I kinda agree. But this is a great day to DH Contreras, so it comes down to Bauers or Hoskins.

When I was pondering move(s) if Yelich went on the IL, I thought Miller might be a darkhorse candidate. From a pure baseball standpoint it should've been Hicklin over Wiemer, but with the 40-man factoring in, pure baseball sometimes has nothing to do with it. Wiemer is the better defender so there's that. I just don't like the idea of him transforming his swing/setup at the plate & now all of a sudden not playing every day. Are we going to be facing some LHP in the upcoming homestand?

And still K'ing more than you'd like. Still needs to get more comfy with the 'quieter' approach I'm sure. If they make a move I'd think it's gotta be Hicklen.

I could see Omaha churning out pretty good talent within a 2-3 year period. It's a big city, even though it isn't known as a hotbed of hoops talent. I agree that them all coming from the same high school is strange. I'm sure that's a function of kids nowadays being allowed to go pretty much wherever they want, as opposed to being limited to this-or-that district. And Bellview West HS has been either state champ or runnerup like twelve times in the last 25 years. A record like that recruits itself.

I've felt good vibes about Boeve since they drafted him (despite the defensive 'adventures' last year), love the start he's gotten off to, & hope he stays in advanced A for now. Pretty sure he will.

Anyone with eyes/ears on the inner workings at Carolina---is there any concentrated effort (tweaking his swing or other mechanics) to get more power from Tayden Hall, or is it more a belief it will come naturally w/o adjustments? I love the start to his career, especially the ability to draw walks & low K totals. But homerless in approx. 350 ABs is certainly......I wouldn't say alarming, but surprising.

This recent stretch is reminding me of the beginning of the '78 season. People were hopeful that this Harry Dalton-George Bamberger thing would work out, then they went out & scored 40 runs in the first three games of the season. It was vs the O's, so maybe for oldtimes' sake, keep it going for a couple more days.

Brandon Angel is visiting UW this weekend. He's started the last two seasons for Stanford & is being looked at to replace Tyler Wahl at PF. He & Wisconsin had mutual interest when he was being recruited out of HS.

Actually Younts' 3000th came in Milwaukee, vs Cleveland. Several family members were there. I had to work.☹️

Yep. That's the side of the coin that I alluded to in an earlier post. It encompasses a large % of the kids, but doesn't attract clicks or sell subscriptions so most people don't realize how many are left holding the bag.

Frankie Fidler, an important target for UW, has set a press conference for Monday morning to announce his decision. Being a college sports fan for decades I've come to learn that it's a waste of time to assume what a kid is going to do based on the myriad of rumors & info about which way he might be leaning. But since wasting time is something I've honed into an art form, the theory that makes the most sense to me is that he's heavily leaning towards staying close to home (UNO, Creighton, or Nebraska) & is only holding off to see if Michigan State knocks his socks off during his last visit this weekend.

In all the back-and-forth on this thread re the Burnes trade & how some think we should've gotten more, I think this is the point many are forgetting.

Isaac Lindsay of UW just entered the portal. I would imagine he's pretty much in the same boat as Ross Candelino & Luke Haertle in that he wants to go somewhere low D-1 or D-2 so he can get on the floor. I picture this whole portal thing as a commercial fishing trip. The choice fish get snapped up & processed, then you have a whole bunch lying on the floor of the boat flopping around, just hoping to somehow get back in the water.

Along with all the obvious stuff they do really well, I was impressed almost to the point of being speechless over Connecticuts' job on the offensive boards in this tournament. It just seemed to me like every shot they missed, it was even money or better they were going to get a 2nd or 3rd look. Those guys just refuse to get boxed out. I thought Tennessee would knock out Purdue by doing a lot of the same things to their guards that Uconn did. Uconn just did it much, much better. Just a really talented, well-coached, relentless team.

That's the big concern. After the work he turned in this spring, I thought he could be a positive addition--but not until maybe June sometime. Hope he surprises me.

For local deals, I can't imagine any business not writing something like that into the contract (having to repay). Of course the schools wouldn't be involved in that b/c you'd be "going after" a student athlete, maybe with a lawsuit, while at the same time trying to recruit HS kids. Not a good look. As it looks now, the winners will be (at least some of) the P5s, and as always, lawyers.

Whatever NIL money there is in hockey, there's probably more to be found at schools other than NMU. Reason #1, I'd guess. The other reason(s) are, because the system encourages it. Would love to know what their head coach thinks of half to two-thirds of his roster leaving at once, and if it's OK with him because it's just opening up slots for someone else.

Yep. With LHH in the 8 & 9 holes and a 3 batter minimum, Murphy rolled the dice on the one RHH, Urias. Makes perfect sense. Just didn't work. I guess they could've Had Wilson go back out for one hitter, but he's then sitting down & getting back up for a 3rd time and they apparently felt that was prohibitive.

Thank you. I've been playing a lot of Immaculate Grid lately. Gives the old brain cells a pretty good workout. It helps if you collected baseball cards when you were a kid lol.

In other organizational news of a defensive nature: Maybe those of us pooh-poohing Wes Clarke as a catcher were wrong. After all, he only had two passed balls tonite.

I like the look of the position player group in Appleton, 1 hit notwithstanding. I'll chalk it up to opening night jits. Anyway, if tonight is any indication Pratt might be aiding their cause sooner rather than later.

All the posts musing about who would play 1B behind Hoskins (if not Bauers) kinda answers the question of why Bauers is here. He's a backup at 1B who's strong defensively. He allows them to DH Hoskins if they choose to. And he'll sometimes PH, like tonite. He can't really play anywhere else, but with the makeup of the rest of the roster he doesn't need to. And they don't want Tyler Black up here playing only once or twice a week. I wasn't happy when they acquired him, but I understand why he's on the team. And of all the 1B we've picked up from the Yankees over the years, he's probably better than Frank Tepedino.

I think once you set your infield in a situation like that, you're pretty much locked in to what you're going to do. IOW, Murphy had the middle INF back, so we're going to 1st. I hear what you're saying though, it was smoked. Would've been interesting.
