  1. Yeah, that's an error on their part. Smith pitched a mere few days ago. He is scheduled for Friday. In other news, these are interesting tidbits: MAKING MOVES: Ernesto Martinez Jr has been placed on the IL retroactive to May 8. Yeison Coca has been transferred from Wisconsin to Nashville. Ashton McGee has been transferred from Biloxi to Wisconsin. All of these moves take effect today.
  2. Carolina has released RHP Brandon Ramey. We wish you all the best in your next baseball and or life adventures, Brandon! Thank you for your efforts and best of luck moving forward.
  3. Agreed on Jeff and his weekly interviews. Also a nice tip of the cap to early season performers: Mark Mathias, Jon Singleton, and Tyler White and an unexpected nod, perhaps, to Pablo Reyes (who, if you're watching Sounds games, is hitting the ball as well as anyone even tho the numbers don't back it up).
  4. It's important to see the swing in real time. That swing is definitively more open as it's an oppo blast. He has a wide stance, indeed, but he gets immense power from his hips and torso flexion. Here are two hits (that HR included) in real time:
  5. In fairness: Biloxi's offense has pretty much struggled all season. Outside of mini hot streaks from the likes of Wiemer, Valerio, and Garrett Mitchell, and the unlikely output of catchers Jakson Reetz and Brent Diaz...the offense as a whole has been fairly anemic. Frelick came aboard and got going consistently after his first couple contests but the rest of the order is out of synch. The Bottom of the line-up has routinely been absent. It's, really, just not good right now. One of the surprises and early season disappointments. BUT, as we know, a lot of season left. They can and absolutely should turn it around. EDIT to ADD: I want to add to this because it's perdy telling. I touched on this in a recent Minor League report. Hitting with runners on base is a major achilles heel for Biloxi in 2022. I just dug up this stat from today's Game Notes (thanks Garrett ?) During their series against Pensacola, the Shuckers hit just 5-for-47 (.106) with runners in scoring position. Simply put: that's not going to cut it. Gotta start knocking 'em in.
  6. 100%. Chourio is already a Top Ten prospect and it really isn't debatable imho. Our Top 10 is most likely going to need several adjustments. You don't see young men like this all too often. He has come in, from Day 1, with Big Brass in attendance semi-regularly and absolutely raked. He has everything there. This is a legitimate possible superstar.
  7. Just to elucidate the 'infatuated' (I've been following this development as well): Edit to Add: For those of you who are unaware, Josh is the Senior Editor at Baseball America. So, this praise isn't casually shared. He is seeing what we are seeing when we tune into Carolina: Stud. Legit stud.
  8. @Mass Haas, I think you'll agree we are in for a week of stellar logos once again. Is there anything better than the merch of well-executed Minor League logos? They are legitimately fantastic on a routine basis. One glance at this week's jewels and, I have to say, Birmingham...Nashville I love your old school vintage homage but there is more innovation waiting to be worked out in the graphic design department.
  9. I have consulted the oracle and I am sensing a Biloxi victory. Because, well, they can't just lose every game...can they?? Some nice starting pitching taking the mound at all levels - Moore (Carolina), Knarr (Wisco), Castaneda (Biloxi), and ol faithful Linbolm (Nashville). I, for one, am going to be tuning in to follow the enticing development of Captain K-Knarr in Appleton. He's been electric his past several starts. I'm hoping his 12-6 curve is on point tonight.
  10. The hype is real. This is what we call a tantalizing prospect. His swing is so sweet. This is the proverbial 5-Tool ball of clay. Let's hope he stays healthy and evolves into a superstar?
  11. My initial thinking with this proposition is: I am uninterested in coughing up a Small, Mitchell, or a Frelick for a Laureano. He's a nice player but he isn't a player worthy of top 5 prospects (imho) given he is also coming off an 80 game suspension. I would dangle a Freddy Zamora and a Hedbert Perez, however. Does this get nibbles? Any interest? If no dialogue comes of that, I probably move on.
  12. This just in: The 2022 Nashville Sounds are still really good. Jon Singleton with 2 more walks. He's hitting .207 with an 0.847 OBP. Love me some Jonny Muscles.
  13. Also, Jackson Chourio ? Be still our hearts! HR #1 on the season and a 4 of 4 afternoon. Swooooooon. This young man has come to Low-A ready to ROCK.
  14. Tyler Herb continues getting the 2022 Brent Burnes treatment in Biloxi. Sheeeesh. 5 more scoreless innings with nothing to show for it. I feel for Tyler as he is really dealing over his past 3 starts: 16 innings of combined 1 RUN ball and not a win to show for it ?. J.T. Hintzen blows his second save in a week giving up a 2-run jack in the Bottom of the 10th. Things are piling up in a not so good way for Biloxi. Hintzen has now conceded 6 runs in his last 3 outings - a combined 3 1/3 innings. Batters now hitting 0.306 in his 11 1/3 innings pitched.
  15. I'm ALL aboard the Shook Train baby. He has legitimate 'stuff'. Excited for his progression (probably unrealistically so).
  16. Hey, a splendid way to follow-up winning on two wild pitches. Gotta love the lower levels baby. It's literally never over until it's over.
  17. It would appear @Mass Haas, Eduardo Garcia was indeed pulled for being 'under the weather'. Always good to see his name on the lineup card.
  18. Joe Gray Jr. staying focused, committed, and heating up. He worked a walk in the first inning and now he launched a HR to left field in the 3rd. It's 3-0 T-Rats. Russ Smith has 4 k's of 1 hit and 1 bb ball through 3.
  19. Will brings up a very noteworthy thing for many of the T-Rats pitchers: Guys like Cam Robinson and Russ Smith are completely unfamiliar with pitching in these types of cold and windy conditions. It's good to bring some awareness for a guy like Russ who clearly has not been comfortable dealing with this for the first time. He mentions what I said before the season: Antoine Kelly has Big League stuff today. Gotta love it.
  20. Awesome report, Jim. I remember 2021 in Nashville that was indeed nuts. 69 moves by early May is not friendly to 'Sweetie'!
  21. Awesome report, Jim. I remember 2021 in Nashville that was indeed nuts. 69 moves by early May is not friendly to 'Sweetie'!
  22. Bikoxi with their fifth loss in a row. Mudcats pull ahead in the Bottom of the eighth on a Leones 2-run jack and T-Rats win a walk off 2 run ninth.
  23. I’ll be looking at two things given the pitching tonight: Can Carlos Luna increase his efficiency? He has a classic Panamanian pitching style with a (very) little bit of Mariano Rivera in his arsenal (obviously nowhere near the velocity) and can Ethan Small reduce his free passes?
  24. This just in: our overall fringe depth is awesome. So many deserving players. I’ve been ringing this bell for weeks but we seriously have too many candidates right now worthy of that end of the bench role. Given Keston is pretty much a defensive net negative he is almost approaching: ‘Where does he fit?’ In the organization territory. Being the Homer I am, I want all the worthy Triple-A guys to get some shots. What is not mentioned @edfunderburk, in your thoughtful post (all players you list are worthy candidates), is the merits of Weston Wilson who can definitively plug and play at 1B too. He should probably be added to that list. He has more versatility than everyone listed if we’re being honest and he is a darn good utility player.
