  1. As if I needed more reasons to continue crushing on the under the radar awesomeness of Cam Devanney. I'm telling you, this young man is absolutely legit. He has the tools to make it in the MLB.
  2. I swear, if the Shuckers close out their season on a 10-0 victory run after losing 26-4 in their first two games versus Mississippi….well, that will be the most 2022 Shuckers thing ever.?
  3. 5 of his past 6 outings scoreless for RHP Arnaldo Hernandez is another late-season Shuckers storyline to uplift and inspire (granted the sole blemish was a 4 run, 5 hit affair in 2 IP) RHP Harold Chirino has been walking a batter an inning in August but he’s been walking that tightrope quite effectively considering the results. He has some pretty intriguing stuff and it feels like a couple minor tweaks and adjustments could really make him a serious late inning threat. He hits 97-99mph with regularity. Still just 24 yo. It feels like, given his improvements as a whole in 2022, next season is a pretty significant one for the young hurler.

  5. Frelick extended his on base streak to 33 games. Severino appears to have left the game early - I hope he’s OK. Sounds trail 4-0 in the 8th. Jarvis works around 6 walks. Shuckers win 2-1. What a run.
  6. I see the Shuckers are facing Eury Pérez. That's going to take quite the night from the bats to take this one and a quality start from Justin Jarvis. The recent High-A call-ups haven't seen an arm like this all season. Here's hoping they bring their 'A' games.
  7. What's crazy about Felick's on base streak is it is not even tops in the International League right now. LOL. He trails the next by one game. Quite the cat and mouse going on!
  8. Cam Robinson works around a couple seeing eye singles and a wild pitch (probably a passed ball, if we're being honest) with his second strikeout of his ninth frame. That's 10 K's total for the Sounds pitching staff and their fourth consecutive quality start by a Starter. That's now a 4.5 game lead over Columbus and I'm feeling pretty dang good about it! Sounds win 6-1! Let's GO!
  9. With a man on first base, and two down, Clayton Andrews was pulled for Harold Chirino. He has proceeded to give up a 1-2 single up the middle and walked the next batter on 4 pitches. Bases are juiced. Shuckers clinging to a 1-0 lead here in the 8th. He works his next batter right off the bat to 0-2 on an inside heater and an outside breaking ball. He's ripping 99 on the radar gun now. Outside heater low and away hits that mark. With a 1-2 count, he misses by an inch low on a 97 heater. 2-2. Low and outside, 3-2. AND, he strikes him out on a high heater. WHEWwwwwwwww. 1-0 and we are on to the 9th frame.
  10. Cam Devanney just ripped a deep double off the wall in left center...and an angel grew its wings. Lottta hard contact again tonight for these talented Sounds gunners.
  11. RHP Jake Cousins is starting to find his groove again. He had shown flashes in the past month but hadn't really stacked successes. He tossed 7 pitches last night. 7 strikes. 2 punch outs. He started his evening here in the 8th inning with two vintage Cousins sliders and then a nasty breaking ball for the three-pitch strikeout. Just struck out batter number two on a 2-2 nasty slider. Batter number 3, a lefty, managed a right field single. Fear not, he buckles batter number 4 at the knees with a fantastic heater. THIS is the Jake Cousins I love to watch hurl those 7th-9th innings.
  12. Yuppers. It's unreal. AND, they each offer vastly different qualities as players yet they're all ridiculously rangy in the outfield and speedy on the basepaths. Couple that with Chourio in the wings? It's an unreal wealth of riches. And, it is awesome.
  13. Two two-out singles to right field by Jon Singleton and Joey Wiemer. Pablo Reyes works that count full and smashes a 103 mph oppo double to the gap between right and center. 6-1 Sounds. That's their 10th hit tonight. Let's go!
  14. Oh, hey Esteury Ruiz smacks a double to left field. And, hey guess what? He steals his 77th base of his season and 6th in two nights. AND, because he adds such ridiculous pressure on opponents, the throw was rushed and makes its way into left field. Ruiz scores. 4-1 Sounds baby. Columbus lost its third in a row to Omaha. IF the Sounds pull this out, they will be 4.5 games ahead with 12 games remaining.
  15. Yeison Coca walked, stole second, stole third...and Corey Ray knocks him across with a sacrifice fly to left. 1-0 Biloxi baby. Let's go for 7, lads!!
  16. Fantastic 1-2-3 inning of work here in the top of the 7th for Trevor Gott. That was night and day more dialed and impactful than outing number one (shocker). He looked really really good.
  17. AND, LHP Brandon Knarr completes 6 scoreless IP. He ends his outing (most likely) with a strikeout. Fantastic stuff of late for the Knarrly man.
  18. That's 6 consecutive Quality Starts for Lindbolm. He completes 6 IP tonight with 1 ER. He's been fantastic at the most important point of the Sounds season. Love it.
  19. Sounds lead 3-1 in the top of the 5th (1 down - Lindbolm doing classic AAAA Lindbolm stuff). AND, Columbus trails 10-6 in the 8th to Omaha. Let's go!
  20. The Frelick to Ruiz 1-2 punch is a very real thing. My word are they fantastic together.
  21. Well this is cool: Shuckers Trainer, Matt Deal, named Southern League Trainer of the Year The first such award for a Shucker Trainer.
  22. The headline says it all. Sal Frelick is an on base machine. His key three-run homer not only extended his personal on base streak to 31 games (second in the International League at present), it gave the Sounds a 4-2 lead. Clutch stuff from the young stud. Esteury Ruiz broke the Sounds single game steals record with five stolen bases by the fourth inning. Those early 1980's Sounds teams were legendary. I tip my cap to Otis Nixon's record that held for decades, but, I have to think Ruiz's record will hold for even longer. My goodness. Let's get into the reports. Transactions: None Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 12, Jacksonville (Marlins) 4 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds' site, game details, please visit and review: Sal Frelick Homers Twice as Sounds Blast Past Jumbo Shrimp - Nashville Extends Lead atop International League West Division to 3.5 Games 18 hits. 12 runs. This is the Sounds offense I've grown to love throughout the 2022 season. They have so much juice throughout their lineup - this is possible on any given night. With another Columbus Clipper loss, the Sounds push their division lead back to 3 1/2 games. A special mention will go to RHP Victor Castaneda and his quality start in his first Triple-A start of 2022: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 3 ER, 2 K. RHP's Lucas Erceg and Jake Cousins each tacked on scoreless frames in the 8th and 9th innings, respectively, to close out the victory. Three Quick Strikes: 1) One of the most impressive facets of Sal Frelick's 2022 season is he has hit better at each promotion. What's been even more fascinating to watch is how well he consistently hits lefty pitching. Tonight's lead-taking three-run jack over the right field wall was yet another example of his now patented hip flip line drive smash: 2) Watching Esteury Ruiz wind-up on the base paths is a thing of beauty. I don't know if I've ever seen a weapon quite like this in the Brewers system. He's a danger to lay down an impeccable bunt single at any moment and yet he can make some serious contact on the ball. He can play cat and mouse every single time he's on a base. And, he's coy about it. Sometimes he'll take off on the first pitch. Sometimes he'll show disinterest and then deep in the count take off when you least expect it. His timing is typically impeccable and his jumps are typically incredibly well timed. Take a look at both these latter qualities in his fifth record-breaking steal: 3) We are seeing something else from C Pedro Severino in September. After another long ball tonight - a no doubter over the wall in left field - he has pushed his September output to: 9 G, 30 AB, 0.467 BA, 1.376 OPS (!!), 8 R, 8 RBI, 3 HR, 5 2B, 4 BB, 3 K. The man is absolutely mashing right now. The Sounds are extremely lucky to have a MLB caliber catcher manning the backstop in their playoff push. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 8, Pensacola (Marlins) 2 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shucker' site, game details, please visit and review: Six for Six - Shook Deals Six Frames to Help Shuckers to Sixth Straight - Murray Hits First Double-A Home Run Winners of six straight games, I am all hands on deck to watch the Shuckers close out their 2022 campaign with a bang. Much like Wisconsin, these Shuckers are showcasing there is plenty to play for even when no post-season birth is on the line. RHP TJ Shook gave us his best outing in some time as he looked calm and collected on the mound: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 BB, 2 ER, 1 HR, 3 K. In what is likely his last start of 2022, it has to feel good to end on a positive note after some scuffling down the homestretch. Thank you for all your efforts in 2022, young man. Three Quick Strikes: 1) OF Corey Ray continues to demonstrate he will not go quietly into the night as his off season approaches. He extended his hit streak to nine games after his early game single, then hit a two bagger, and followed with a walk. All told, he finished his evening 2-for-4 with 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB. His only blemishes came when he was caught stealing and picked off. Given he still gives high quality defense and outfield range on a nightly basis, the ongoing offensive output is noteworthy. When Ray is healthy, he still offers quite a bit to a baseball team as he's showcased on more than one occasion in 2022. I continue to hope there's a way he stays in the system in 2023 - yes, even if that is unrealistic. 2) C Nick Kahle is making the most of his late season opportunities behind home plate. After only 16 AB's in all of August, he now has 22 AB's through September 14th. Batting in the nine-hole tonight, he gave his team a 2-for-3, 1 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K performance. Let's take a look at his home run blast over the left field fence. This one had some pop and came in a very solid at bat: 3)The late season Double-A play we are seeing from High-A mainstays, Zavier Warren; Ethan Murray; and Wes Clarke, is one of the highlights of my 2022 Minor League season. We've seen a three home run game from Clarke (he had another two bagger tonight), Zavier Warren was on base four times tonight and swiped two bases, and Ethan Murray brought the leather in addition to a 2-for-4 evening with a solo jack. This might not have been expected by most casual fans, but, you've seen glimpses of these types of games throughout much of the second half of the 2022 season. To see these young men put it together in the midst of an unlikely six game winning streak for the Shuckers is all the feels Let's take a quick peak at Murray's long fly over the wall in deep center left field: We've got a LHP Brandon Knarr and RHP Josh Lindbolm treat tomorrow night. Both hurlers have proven incredibly reliable in 2022 - I'm expecting more skill and greatness as they take the hill. Will the Sounds push their division lead? Will the Shuckers win their seventh straight? Tune in. As always, thanks for reading and supporting these players as they chase their dreams. 24. The surprising and continued output of High-A mainstays, INF's Ethan Murray; Zavier Warren; and Wes Clarke is definitely a late-season highlight for me as this Minor League season comes to an end. These young men have come to ball since being sent down to Biloxi. So many highlights in the Brewers system in 2022 - this collective late-season output is up there.
  25. Shuckers have now won 6 straight. I am here for it. And it is sweeeeeet.
