  1. C Jose Sibrian. Have you heard me mention his name? Grand Slam here in the 9th. I'm telling you because I'm telling you. He's very very good at baseball. Promote this man. I guess he won't hit for the cycle. How awful.
  2. LF Jace Avina just threw out the tag at 3B on a deep fly to the warning track. OF assist and a DP. He aired that ball right to Adams. What a toss. 7-2 Mudcats here late.
  3. His change-up is straight filthy. Hitters sit on it. They still can't hit it. At all.
  4. Rivero K's 3 up and 3 down in the 7th. Man, he is a really intriguing arm y'all.
  5. RHP Jesus Rivero has some nasty off-speed stuff to pair with a heater that moves and rises. Where does this pitch land? Down there. Heck of a pitch. Sheeesh.
  6. Wes Clarke just laid off a very intriguing 84 mph slider to make the count full. He then lays off a high heater in a 3-2 count and walks. This drives in a run. The Shuckers now lead 5-1. And the Barons will go back to their bullpen for another arm - 4 BB's this inning. Still two outs.
  7. And, Cornielle walked him to load the bases. But, he escapes inducing the 0-1 ground out to Eduardo Garcia who steps on 2B and avoids the runner with a gazelle like leap and trots to the dugout. It remains 2-2. Oh, and HEY! C Jose Sibrian is now a triple shy of the cycle. Just ripped a solo shot over the LF wall. Have you heard my thoughts on this young man?
  8. Corneille suddenly finds himself in a wee bit of trouble with runners on the corners and two down after an absolute check swing doink into very shallow RF. That was what we call a case of bad luck. Let's see if he can escape.
  9. With runners running at the pitch in a full count, Rivero gets the strikeout on a high heater high and outside and Sibrian throws the runner out at 2B. Have I mentioned how much I love Sibrian behind the dish? Rivero gets the pop up halfway down the 1B line to end the threat. Really nice work inheriting those runners and shutting that down.
  10. Aquino lets his first two batters get on base here to start the 6th and manager Victor Estevez is going to talented RHP Jesus Rivero to try and stop any thoughts of a rally.
  11. And, as has been the case in 2023, these silly errors matter. Cornielle falls to a 2-0 count to his next batter who then hits a deep tailing liner to the LF wall. OF Je'Von Ward leaps to the wall but hits the wall as he catches it and the ball rolls free. The runner scores. 2-2. Martinez Jr. has to simply execute that play. It was very routine. He just botched it. Ugh.
  12. Meanwhile, in Wisconsin, leading 2-1 with RHP Alexander Cornielle on the hill now . Two down. 1B Ernesto Martinez Jr. absolutely eaten by a weak liner to 1B. Awkward fall to the ground to try and collect it. Just an ugly attempt. Man on 1B now.
  13. Woot Woot! OF Kaylan Nicasia rips a lunging single to RF and drives in 2 more. He gets to 2B on the failed throw to home plate. 6-2 Mudcats! Yeah babyyyyyy!
  14. Noice! 1B Jesus Parra just added to the Mudcats 3-2 lead with a liner double down the LF line. 4-2 Muddies and there is one down. Parra and Avina are at 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Top of the 6th.
  15. 'Woody' is chatting it up with C Darrien Miller as he heads to the mound to open the first frame. Yeah baby.
  16. Aquino works around a botched fielding attempt on a comebacker that would have likely ended his frame by getting the fly out to LF. 1-0 as the Mudcats move to the top of the 3rd. Aquino has his full aresenal working tonight. The young man has a lotttta tools on the hill.
  17. Areinamo sends him home with a deep sac fly liner to RF. Beautiful piece of hitting. 1-0 Mudcats. Let's Go!
  18. Sibrian rewards my continued megaphone: takes a 1-2 low breaking ball into LF into the Fireflies bullpen on the bounce. Dub dub. The man is on a mission.
  19. C Jose Sibrian is already on his own calling games. He's such an underrated backstop. I'll keep pounding this drum. He calls for four straight off-speed pitches - curve, curve, change-up, curve. RHP Patricio Aquino goes K, line out to RF, K. Beautiful first frame. 0-0 and we're on to the 2nd.
  20. 3 up. 3 down for the Mudcats. Luke Adams goes down swinging on a really nice slider from the Fireflies starting pitcher. Heck of a nasty pitch.
  21. The managers are at home plate handing in their lineup cards @ Columbia. We will be starting shortly.
  22. Now that failed relief acquisition project RHP Matt Bush is back with the Rangers, I'm just here to remind us all of LHP Antoine Kelly's relief work this July for the Rangers' Double-A affiliate the Frisco RoughRiders: 8 G 9.0 IP 1 SVO 1 SV 4 H 1 BB 10 K 0 ER 0.129 BAA 0.56 WHIP
  23. I'm still peeved the ump took away RHP Ryan Brady's first Save last night. Egregious blown called strike three after some really sublime bullpen work. He deserved better. (Still frame from last night's thread below. That ball is essentially sitting atop the inner stripe. After his multiple innings of good work, he deserved the recognition there)
