  1. I personally find this trade quite impractical and highly unlikely to happen - for both teams for multiple reasons. BUT, for anyone who follows the broader MLB landscape one thing should be agreed upon here: Kim is a fantastic baseball player. Likely the MVP of the Padres season - what he has done since they made him their lead-off is remarkable. I still think he's a player most fans don't appreciate because the Padres lineup is stacked with big personalities and big names.
  2. Very easily the best week of Affiliated ball in 2023. A 19-5 overall mark is fantastic. The Sounds splitting @ Norfolk is also extremely impressive given the ongoing player shuffles in the dugout and in the pitching stables. I will look back fondly on this week in the off-season.
  3. Big series coming up for the Shuckers 2nd Half dreams - a 6 game set @ Pensacola.
  4. What has Jackson Chourio done at Age 19 in the Southern League? Ummmm... 85 AB 0.388 BA 1.165 OPS 33 H 8 BB / 10 K 1 HBP 6 2B 2 3B 6 HR 24 R 20 RBI 9 SB 1 CS I mean. I have no words.
  5. AND, even if they did, neither played defense in the same stratosphere as Chourio. Chourio is just on an entirely different level of possible greatness. And, I should add Braunie started his Minor League journey 2 years older than Chourio is now at Helena. He always had an incredible bat, obviously. He turned 22 years old just after his Low-A season in the South Atlantic League. Fielder was obviously closer in age. Unfortunately, there is no MiLB database for 2004 - Fielder's Double-A season. For Braun, however, at age 22 (turned 23 in November of that year), he had a pretty remarkable July (2006) himself playing for Huntsville in the Southern League (he had been assigned to Double-A in late June): 76 AB 0.382 BA 1.111 OPS 29 H 7 BB / 12 K 10 2B 4 HR 14 R 12 RBI 5 SB 0 CS I'd call that a Heater for sure. 3 years older. Half the Defense. What Chourio has done this July is otherworldly.
  6. I am just sitting back. And absolutely enjoying Jackson Chourio. Brewers baseball is simply so much better with this young man in it. Pinch me!

  7. If that's the route it travels, fantastic. I literally just don't think about it. He's such a special talent I know their plan has worked insanely well to date. But, yeah, Chourio and Black could both quite easily take AB's at the MLB level right now. That isn't really the Brewer way. Having endured the past two Shuckers seasons this current run feels so validating on so many levels - for me as a fan; for the club as a whole; and for that city. They absolutely deserve a run like this. A significant part of me wants to see the Shuckers rewarded with a post-season run and a Double-A championship. Mike Guerrero is a baseball lifer. I want him to experience that joy and that success.
  8. OH come on. LHP Russ Smith just struck out his second batter in his first outing back from the IL and the game is delayed due to rain. 😅 8 2/3 innings complete. Just end this. Booooooooo!
  9. With Chourio, I don't worry about any of this. I am simply absolutely undeniably enjoying every step in his journey. We are SO lucky to watch this young man play ball in the Brewers Minor League system. His zest for the game is palpable. He's a generational talent. He'll get there and they'll bring him there in right timing. That's my take. If it's this year, awesome. If it's next year, fantastic. If it's 2025? Great. I'm going to simply keep watching with my jaw dropped and grateful he is a Brewer in my lifetime.
  10. Yeah, I didn't see anything and I don't think it was anything. They were only leading 2-1 at that point so I took it as get another faster set of wheels on the base paths. It was a men on 1st and 2nd, if I recall, with Zamora at 2B? Anywho, I don't think it was anything.
  11. With this impending victory, btw, the Shuckers will take a 3 1/2 game lead over third place Montgomery. They will lead Pensacola by 1 game but Pensacola won the first half so they are irrelevant. They will simply be known as first half winners with an incredibly beautiful ball park.
  12. It. Is. Unbelievable my man. I can't believe what I have witnessed this second half with these Shuckers. AND, it is contagious. Black and Chourio (and Quero) led the surge. Their teammates have jumped aboard. It's up and down this line up right now. SO happy for manager Mike Guerrero and hitting coach Chuckie Caufield. They deserve this run. For our viewing pleasures:
  13. ER MER GERRRRRRD. Chourio. Two Run Bomb. 14-1.
  14. Holy heck it's hard to fathom the offensive explosion we've witnessed by the Shuckers of late. They just laid down another 10-spot inning. Thats 2 10 run innings in 8 days. My goodness. AND this inning isn't over yet as they lead 12-1 here in the bottom of the 6th. Over this same 8-Day span, they have scored a grand total of 69 runs in 8 games. They have 2 1/3 innings left. Unreal. Edit to Add: Here's the highlight reel. Valerio's 3rd Long Ball of 2023 included:
  15. RHP Will Childers step to the podium: 6 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 7K, 0 R of relief work today. Fantastic outing for Childers! The Mudcats offense, minus the bats of Luke Adams and Luis Lara, were held to one run. They lose 3-1 but win the series 5-1 on the road @ Columbia.
  16. AND, INF Zavi Warren ripped another rbi dub. It's 2-0 Shuckers. Warren is on a proverbial tear. My goodness.
  17. 8 BB : 9 K in July after that free pass. Noice!
  18. VanMeter grounds out weakly to 2B after lunging for a pitch low and tailing outside the zone. He was protecting after a replay challenge by the Tides' catcher proved correct and costly taking the 3-1 count back to 2-2. ON weekend games in the International League, they move to the challenge replay system. SO, it isn't the standard ABS. Really good call by the Tides catcher as the pitch was just nicking the inner line of the strike zone versus the lefty bat of VanMeter. Sounds lose 6-3. They leave the bases dripping. They split the series, I believe (?), 3-3.
  19. Excuse me, I am live now and it's 6-3. Harrison struck out. Urias was just HBP so the bases are juiced. Two down. VanMeter will try to do some further damage.
  20. The fine bullpen work of LHP Darrell Thompson, LHP Clayton Andrews, and LHP Alex Claudio have given the Sounds a chance after another RHP Jason Alexander outing in which he got hit around the ball park. Sounds trailed 6-2 (all Alexander's runs) in the 9th but have plated two with nobody down. Man on 2B. Devanney at the dish. Sounds trail 6-4 after Navarreto's 2-RBI double. Devanney just popped up to 2B so there is 1 down. Harrison to the dish.
  21. Chourio starts his day with a single poke. Season OPS up to 0.818. Season BA up to 0.283. As Stevie Wonder would surmise: 'Hotter than July'. We need to super-impose Chourio into that album cover😅
  22. RHP Aidan Maldonado returned to the lineup and continued his ongoing struggles: 1 IP 5 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 3 ER, 33 pitches. BUT, RHP Will Childers with his best work on the mound in quite some time: 4 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 5 K, 0 R. You love to see that from a young arm who had been getting knocked around quite a bit as of late. Mudcats trail 3-1 in the top of the 6th as they look to steal one here and take the sweep @ Columbia.
