  1. Welcome to Brewer Fanatic!
  2. I could easily see the Orioles aggressively pursuing Burnes. Given the direction of the franchise, their potential for spending, and their robust farm system, it's exactly the kind of thing I see them trying this offseason.
  3. For sure, a POBO title is not necessary but additional layers of management is needed to handle the output of front offices that have ballooned over the past decade. That's what I'm wondering about; whether they plan to add another top-level executive to replace Arnold's old role, I don't really care what that person is called.
  4. That's not entirely true, though, There isn't only an assistant GM now, many teams have multiple assistant GMs (or they've split AGMs into several different roles like "technology", "player personnel", etc.). Front offices are getting bigger (by a lot), which is why these new titles are being created.
  5. Without looking it up, I'm relatively confident at least ten teams are now using a POBO>GM model of front office and more are added yearly. It's relatively new and only about a decade old but teams have been flipping over to that model in a hurry. Which makes sense, as the role of the old "General Manager" is becoming too big for one person to manage. When front offices were a handful of people, having a General Manager made sense. Now that analytics departments alone can number well into the dozens of people, it makes less sense to put that workload on a single person and instead split it into two roles, one that manages high-level strategy, the other that manages day-to-day workloads.
  6. Oh, I’m not worried about the titles, I’m mostly curious about whether they’ll add someone to replace the person who is stepping away from the organization.
  7. I've been a little confused about this so sorry if it's been covered elsewhere in topics... but Arnold is not being named POBO. I guess that makes sense and is fine but... are the Brewers going to be down a top-level executive in 2023? In the typical POBO structure, you have the POBO making the big decisions regarding the overall direction of the franchise and setting tone, attitude, and overall strategy. Then you have the GM, who assists the POBO and often negotiates contracts, ties up loose ends, and does the day-to-day stuff. He's more of a "nuts and bolts" role under the POBO. Have the Brewers announced if they're going to fill a second GM role to assist Arnold? Or will they just run a little short-handed for the time being?
  8. Whoa whoa whoa, let's pump the brakes here. Have you looked at the players the Yankees have developed under Cashman's tenure? Yeah, he's far from a perfect executive but the Yankees perennially churn extremely good players out of their system. I mean, just Aaron Judge alone kinda disqualifies this statement.
  9. I guess it boils down to your definition of "significant". I consider two low ball prospects with upside rather significant for an executive who may have had one foot out the door either way. But I agree the most likely outcome is for everyone to stand pat for 12 months, see how Eppler does in 2023, then reevaluate the situation.

  11. Yeah, disregarding money you keep Burnes over Woodruff close to 100% of the time... but that's not the way baseball works, unfortunately.

  13. They also throw way harder now, which is probably the root cause of most of those injuries.

  15. Please, everyone, let's get back on topic here. There's no need to start jabbing each other with personal comments. If you don't care for someone's baseball take, consider not responding or putting the other user on ignore if it become unbearable.
  16. I think Burnes is a more likely trade candidate, as I believe the Brewers have less of a chance of extending him past arb. I hope I’m wrong but that’s the situation I see.

  18. This isn't really totally "news" because Stearns is still under contract and any pursuit by the Mets would require negotiation with the Brewers and would surely come with a hefty cost. And it's pretty hard to see the Mets bailing on Eppler after a wildly successful season, even if said season ended in disappointment. But also, it's interesting to see over the next 12 months whether this is simply Cohen hedging his bets on the 2023 season and possibly snatching up Stearns after he's out from under any contractual arrangement with Milwaukee. This is one of the more fascinating POBO/GM situations I've ever seen in my life of following baseball. It's obvious the two are interested in one another but continue to play coy. 20. It's kind of amazing how the script flipped with this team. For pretty much my entire life, barring a few isolated seasons/eras, Milwaukee baseball has been bat-first, pitching-second... and a lot of the time, it was bat-first, bat-second, bat-third, pitching... well, maybe.

  22. I think people are too quick to throw out “bust” status. Houser is a perfectly adequate pitcher if you have 3-4 better pitchers in front of him. He’s the type of guy I’m happy to keep around through his arb years but also the kind I’d be really hesitant to extend well into his 30s.
  23. I was hoping for an extension but it felt like a long shot to happen. Oh well, on to a new head honcho!
  24. I like Attanasio quite a bit. Well, as much as one can or should like a billionaire, anyway. The Brewers are pretty financially competitive in MLB, a sport with no salary cap and Milwaukee being a very small market in comparison to most. He also seems to let the sports people handle the sports side of things, which is what I want to see from ownership. Overall; I think you’ll be satisfied with how he manages a sporting operation.
