  1. Normally, I would respond with, "However, 5th starters don't get paid $10 Million per." But if Suppan can dominate one of the teams that we are contending with on a yearly basis, the Cards, I think it is almost worth it. Suppan vs. St. Louis 7 IP, 0 ER 7 IP, 3 ER 7 IP, 1 ER 8 IP, 1 ER 9 IP, 1 ER I don't think you can put a price on that. Also, he's had 1 bad game, and 1 REALLY bad game against the Cubs, but he's been very good against them as well.
  2. The classy cardinals fans didn't even fill the stadium for a saturday day game against the team they share 1st place with. If this game were in Miller Park, three words: Standing Room Only.
  3. The Cardinals and their fans think they are special.. That is what I have gathered.
  4. So, if not another pitch is thrown tonight, does anyone know what will happen with the game.. (and the 2-0 score)?
  5. So... is there any chance at all that they can continue this game from the 2nd inning as part of a double header? how is this determined? I've seen it before, and I've also seen a game called in the 7th and that's that. how does that work?
  6. Here's a question.. If he gets just 2 hits instead of 0 does he get released? Is there much of a difference between 2 hits and 0 hits? Is there much of a difference between 4 hits and 0 hits? It's just a very frustrating situation. It was obvious that he needed some time to work through his issues. EVERYONE goes through slumps, that's just the way it is. Unfortunately, as stated above, we just didn't have the time or the availability for him to work through it. Bad news for Brad: He no longer has a job. Bad news for us: We no longer have Brad Nelson. Good news for Brad: Someone will pick him up, and he could very well perform at a high level this year, yet. Bad news for us: He could sign with an NL team, or even worse, an NL Central team. Good news for us: This is a sign that DM and MA are not messing around. We might not have Sheets and CC but we are still serious about winning and this move proves it. You don't release Nelson and bring up a guy who is still working on his defense but can mash the ball if you aren't serious about winning RIGHT NOW. They are basically saying, "I don't care how Gamel develops for the long term, right now we NEED his bat off the bench for our major league club." This is a good sign that we are going to be buyers when the deadline approaches and that we will look to bring in pitching.. provided we are still in the hunt. So much for the "2009 is a step back" idea. For the record, i know Nelson wasn't released, but he might as well have been. They knew he wouldn't want to go back to AAA if he could find a job elsewhere.
  7. It looked like, for some reason, that Braun was squaring to bunt and a slider (or some sort of offspeed pitch) got away from Dempster and was heading right for Braun's face. Braun leaned back and it glanced off of the brim of his batting helmet. Not intentional and Braun is fine.
  8. Counsell at 2 can be good for a couple of reasons: 1. It provides a lefty bat to make the first five hitters: R L R L R. This may come in handy later in the game. 2. While he's not a doubles or homerun machine, he gets on base (as noted above). A good thing when considering the fact that he's hitting in front of Braun, Fielder, and Cameron. It should also provide him some hittable strikes, however, this might not be a good thing... 3. Just to throw it in there, it leaves open the possibility of Hall coming in later in the game to pinch hit against a lefty and one-up what Braun did last night. Only-half joking.
  9. I'm sure that's not ALL he said, but I'm glad we are finally getting some sort of insight as to why that move was made (Yost canned.) Granted, the page upon page upon page of "YOST!" posts in the IGT's ARE pretty convincing... That said, i remember reading an article a week or two ago about how Svuem has been harping on the players about swinging at bad pitches. I'm glad, it doesn't seem like a bad thing at all to have a lineup of patient hitters. I haven't read Moneyball but I have always noticed how other teams' hitters just seem way more choosy than ours. On the topic of self-discipline, I would think that people, in general, who have a lot of it in their off-the-field lives probably have an easier time with plate-discipline. I, for instance, would be up there hacking.
  10. Rickie! (I realize I'm not going to be the first nor only one to say the exact same thing, and that it's probably against site rules now, but I don't care. What a game!)
  11. What do you mean by "how was that a hit"? What kind of hit was it by Braun?
  12. For those of us following on gameday, how did Hall hurt himself? And what about Cameron's injury? Do either seem serious?
  13. I was amazed, on Sunday, at how easily I was able to pull in to the parking area and even more amazed at how quickly I got out. I got there probably about 12:20, and after the final pitch we casually made our way towards the lot. It's not like we jogged our way out but I was back on the interstate in a flash. Very pleased with how it all turned out. Except for the fact that each time I got up someone hit a homerun or multiple homeruns... I didn't get to see any! That's what I get for taking the aisle seat and buying drinks and food for the group. Next time I'm not getting up at all. I usually don't more than once I don't know what I was thinking...
  14. This game is pretty blah. Must be one of those 1/3 games we are supposed to lose. Although, we do owe them for that meltdown game in Arizona last year. I'd love a meltdown right about now..
  15. Refresh my memory... Do DirecTV subscribers outside of Milwaukee have ANY chance at all of seeing this game tonight since it's on WMLV? Edit: It looks like it will be on after all. Channel 652. Interesting that it's on the alternate since there is nothing on the main FSN channel.
  16. *Slooowwww Clap* I'm intrigued to find out what they have to say about this. (edit: long quote --1992)
  17. You have to remember that Hoffman has been around for a very very long time. Trevor Time, including the Trevor Time T-Shirts, go back well into the 90's. People in San Diego will still be walking around in those shirts long after he retires. Maybe they could have come up with something a bit more creative but that is what stuck, so that is what you call it when Hoffman takes the mound. Put simply, it's bigger than you. Get on the train! The Trevor Train.
  18. That's really good. However, at the end I think you were being too nice. Whether that scenario with your friends at the bar happened or not, it was gold. But just as you had 'em by the throat you backed down. They might see that and say you are content to let it slide, and as a result just throw you another garden variety "Sorry but there's nothing we can (want to) do about it. Remember, your unsatisfaction is like a cue to a hypnotized person, which is how they act. You can state your problem and say whatever else you want and they will act like they didn't even hear you, giving you a standard pre-written statement back most times. But you use the words "unsatisfied" or "switching companies" and it's like a program has been triggered in their head to either fix it NOW, or if they really can't, shower you with "gifts" (credits to your account). Like I said before, I can tell you aren't fishing for free programming or anything like that.. but if they can't get you your Brewers programming when you have every right to it, then I think a little compensation is in order. Especially when you consider the fact that you will have to go to the bar (and spend money) for a big handful of games this year.
  19. Some companies are more cut-throat than others, but the bottom line is: revenue. I'm surprised that your friend didn't get the job, though. The fact that they wouldn't spend the time to train them says either, A. They don't want to spend the money in terms of hours to train, or B. They want as cold-hearted of a person as possible in that position no matter what. Again, revenue rules all.
  20. Keep trying. If you push enough DirecTV will bend. Those emails they sent you back remind me a lot of what I have to do at work.. I work part time for a Hilton hotel, front desk. This is basically how we are taught to "handle" situations in which a guest is not happy... 1. Apologize 2. Empathize 3. Offer a solution if possible 4. If not possible, if customer seems content with "no" response, let it be. 5. If not content, offer alternative solution, or a bribe basically. See, you are stuck on step 4 right now. If you keep emailing and emailing using previous emails as attachments so that they know you've given this some time (and as a result seem pretty unsatisfied with their service) you WILL come out of this the winner in some way shape or form. I know you probably aren't fishing for give aways and would rather just watch the Brewers, but enough fuss and you could land yourself a discount off of MLB Extra innings if that's the only alternative. Do people in your area with local cable have FSN Wisconsin? Can they watch Brewer games on it if they have it? This would be my sticking point. Make a reference to the fact that your goal is to watch the games, and that you can switch to cable if necessary. Keep fightin' the good fight... Now the rest of us should be working on FSN Wisconsin itself so that we can actually watch the games in HD when they are on..
  21. I understand that it's important not to mess with a player's development, but if this team is serious about winning you put yourself in the best position to win in the event of a Kendall injury. If there isn't much of a dropoff between Salome and McGehee then, okay.. but i seriously doubt that's the case.
  22. I just tried to get 2 and it wouldn't let me... You can still get a single seat but that's it. Out of curiosity I checked some of the other games and it appears that you can't purchase them on your own? Do you have to be part of a group or is there another place to look for them outside of the regular "single game ticket" section?
  23. If he goes on the DL, does Salome get called up for a couple starts?
