  1. Our first bevy of interviews from the great Jeff Hem. We see a lone interview from the opening weekend 3-game set versus Louisville and a series of interviews from this recent 6-game series at Memphis. We hear from manager Rick Sweet twice, OF Sal Frelick, newcomer RHP Janson Junk, fast improving bullpen arm RHP Lucas Erceg, and LHP Ethan Small who has impressed in two of his three outings so far in 2023. All interviews on Jeff's Wordpress HERE
  2. I want to bring back an article written re: LHP Darrell Thompson's final call to affiliated ball. It's quite telling he was brought on to Double-A and into the Southern League right off the bat (regardless, of his age of 28). He has a heater that can touch 97-98 and a Change-up with a 'Slurve' offering. What I didn't know until reading through some things when first signed, is there were several teams in the mix including the Brewers essentially beating the Royals to offering an actual contract: (From Shenandoah Valley's local newspaper 'Daily-News Record' from this past October) (Full article HERE) Regardless, hats off again to the Brewers personnel department on this one. A heck of a first outing. They signed a very hungry hard-working lefty arm further adding to their suddenly deepening lefty corps. You'll also, perhaps, recognize the 'Schaumburg' Indy team here - RHP Jake Cousins and RHP Ryan Middendorf both came down from what is fast becoming one of our favorite Indy ball recruiting grounds.
  3. He was an easy Top 10 add to my Undervalued and Under-Hyped list. I had a chance to view some ACL video beyond the Brewers Player Development Twitter and it was extremely impressive. He gets such downhill leverage and velo. I knew when I saw it he had a chance to be an absolute flamethrower. I had to go back and watch his first outing and he had batters just guessing and pre-swinging at that heat. Loved the mojo on the mound too.
  4. Let's give it up to LHP Nick Bennet who goes 3 scoreless innings protecting that 4-0 lead in his inaugural outing as a bullpen arm. Fantastic stuff, Nick!
  5. Interestingly, watching Small's outing, he is throwing mostly change-ups. This is quite opposite his last outing. Clearly, they appear to have an agenda early with his arsenal. He just pulled the rug out on a beautiful strike 3 for his second K on a late-dipping 80 mph change on the outer stripe (right-handed batter). And, he does the same with his third K. 2 straight change-ups - both whiffs from another righty. Interesting.
  6. Well, it sure looks like we got that good version of LHP Ethan Small today. 1 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K. I am going to go back and watch his inning of work here shortly on my family break and see his wares.
  7. I take full responsibility with my irresponsible post. There's no excuse. I can do better.😒
  8. Hats off to the early starts of Zavier Warren and Tristen Lutz. Both men made my 'Undervalued' lists and it sure seems like they are staking their claims picking up where they left off in 2022. If Lutz can just stay healthy, he is such a fantastic bat for that batting order.
  9. Well, RHP Carlos Rodriguez is indeed staking his claim that the Nicaragua surprise start in the WBC was not a fluke. This is perhaps the best starting pitcher in our Minor League ranks at present - yes, including LHP Robert Gasser. What he has done as a pitcher in the past year is nothing short of declaring Ace status. How impressive is this road Start?
  10. That's quite the rough start to Stock's brief tenure as a Sound. He was hit quite hard in his first outing. Now, he doesn't make it past the first inning in his second start? Ruh roh, raggy. Longing for the days of Josh Lindblom.
  11. Best of luck to all affiliates and all Minor League fans on this Easter Sunday. It's a full on family farm day - outside egg hunts, garden and field work, and walks through the forest. Wishing you all a wonderful day and, hopefully, a day filled with victories and achievements.
  12. OK. @Mass Haas, I think I have the answer and, in typical modern fashion 😅, it is hidden in the fine print deep inside an article (but not auto-prompted in the original sign-up). In essence, there is a redemption link via the 'At Bat' sign-up that allows you to view the archives on MiLB.TV. What a round about approach. None the less, here is the article snippet and the place you'll individually need to go to to redeem your 'At Bat' sign-ups for MiLB.TV access: https://www.mlb.com/news/milb-on-mlb-tv-faq-2023 (full article) Mid-Way down the page, you will see a heading: 'How can I watch Minor League Games from all 30 organizations?' Go to the 'Visit this page' link and voila, you now have access to the MiLB archives. I just went back to review Tyler's injury. Let me know if you have any issues with this.
  13. @Mass Haas, I am literally on the phone with MLB right now addressing these archive and viewing issues. This roll-out to housing all Minor League games under the 'At Bat' subscription, the MLB portal, and the dreadful 'First Pitch' app is, how do I put this calmly and appropriately: "Not good, Bob!". I just had a roughly 20 minute discussion with a very patient and cordial MLB rep. She was actually entirely unaware of this issue (which, in and of itself, is telling) but will take my grievance up the chain in a report and email me back. We'll see how this goes but I'll keep you and the community abreast. The main issue I was conveying to her (and, which she was entirely unawares): the MiLB.TV portal now force feeds you to MLB.TV's 'At Bat' subscription. So, in essence, they are now trying to take two payments (intentionally or unintentionally, I don't know) for those of us who solely want to package the affiliated and greater Minor League games. Our Minor League TV accounts do not recognize the 'At Bat' subscriptions - they recognize no subscriptions. BUT, we can't even attain a MiLB.TV subscription because, well, they auto-loop us back to the aforementioned 'At Bat' subscription. In plain incredulous Lombardi terms: "What the hell is going on out here?!?" Also, these new Shuckers interviews? How awesome is this? Well done, Javik. Well done!
  14. LHP Brandon Knarr struggles through his 3 1/3 IP - walks and doubles seemed to be the deal. He left the game with a 3-0 deficit and men on 2nd and 3rd base after a, you guessed it, double. RHP Zach Vennarro comes on and walks his first batter (may have been intentional to have a DP ball at all bases), uncorks a wild pitch to score a runner, and then gives up a, you guess it, double to left fielder Carlos Rodriguez scoring two more. The ensuing batter rips a single and it is suddenly 7-0 Braves. Yikes. It's a rough one here in Game 2.
  15. The entire roll-out in 2023 of games suddenly viewable by MLB (via 'At Bat') and no longer viewable in the MiLB.tv portal has been very weird. The entire payment process was strange. For a professional League, honestly, it's pretty Bush League stuff. Make it easier for your fans. Communicate clearly or have landing pages with an explanation and instructions. I'm fairly tech savvy so I figured it all out but it's not a very likable process. I, for one, loved the MiLB.TV bundle as everything was in one place. i could watch any Minor League game I wanted. And, they were in an archive I could go back and watch. I don't quite know what I'm actually working with now and it is a bit bothersome. None the less, I guess it is what it is in a wonky transition.
  16. Right?!? I was not pleased last night. There's all sorts of new things going on at that stadium, however. I believe there were turf concerns (?) heading into the series. But, yeah, it's pretty frustrating. We've had Chourio touted and amped up all off-season especially this week and we can't even watch him?!? It's pretty hilarious.
  17. Sounds close it out on a weak grounder on a jam shot past the diving Lucas Erceg. Singleton, incapable of beating the runner to the bag, appeared to have reach-tagged him out just a step before he took first. Sounds currently lead the series 3-2 and will look to take the series with tomorrow's final game. It's on to Biloxi where it appears they are once again not on live TV. Let's hunt the Game Logs and Box Scores.
  18. Fair enough. Perhaps, he knows (or the entire staff does) he is a guy with a 35% k-rate? Anyhow, I really don't want to further argue this with you. I am saying you have valid points. And you are entitled to your opinions and I'm not saying you're wrong in your POV. But, we can disagree on some things. That's ok. Really, it's not a big deal. Also, I should add: it's awesome having debates on these finer points in our lower level contests! Most of the time I'm giving play-by-play to anyone who wants to read. So, thanks for your passion and your observations. Truly.
  19. I don't disagree here. I will say what I do know: that pitch resulted in a huge swing and miss. But, as we both know: Cousins isn't at the MLB level. He's in Triple-A, presently, most likely because of what we're talking about here. But, he also has a track record of success at the highest level so we also know it's somewhere in the tank. Hopefully, he finds it. Anyhow, currently watching Erceg strike everyone out. Man, Erceg looks fantastic. This may be the best I've ever seen his slider.
  20. RHP Lucas Erceg on to start the 8th frame here. And, dare I say, he's working a moustache. Love it. Go for it, Lucas!
  21. Command is an issue. Yes. But, the command at issue is his sinker. The slider is a pitch he uses out of the zone. The mistake slider was in the zone. And, it resulted in a well hit ball on an 0-2 count to deep short. Regardless, we agree on some things. We don't on others. This is fine. The ball that reached the back stop was a heater that ripped about 6 feet wide (?) and was a 'Huh?!' pitch. 😂
  22. Well, the T-Rats grabbed two runs to make it 4-2. With Joe Gray Jr. standing at 2B, I would argue the umps blew a tie goes to the runner call as Jesus Chirinos clearly hit the bag as the ball arrived. And, so it goes. There is no replay in the lower levels on these bang-bang plays. T-Rats lose 4-2. And, further exemplifying the disparity of the Minor Leagues, Jon Singleton is called out on a check swing by the umpire standing behind second base. Because, well, that's life in the lower levels. Certainly didn't look like he broke the plane. It's on to the bottom of the 8th. Sounds lead 6-2.
  23. OF Blake Perkins just grabbed back the run. 6-2 on a 390' jack over the wall in LF. I might have been mentioning Perkins recently. Maybe, just maybe talking about his skills. He's a player folks.
  24. Don't blink. The T-Rats have the bases juiced in the top of the 9th here after Joe Gray Jr. worked a very tough walk.
  25. I would counter to you: He struck out Moises Gomez on another dominant slider. With his sinker hitting 95 mph, this is what we want to see. Gomez is on the Cardinals 40-man roster and hit 39 HR last year between Double and Triple-A (formerly of the Rays organization, if you recall). He struck out 3 batters. His only blemish was the walk and the wild pitch - obviously, he doesn't want that. The run itself crossed on a groundout that probably traveled 30 mph. LOL.
