  1. Poor Poor Pirates... Good job, Zaun. If he hits at least decent it will take a lot of pressure off of the bottom of the order.
  2. To the tune of back to back world series appearances? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. Probably a good decision. Dish has always been pretty lackluster in my opinion. Directv is good with the exception of their customer service and billing department. Making changes to your programming can be quite the headache.
  4. Directv feed and yes, patchy patchy audio. Turning on Bob right now...
  5. I'm no expert, but I would also assume that there is the option that the fundamental way of doing things just doesn't feel comfortable to him. There are all sorts of unorthodox batting stances and what not, and they all have to do with what makes the player feel most comfortable.
  6. That is hilarious. Our home fans are really on a roll in that trivia contest. Opening day it was just as bad, the hints involved the mystery player leading all rookies last year in RBI with 66. Only one player on the list saw significant time last year AND was a rookie.. Casey, obviously (no, i can't spell his last name!). The guy guessed Kottaras i think.
  7. Unbelievable.... I bought tickets a few weeks ago and ended up shelling out $75 per ticket (with fees and shipping included) for $15 400-level tix... oh well, it's my first opening day. baseball is finally here!
  8. Sheets isn't just a risk to go down with a season or career ending injury, he's a risk in that if he doesn't have his good fastball he will struggle mightily, healthy or not. That said, i'd much rather pay him 6 million than to pay Suppan 12.
  9. 23.20 REGULATIONS CONCERNING MARIJUANA AND CANNABIS. (1) Purpose . The people of Madison specifically determine that the regulations herein contained concerning marijuana and cannabis are necessary to serve the ethical purpose of providing just and equitable legal treatment of the citizens of this community and to preserve the respect of such citizens for law, its process, and its administration. (2) Definitions . In this section: Cannabis . The resin extracted from any part of the plant Cannabis Sativa L., or any other nonfibrous extract from any part of the plant containing delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. Casually possess . The possession of not more than twenty-eight (28) grams of cannabis, or one hundred and twelve (112) grams of marijuana. Marijuana . All parts of the plant Cannabis Sativa L., whether growing or not; the seeds thereof; and every compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, mixture, or preparation of the plant or its seeds. It does not include cannabis or any other compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, mixture, or preparation of the mature stalks, fiber, oil, or cake, or the sterilized seed of the plant which is incapable of germination. Practitioner . 1. A physician, dentist, veterinarian, podiatrist, scientific investigator, or other person licensed, registered, or otherwise permitted to distribute, dispense, conduct research with respect to or administer a controlled substance in the course of professional practice or research in this state. 2. A pharmacy, hospital, or other institution licensed, registered, or otherwise permitted to distribute, dispense, conduct research with respect to, or administer a controlled substance in the course of professional practice or research in this state. Public place . A place which is in public ownership or a place to which the public has access; distinguished from a private place. (3) A person may casually possess marijuana or cannabis in a private place. Such casual possession is not a crime and is not subject to forfeiture. (4) No person shall casually possess marijuana or cannabis in a public place unless such marijuana or cannabis was obtained directly from or pursuant to a valid prescription or order of a practitioner while acting in the course of her, his, or its professional practice. (5) A violation of Subsection (4) of this ordinance shall be subject to a forfeiture of up to one hundred dollars ($100). (Am. by Ord. 9244, 8-14-87) (6) A violation of this ordinance is not a crime and shall not subject a person found in violation thereof to loss of civil rights or to other disabilities imposed upon a person convicted of a crime. No entry or other record may be made which indicates that a person alleged or found to have violated this ordinance has been arrested for, charged with, prosecuted for, or convicted of a crime. (7) Separability Clause . If any subsection, sentence, clause, phrase, or portion of this ordinance is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such portion shall be deemed a separate, distinct, and independent provision, and such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions hereof. (Section 23.20 Cr. by Ord. 5833, 4-18-77) --The rest of Wisconsin might be a little crazy but at least Madison has it half right.
  10. Fine. So let us never try to get pitching through free agency. We'll just ask other teams if they will give us a few of their picks so drafting has a better chance of panning out for us. My oh my, some of you people... How much value do you think Hardy had? He is a lifetime .260, feast or famine, hitter. Guess who else is.... Mike Cameron! (you're right, he's a lifetime .250 hitter). Although i have a lot of respect for both players as human beings, I am glad that DM has decided to purge these two. Cameron is good on defense but he is not nearly what he used to be. Back to Hardy, his range was awful, and if you put the tv on mute you will see that his arm isn't as strong as BA says it is. Gone are the days of being amongst the league leaders in team homeruns, but something tells me that this will lead to more wins. I like it, you don't have to.
  11. True, but even if Roy Halladay could help us make the playoffs I don't think we would do much once we got there. Halladay, another solid pitcher, and someone to bolster the batting order (see: Casey Blake '08) would make us contenders. Anything short of that and we are giving away our future to make another short playoff appearance. It was a good move last year, but I think it would be stupid this year.
  12. Davis might come the cheapest, and we do have a good trade history with Arizona. But he's a nibbler and it's just so unbearable to watch him sometimes... I like the idea of Meche or Lee because they are coming from the AL and would have that element of surprise since most teams haven't faced them more than once or twice. What I really don't like is the idea of trading Gamel, Escobar, or any other prospect that Melvin feels will be a big contributor down the line. We can't do it every year.
  13. Our team is flawed, let's not try to patch that with a pitcher who we'll have for less than 2 years.
  14. Looks like the Cubs are trying to find another Casey Mcgehee. Baker's stats aren't very impressive.
  15. We are a power hitting team full of players who are a little above average in terms of speed. Escobar is obviously much faster than anyone we have. I would assume we would send him more often than anyone else. Even if not, I still would like to know how SB numbers transfer to the majors on a general basis, if anyone knows.
  16. Not a single surprising name on the list, if you ask me.
  17. That's funny, Morgan is my fifth outfielder on MLB 2K9 (Fantasy Draft) behind Braun, Kemp, Carlos Quintin, and Fred Lewis. Of course I haven't gotten to play for quite a while.. I'm actually probably done until next year's edition. So, does anyone else get the feeling that Milledge will be the newest brewer killer?
  18. Quick question, sorry if this is common knowledge around here but I was wondering how stolen bases in the minors translate to the majors? One would think it would be pretty similar. Looking at Escobar, he's already got 27. Should we expect that he's a 50 Stolen Base guy (in a full season) in the Majors?
  19. First of all... Smoking pot is not in any way similar to robbing a bank. Smoking pot is similar to not stopping all the way at stop signs or speeding. Smoking and THEN driving is a different story. But smoking, by itself, is a minor infraction of the rules, depending on where you are. Athletes who get caught in the act of smoking will get in trouble. Athletes who TEST POSITIVE for drugs will not, just the same as your everyday joe. You cannot, unless on probation, get arrested for testing positive for a drug. If you abide by every single law they make, good for you. But most people have their own personal set of values that may, or may not, coincide with the law and make decisions accordingly. In regard to pot, it's usually the people who have never been exposed to it or anyone that has done it that are so deathly afraid of it and judgmental about it. Imagine drawing a conclusion about a player that you have never seen play before and basing everything off of what you have read about him from a biased source. It's no big deal.. but I still don't like Soto... He's a cub.
  20. He's a young hitter, he's bound to struggle, especially with the walks. It wasn't even a year ago that this board was freaking out about Brauns walk totals. Braun has obviously improved in that regard and I'm sure Gamel will make the adjustment as well. I'm not saying he is Braun, just using him as an example.
  21. i'm letting the girlfriend watch tv while i follow on gameday. What happened on the dp?
  22. I can't believe they are still trying to get this game started.. It's past 10pm in Detroit. Give it up. Let's get this one off of the books!
  23. I have Fielder, Hart, and Granderson, who have a combined 39 pts, which I don't wanna lose. Especially since I'm playing the first place team. Yeah.. except for the fact that the REAL team is losing...
