  1. Cousins looks the same to me. He can be dominant if he can get ahead in the count. Didn't do enough of that tonite but managed to turn in a scoreless outing. Wiemer looked bad at the plate tonite. But let's remember he was ticketed for AAA at the beginning of the season & is now being thrown out there every day. That's a tough position to be in & still keep your head above water. I'm thinking/hoping at least one of Frelick or Taylor will be here in maybe a couple weeks. I think Joey benefits from sticking primarily in RF.
  2. Yeah. I was actually surprised he sent him up in the ninth once Yelich was retired.
  3. I see he's walked four in 5 innings so far this season. That won't cut it up here unless he gives up virtually no hits, which is what he's pretty much doing in Biloxi. I'll defer to you since it sounds like you've followed him more closely while I'm just looking at the numbers. Better slider command than FB command is interesting. Sounds like he might simply be a mechanical adjustment away.
  4. Guys in the clubhouse can now eat off paper plates & drink out of styrofoam cups without the danger of being preached to. Don't underestimate the value of that.
  5. In '21, '22 and so far this season he's thrown 41.2 innings and walked 33. I imagine it's due to him not having command of his off-speed stuff, which he'll need at least to some extent at the major league level even throwing 100+.
  6. Andrews has had a nice start to his season. But he threw a total of about 10 innings for the organization all of last year. He's also left-handed, which brings into question exactly what they have in mind for him. JMO but I think there's more "prove it" innings in his future. If he continues to do well I could see him as another LH option but I don't know about anything more substantial. I think Uribe is still a ways off but I'd love to be wrong about that.
  7. No sense in defending Bushs' outing today, obviously. I was pulling for him because he's filling an important role--whether it's the 7th or 8th--and there aren't a lot of other options. Varland looked promising but isn't available right now. Cousins needs to re-establish himself. Houser is being stretched out. Peguero had a nice day but you certainly need to see more. Despite what happened when we acquired Adames, substantial trades this time of year are rare. And no amount of struggling is going to make Cam Robinson or Uribe any more ready than they are (aren't). Usually, when fans start b****ing about a reliever, it's a high-leverage guy who's had success or he wouldn't be in the role. Like it or not, teams give guys like that more opportunities to "get right" than fans would. Bush certainly needs to work ahead & locate much, much better. He was 0-1 to Turner & basically threw him a 3-0 pitch. On a different topic-----it would be nice if your staff ace could take the mound w/o needing to take 50-some pitches to get his act together. The 8th inning rightfully overshadowed it but Burnes needs to be better.
  8. There are obvious holes to Taylors' game but this is why he's a little more valuable than many realize. Wiemer looks OK in CF. In RF he's terrific. Same with Anderson in RF as opposed to 3B. Miller didn't make what was an admittedly tough play tonight playing 3B, and it cost them. Taylor (if available) keeps other folks where they belong if you want your best defensive team out there. Sounds like TT will be available before Frelick. Watching this unfold will be interesting.
  9. I stopped watching Sportscenter many moons ago, then was flipping around one day just as it was starting. Thought I'd give it a try. I made it through maybe 30 seconds of self-promoting & "everyone listen to how clever I am" preening from whoever the host was before turning it off. I watch ESPN if there's a live event I want to see. The rest of their programming is painful.
  10. Yeah, I agree. I felt the game kind of hinged on that. Wiemer on 2nd with no outs & the top of the order coming up. Inning ends with Wiemer still on 2nd. That didn't help. Yelich is just confounding. He contributes---he did early tonite---but it's so incredibly odd to see the # of times he gets ahead 2-0, 3-1 & fails. I've seen a lot to like from Wiemer. But young man, you gotta take 2-0 when down by 2 runs & no one on base. I know, Jansen most likely isn't walking him. Still.
  11. I thought Davis was slowly starting to turn a corner, but if all are healthy his chances for getting on the field weren't great in '23. I was thinking maybe he'd get some run in the bowl game, but that didn't really happen. Would not be surprised if he wound up at a MAC-level type program & was productive there.
  12. Ninth-grade me was looking forward to shelving school & going to opening day in '73. Of course Mom Nature played her sick joke on everyone & we had to wait several days. I remember quite a bit of snow still shoved out of the way of pedestrians & motorists on game day. I also remember Bernie Brewer going down his slide before the game, demonstrating to the fans what would happen when a Brewer hit a HR. As he made his descent toward the beer stein, snowballs came flying towards him, courtesy of the Orioles bullpen. Bill Parsons started, and IIRC gave up one hit & walked about 83. Or maybe it just seemed that way due to the cold.
  13. When I think of Devanney & his possible impact at the major league level I consider him a 3B. But the way we value versatility I expect he'll still be moved around.
  14. That reminds me of what they used to call "sonic booms". In the 1960s they were caused when the supersonic jets out on maneuvers broke the sound barrier. I thought they were kinda cool. But I was a kid & didn't care whether the windows shattered.
  15. For anyone who's been around long enough to compare the two, are there any similarities between Misiorowski and Nick Neugebauer? I'm a big Tyler Black fan. Hope he can stick at 2B, but his recent usage makes me wonder if that's in the cards. If Mitchell never totally taps into the power but cuts back on the K rate I'll be more than satisfied. There have been very, very few players I can recall that are able to beat out what are more-or-less routine grounders. He's one of them.
  16. Unless the circumstances or event prohibits it, I constantly wear shorts if it's 60s or warmer (in Wisconsin, so that's maybe a little less than half the year?). When we had softball open gyms, we had an ass't coach who would wear shorts throughout the winter. I'm talking going to/from his car, everything.
  17. So I was right!!!!! They call it a changeup so it'll be less strain on his shoulder than if they called it a screwball!!!!!
  18. The fun thing about Sanders is that he was in the era of multi-inning saves. 133 games with just over 228 IP in his best two Milwaukee seasons, with a number of outings of 3+ innings. Still remember Fingers on the playoff roster in '82, even getting up a time or two in the bullpen. Decoy, or hoping it felt good enough to come in & throw 10-15 pitches? They wound up going through those two series with nine arms.
  19. Good luck. It's the ability to do/say whatever you want while maintaining anonymity. There will always be folks who can't resist abusing that. But in almost a year here, I'd say this board has at least a fighting chance compared to others. We shall see.
  20. Personally I don't care for a "thumbs down" icon. I'd rather people either just ignore a post they don't like or respond to it with a counter-argument. I know some have wanted it though, so I hope it's a positive addition.
  21. Maybe the team feels there won't be as much strain on his arm if it's called a changeup.🤔 Anyway, welcome!!!!
  22. Also Jamel Howard, a 320lb D-lineman who committed early then de-committed, re-chose UW today. New DL coach Greg Scruggs & Fickell held off Michigan, among others. Some of the transfer pickups, which often come with a coaching change, will certainly pay dividends. But this (the HS recruiting) is what'll sustain them over the long haul. And the staff has done this with little time to acclimate to their new gig. You can't help but be impressed. EDIT: areacodes beats me by a nose!!!!
  23. Not that they've never gotten a kid from Waunakee, but it's gratifying to see them break through there. It hasn't been a place they've been able to build the proverbial wall around. Never seen Booker play, but from descriptions I've heard he sounds like he could be in the Kendricks/Beckum mold. Getting both him & Stec is unusually impressive.
  24. I remember the early days of the DH, when many teams used it as a way of getting ABs for a well-worn slugger who couldn't regularly be used on the field anymore (Cepeda, Tommy Davis, Deron Johnson, Tony Oliva, Frank Robinson). With the exception of Aarons' two years here the Brewers didn't use it in that way. Easily the most subjective position in this whole exercise.
  25. Years ago I worked at a place where people were constantly leaving each other notes at their desks. I would sabotage some of them by writing "love" above the name at the bottom, so instead of it simply saying "Stan" it would say "love, Stan". Anything to make the day go by faster.
