and custody things.
  10. Personally, I hope this is the year they recognize Nickel CB is a starting position with its own draft criteria and physical requirements. Target an expressly Slot CB please. With all due respect to Mr. Nixon - a game changing returner - the Packers would greatly benefit targeting a Slot cover guy early in the draft and pushing Nixon to a Dime or back-up role.
  11. I think you're overstating Ross's position here. He (and the entire Packer Report draft team, honestly) obviously does the deep dives into 'Packers types'. BUT, he also acknowledges that tho there are obvious tendencies the Packers do (especially under Gutekunst) show an ability to deviate in random situations. Having followed his football thoughts for awhile now, I think he knows football; he knows Packers types; and he knows they aren't gospel. It's kind of like trading Markets, honestly. Certain patterns over time give you high probabilities the price action is going somewhere. But, it certainly doesn't mean that's where it's going. It's just the probabilities and the statistical trends that inform where you think the price action is going to go - if that makes sense.
  12. The NFL draft season is underway with the East/West Shrine Game and Senior Bowl practices ongoing. I figured we should start a designated NFL draft thread. This thread will be Packers focused but, feel free to present league wide discussion. Post your draft thoughts here. To that end, the Pack-a-Day Podcast in collaboration with Ross Uglem and the Packer Report just began their 'Daily Draft' podcast. It will feature a draft specific discourse once a day M-F. Here was (Mock Draft) Monday's pod: And, here is Day 2's deep dive on Kool-Aid McKinstry:
  13. Here's Wilde on the early Christian Parker unvetted rumors: Seems like it was possibly unsubstantiated but shouldn't be dismissed. Anywho, here's one of the purported internet rumor starters further substantiating (or back-tracking sneakily😂) their offerings: AND, on the GB side of things, we have this:
  14. They've requested an interview with Orr too. This is very very encouraging on both fronts. Needless to say, it would certainly appear those whispers of Christian Parker being offered certainly seem as though they were misheard .
  15. You can't. That was an absurdly dangerous and stupid playcall. You must have those TO's given the absurdly low probability of recovering an onside kick
  16. There is only Pain.
  17. I can't earnestly speak to this. It would appear, from afar, however, the Brewers run a good organization and treat their employees quite well. But, I don't have any direct experience with this whatsoever. Again, I'm going to trust we have one of the better run outfits in MLB.
  18. Yikes. Another sobering look at Manfred's MLB environment. I have to say, personally, having been aware of aspects of what this article speaks to for some time this is why I never once begrudged a Milwaukee Brewer Front Office staff member from seeking employment or opportunity elsewhere. I can only hope the Brewers organization, as a whole, is operating with good practices and noble intentions - yes, even in the world of big business this is possible.
  19. All in all, despite the semi-final loss, that was a fabulously productive AFL season for the Brewers and possibly a springboard for their three men abroad. Congrats to all involved! Now, fly home safely and get ready for the upcoming season.
  20. There are a few whispers from Green Bay tonight that Christian Parker has been offered the position. Nothing confirmed as of yet and there was no word on whether he said 'Yes'. But there are substantiated 'rumors' at this point. FWIW. This could, of course, be premature unvetted speculation but, if this is the case, I'm pretty excited about it.
  21. Two Packer Report items have me fairly pumped: And, more importantly over the duration of the next couple months, this collab with Andy Herman and the Pack-a-Day pod looks to be sublime: Ross knows ball and the Packer Report draft guide has a really good grasp on Packers tendencies.
  22. They get a Legend. The Sounds stadium flags are flying at half mast today. Who will enter the broadcaster's booth in the final home-stand now?!? Sigh.
  23. Three more names thrown into the fire: Bills LB coach Bobby Babich Dallas D-Line coach Aden Durde I have to imagine we'll be seeing quite a few more names in the coming days as well. LaFleur obviously knows this is a crucial hire. I remind myself: I didn't know anything about LaFleur before he was hired either. The third name? Rising Broncos DB coach Christian Parker. *Also shown below. This post will no longer be obsessively edited*
