  1. Oh boy, after three straight Hobie Harris walks loaded the bases and made it 3-2 Sounds, the Mud Hens hit a broken bat ground ball Brice Turang bobbles and biffs and it's now 3-3 with only one down. A fly ball will win it for Toledo. Matt Hardy has the job trying to off-set further damage. He came in relief of the struggling Harris and saw the Turang error.
  2. Just like that Hedbert Perez nabs his fourth hit with a bomb double (his 3rd!!) on the evening. Let me check my Cycle call. I thought he had a single in there ?. It's 9-8 Mudcats!
  3. Eduardo Garcia hits a high arcing looping triple toward the line in left field and then aggressively scores on a Hendry Mendez comebacker (fielder's choice) beating the tag improbably by knocking the ball out of the glove. It's 8-8 and it's a new ball game here in the bottom half of the sixth.
  4. Arbert Cipion is up to the dish with men on first and third. Cipion walked to the plate batting 3-3 on the evening with an rbi in his last AB. He's just having A YEAR with his OPS up to 0.800 now (WOW!). AND, man, he ropes an absolute 102 mph cannon to the hole between first and second in a shift AND it literally caroms off the cleat of the pitcher leaping out of the way directly to the first baseman. Wow. Unfortunate bounce. I can't say enough about this young man. He is having an incredible season.
  5. CYCLE ALERT: Hedbert Perez just jacked his fourth home run on the season to make it an 8-7 ball game here (Kannapolis leads). Hedbert is 3 of 3 on the day and is missing a triple to complete the cycle. Let's go, Hedbert!
  6. CYCLE ALERT: Hedbert Perez just jacked his fourth home run on the season to make it an 8-7 ball game here (Kannapolis leads). Hedbert is 3 of 3 on the day and is missing a triple to complete the cycle. Let's go, Hedbert!
  7. In other news, can we casually talk about Darrien Miller allowing his 43rd stolen base on his young season. 43. He is literally throwing out less than 10% of base runners now. What does that mean for Darrien as we face an impending automatic strikezone?
  8. I'm here to say: Ethan 'should', if he is called up, assume Ashby's bullpen role. He'd be fantastic as a bullpen piece that can work a few innings with his crippling 77-79 change-up.
  9. 43rd and 44th stolen base on Darrien Miller for Willy Joey Garry Jr. - his second and third on the day. And, they weren't close. It's now 5-0 Cedar Rapids who are very much outclassing our beloved Timber Rattlers early.
  10. Darrien Miller has now allowed 42 stolen bases on the 2022 season. In May. If you want to know why he doesn't sniff my Top 20, it's things like this. He just doesn't have the arm. AND, this was a case of: a good throw grabs the runner at second and the inning is over. BUT, it wasn't. And a seeing-eye well-hit single knocked the runner in. It's 1-0 Cedar Rapids with men now on first and second with 2 down. It should be of note: Cedar Rapids doesn't really run the base-paths. But, you can bet they know Damien only nabs 10% of runners.
  11. Fantastic first inning for Ryne Moore. THIS is why we watch these young men. After conceding a well-hit 7th pitch double to the wall in left, Ryne induces a couple harmless outs (pop up and ground out - both to Tyler Black) and proceeds to strike out a lefty for the final out. What was finest of the inning, for me at least, was how they held on to the change-up until the second to last pitch. Great stuff! You just love to see this type of bounce-back.
  12. And Olguin takes out his frustrations on the unfortunate error by striking out his two remaining batters. On to the bottom-half of inning one and it is still 3-0 Kannapolis. We are into the top of the fourth in Toledo and Mario Felciano just hit his second single up the middle. There is one down and it is still 1-1.
  13. Olguin is facing big trouble in the first inning here with the bases juiced and none down. He saw a lead-off double, followed by a walk, and then another single. With an 0-2 count on batter four, he saw a sacrifice fly turn into three runs on an atypical throwing error on the relay from Eduardo Garcia. The bases are now empty, one down, and it is 3-0 Kannapolis.
  14. Pablo Reyes walks, steals a base. And, Tyler White knocks him home with a single. It's now 1-1 in the top of the second. Weston Wilson is now at the plate with 2 down. Feliciano just hit for his 8th game straight with a single up the Middle. And the Mud Hens announcers are now glorifying the wonderful month Nashville has had. Good stuff!
  15. It's interesting timing for sure. Will be interesting overall to see how it plays out here. This is obviously a big injury for the Big Club.
  16. Counsell spoke to this last night in a sit down with Adam McCalvy and Sophia Minnaert. The current thinking, at least according to Counsell, is they will now use Ashby as a Fifth Starter. He spoke to, and was obviously aware, this takes him out of his current highly effective bullpen long innings guy. For your reference:
  17. Very cool to see that interview and see you @Seth Stohs! Great stuff. Ryne Moore certainly has been thrown into the proverbial fire since his promotion. Straight into two starts agains League Leaders - first South Bend and now Cedar Rapids. Let's hope he has a better outing number two. He was obviously a little amped up for his first Start and struggled with control a bit. I'll be watching!
  18. Super excited for Miguel Sanchez to get another shot with the Big Club. After his first scuffle of the season two weeks ago in Jacksonville, he answered the bell with absolute dominating performances versus the Reds’ Louisville Bats. Hopefully he gets some meaningful action and he rises to the occasion!
  19. It should also be noted: Dylan File has now been officially outrighted to Nashville (he had been optioned).
  20. Trevor Kelley and Miguel Sanchez Have both been recalled from Nashville. Congratulations Miguel!
  21. He’s still only 23. So, he has some time to work on everything. I would say, the most pleasantly surprising catching story in 2022 (for me, at least) is Jakson Reetz in Biloxi.
  22. I will say ONE thing, and really only ONE thing about 2022: We are discovering the Brew Crew’s Minor League system was vastly underrated heading into 2022. For reference: Before we took three of five Sunday, we had the fourth best Organizational MILB record. That’s a significant mark. I honestly feel like I could make various Top 20’s. My ‘off the top of my head’ Top 20 prospects, in absolutely no way really speaks to ‘TOP 20 Call-Up Candidates’. I continue to be utterly amazed at the work that was done in the 2021 Free Agent class. We essentially grabbed a heaping basket full of AAAA players that could very easily play spot duty in Milwaukee. The Sounds are loaded with Major League talent. What impresses me the most about the Sounds is they always play hard. Their pitching is obviously incredible. Their defense, even with Infielders having to rotate into the outfield, is stellar. They are disciplined. They work at bats. But, they just always play hard. You don’t always see that in Triple-A. The organization as a whole is just in such a fantastic place. I can’t wait for another draft!
  23. I would offer: Mario simply needs to stay healthy for a season first. I think that’s step one. He hasn’t hit for much power in awhile - but, he’s also been consistently injured. Maybe that comes? I just want to see him make it through a season and we can move from there.
