  1. Action-packed first innings happening in Carolina and Indianapolis. Tyler Black rocked a classic 'trust the process' very hard hit line out to deep CF. Tellez ripped a single to RF. Keston Hiura rocked a line drive single to LF. Men on 1B and 2B. One down. Meanwhile, CF Luis Lara made a fantastic grab deep at the wall in straightaway CF. I don't know how he made the catch - he was entirely turned around and just stuck his arm up. About as exciting as 0-0 games get.
  2. The Nasvhille Sounds are back on the road (not their Home series versus Durham had any home 'cooking' - sighs) to face the Indianapolis Indians. We see 1B Rowdy Tellez is taking the start at first to begin his rehab work. INF Abraham Toro moves over to 2B with Dorrian manning SS and Black back at 3B. RHP Caleb Boushley will be back on the hill trying to help his team move past their 2-4 series loss at Home to the Durham Bulls.
  3. The Carolina Mudcats are back at Five County Stadium hoping to preserve their 5.0 G lead in their push for the second half crown. They are taking on the last place Delmarva Shorebirds who have been a thorn in their side throughout 2023. INF Luke Adams gets the night off - he is replaced by talented INF Jadher Areinamo at 3B. Tayden Hall is back at 1B while Jesus Chirinos will look to keep his hot bat swinging as the DH. RHP Alexander Vallecillo (1-2, 39 2/3 IP, 4.08 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) will look to shut things down from the hill.
  4. - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers sent RHP Joseph Hernandez to the ACL Brewers for a Rehab assignment. (Hernandez last pitched back on May 25th - 3 1/3 innings @ Cedar Rapids. You all might remember his name from the RHP Justin Topa trade.)
  5. I see a Fast Riser: Poised for big things...
  6. Bump. Pour one out for Señor Reyes: Yes Sir!
  7. Just did a quick peak (for those interested) at INF Jhonny Severino's brief work with the FCL Pirates (post-Santana trade). It would appear they are playing him solely at 3B to start things. He's played in 3 G so far. 1 E and graded with a 0.750 FP% - on an identical pace to what we saw with the ACL Crew. He clearly hit the new turf just as comfy at the dish: 10 AB, 3 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR, 2 SB, 0 CS, 0.300 BA, 0.964 OPS. We wish you well, Mr. Severino. Best of luck the rest of your season and beyond!
  8. The only negative coming into this draft I personally saw with INF Mike Boeve was his parents were Cardinals fans. That was a distinctly negative mark in my evaluation process. He can't just change that by finding a better swing path for a higher launch angle. It was almost like an evil curse. When I dug deeper, 'The Boevster' admitted in pre-draft interviews his family was ready to change their fandom. Pheweeee boy, I exclaimed! In many ways, Boeve's selection saved his entire lineage. This is monumental to their future successes as a clan. Hopefully, we Brewers faithful will taste the fruits of this incredible turn to good fortune.
  9. Since this influx of offensive juice post-draft, the ACL Crew have snuck in front of the ACL Reds in their ACL Central Division by 1.0 G. AND, w the Crew hoping to pull out tonight's 'W' (leading 13-4) in the bottom of the 6th now, the ACL Reds trail 6-3 in the 8th. It might be a 2.0 G lead soon enough. Noice!
  10. Folks, we are approaching history in Low-A Carolina and I politely suggest we give this young squad all the necessary mojo to cross the finish line. The Mudcats hold a 5.0 G lead atop their division with 30 games to go. As I've said many times in the past couple of weeks: Down East already won the first half crown so they are already poised to face the 2nd half winners. These two teams will then play a three game post-season semi finals, if you will, and the winner will play a best of three Championship Series with the Carolina North division series winners. SO, the Mudcats current nemeses in this second half push are, currently, Lynchburg (5.0 GB as well) and Fredericksburg (5.5 GB). Why do I bring this up? Well, unlike the Twins' perennial (literally) High-A Playoff participants in Cedar Rapids (seriously, what a juggernaut the Kernels are), the Mudcats actually hold the longest MiLB Playoff drought in all the Minor Leagues: They have not appeared in the post-season in 13 seasons. Last season was heartbreak city. This is the year of Atonement. I can feel it. There is ample talent in the ACL to help see this come to fruition. May it be so.
  11. They grow up so big. So quick.
  12. That swing, tho? I believe I am a tad excited about this young man in the system. My goodness. 😋
  13. 3G, 11 AB, 4 H, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 K, 1 BB. He's played ever game at 2B. In his third outing, he was shifted to 3B in the 6th inning after (sniffles) INF Pablo Reyes shifted to 2B to accommodate a PH and defensive re-alignment. Reyes, as expected, has done admirably all season long as a call-up and utility guy. I miss him in Nashville and the Brewers organization.
  14. RHP Peter Strzelecki has been assigned to the PCL West 1st Place Reno Aces and has taken on a set-up role in his brief tenure there - 2 G, 2 IP, 1 BB, 0 H, 0 R, 0 K. Keep it up Mr. Strzelecki. We're rooting for your continued success.
  15. I don't know if any of y'all have been following the fantastic season of RHP Justin Topa but out this way it's a bit easier to keep tabs on the West Coast teams (obvious reasons). He's been a primary 7th and 8th inning guy for the Mariners. His big development this season has been control - only 11 BB in 44 IP out of the Mariners bullpen. 1.16 WHIP on the season w/ a very healthy 2.45 ERA. 39 K in 44 IP - not crushing with K's, it would appear, but more than holding his own. 17 Holds. 2 SV (3 SVO). 0.241 OBA / 0.289 OOBP / 0.602 OOPS. Just really happy for him. A really solid ongoing 'prove it' season for his future MLB career.
  16. BUMP. Big Jon has been killing it for the Space Cowboys. And, it would appear he is on the possible precipice of his second call-up in 2023! More HERE: Astros Option Corey Julks; Jon Singleton Promotion Under Consideration WOOT WOOT!!!
  17. - Nashville Sounds OF Tyler Naquin was traded to the Chicago White Sox organization for 'Cash'. More HERE. Key tidbit:
  18. I can. It is glorious. 😅 Let's finish strong!
  19. Clarke not only hit that two-run HR, he smacked two doubles? My goodness. He. Is. En. Fuego.
  20. LHP Bennett Sousa just lost the 3-3 tie versus the Bulls here in the 7th. Walk, HBP, K, Double, WP. Not a pretty inning. He's pulled for RHP Pedro Fernandez who will try to prevent further damage. And he gives up the two out, two run single. It's a weekend of bullpen meltdowns. 7-3 Bulls. Ouch.
  21. Another HR for the sizzling man known as Wes Clarke. 18 on the year. A two-run jack. Scores none other than Isaac Collins. Meeker made it 4 IP, 10 H, 1 BB, 4 K, 6 ER. Shuckers trail 6-2
  22. RHP James Meeker picks up where the Shuckers bullpen left last night: single, 2-run HR, single The Shuckers trail 2-0 early. Let's hope Meeker can settle down and find his stuff. I still believe Meeker's best role is in any relief role. This starting pitching thing is really pushing his envelope. He's never been a huge strikeout guy but he's certainly not an 8 K in 25 2/3 IP guy either.
  23. Wehrle grabs the K! He is given the generous call on the upper outer corner on a slider. It did look like he caught the outer stripe - according to 'K Zone', however it may have been just outside. Who cares?!? LOL. Mudcats steal one 4-3.
  24. Wehrle had the next batter 2-2. He fouled off two pitches. Wehrle lost control of a slider on the inner half and it beans the batter in the upper back. Yikes. That's the third HBP from the Mudcats staff. Wehrle is making things very difficult with his walks and now a plunked batter.
