  1. I actually was assuming they'd do that when Taylor came back. But Wiemer has looked comfy in CF & Taylor made those great throws right off the bat playing RF, so I guess they left well enough alone. Long term though, I believe Wiemer is potentially a GG caliber right fielder. I assume that's where he eventually settles in.
  2. Never saw anything after Taylor was retired in the eighth. I blame LaRussa.
  3. .........Which sums up perfectly what I've always felt about run differential. This felt like the type of game the Brewers have won in recent years when they're at their best. Out-getters hold up their end, defense (mostly) gets the job done, and a couple HRs cover up the fact that, from the neck up, the opponent put up a lot more good ABs than we did. I swear, if Jordan Hicks hung himself from the tallest oak, we'd cut the rope for him. Happy for Turang. Maybe he's getting closer to being a regular vs both LH & RHP. I'm just chomping at the bit to see Wiemer when he gets a little more seasoning. Had we been at full health he probably would have never seen Milwaukee yet, a lot of ABs that look overmatched, still managing to contribute.
  4. As corner guys go yeah, Black deserves kudos. I'm just not convinced yet as to what position he winds up at defensively. That's why he wasn't on my mental short list. Glad to hear the thumbs up on both Clarke & Warren.
  5. He's worth mention, especially w/the dearth of corner guys in the organization. Wes Clarke & Xavier Warren haven't set the world on fire, although Clarke draws walks & seems to have a propensity to drive in runs. Luke Adams is interesting but a ways off. Alex Binelas was dealt. I'm a Cam Devanney fan, but certainly keeping an eye on Ben.
  6. I don't believe they would regularly use Caratini as a DH w/o another catcher on the roster. I also see no way Urias would supplant Anderson at 3B. THAT might be your revolving DH if Winker never gets untracked-----Urias the primary guy, occasionally giving Anderson or Adames a day off (they then DH). Attractive option? No. That's why Winker isn't going anywhere any time soon. Of course there's always the ultimate coin flip mashing down in Nashville.
  7. I suppose Voits' stat line is the answer to the question "how bad does someone have to be to (again) consider Hiura?" What may make it easier for the team to consider it is that Voit can only defend 1B, and while Hiura is scary with the glove that's the position where he came the closest to being acceptable. Plus it has the advantage of being an in-house move--the Adames trade notwithstanding I think it's highly unlikely a trade of any significance is going to occur at this time of year. I watch Winkers' ABs and I don't think he looks "lost" at the plate or anything. I'd give him quite a bit more time.
  8. Not a killer given the OF talent in the organization, but still disappointing to see Grays' struggles. Wood being bumped to high-A is interesting.
  9. That's the thing about Chourio. AA. 19. And like you said, holding his own. Don't know how long into the season it takes, but I expect him to blaze at some point.
  10. Honestly, when I watched him the first week or so of the season the guy I thought of as a comp was Tommy Edman. Of course the league learns, and you go into adjustment and adjust-to-the-adjustment mode. That's what's going on now. SF70 said it well. Looking forward to his continued development.
  11. This was never going to be an elite offense. What bothered me today was the elements they need to be strong weren't. They get a little bit of momentum getting on the board in the 4th, then Miley & Contreras go out in the 5th & turn in some real, real ugly work. As difficult as it is, you need to make Kershaw work. Wasn't happening today; the strike zone the first couple innings took care of that.
  12. What's the over/under on BSW replaying Woodruffs' HR vs Kershaw from almost 5 years ago, then showing Woody sitting in the dugout?
  13. True, Jake. They appeared to cut ties with Wong at the perfect time. But they acquired pieces for him in a trade. They didn't just release him. I don't see (and don't want to see) Winker going anywhere.
  14. Late to the party, and the last thing I expected to see was anything even remotely close to talk about how much more time to give Winker. If he's healthy & putting up the quality of ABs he's been putting up, you give him until, oh, the end of the season. The only other options out there are those not as good, or too costly to pony up for. Amidst all the positives tonight, my hidden stat of the day is that Ty Taylor, in 23 PAs since returning, has struck out only twice. If he starts to windmill, I'll take full jinx responsibility.
  15. We all know how the organization values versatility & "run prevention". They already have one guy (Winker) they don't seem to want to use defensively, Reyes would make two. As a DH it might be a coin flip between him & Voit right now, but positionally Luke is a little better roster fit.
  16. After all these years, I'd get sweet pleasure out of seeing Wainwright struggle w/o Molina. A great duo, but it would be infuriating seeing them control how the HP umpire called the game. It was like being stuck in a WWII movie & having to beat John Wayne.
  17. I thought the poster child for last nights' loss was Burnes giving up a solid smash for a base hit in the 5th. On an 0-2 count. To a guy hitting .042. This is also probably a boring answer, but for all the wailing & whining on here about the offense they've scored ten runs in the last two games, one of which was a Burnes start. And lost both. Unacceptable. Getting ahead & not efficiently putting guys away, that happens. Sometimes you run into plate discipline. But it just seems to me with Burnes (and even Woodruff the past couple years) they'll be cruising & then suddenly fall behind some 8 or 9-hole hitter 3-0. Or like last nite, inexplicably give him something hittable on 0-2. Or starting your evening by giving a four pitch walk to Wade. Some of this just screams intermittent lack of focus to me.
  18. I thought a bunt from him would've been a beautiful move in the first inning w/1st & 2nd & no outs. Having said that, I would've been more surprised by him actually doing that than if martians dropped out of the sky & into center field.
  19. I just got the "wait 4 seconds" thing on a different thread about 5 minutes ago. Sounds fortunate that I wasn't on the in-game yesterday, I was in no mood😜..........
  20. I like Thomas. But with the OFs already in the system I don't see us giving up whatever he might cost as I think he's under control for a couple more years. Personally, I want to see Hiura hit a few more bombs in Nashville so the drum can be beaten to get him back to Milwaukee. Now THAT'S entertainment.
  21. I mentioned in a long-ago thread how it seems the Brewers are coming up with some real talented bullpen possibilities at various organizational levels. Seems to be coming to fruition in '23. Given that, you hope the PTBNL for Megill is very, very, very nondescript.
  22. Definitely see some Hader in the arm angle & release point. Certainly looks like he could give LH's fits with the slider, especially if he can be mid-90ish with his FB. First crack at organized ball at 29. You see teams finding pitchers from indy leagues more & more, but still a great story.
  23. Would appreciate it if one of the Brewer Fanatic minor league gurus could throw out a scouting report on Thompson. Signed out of indy ball, he's thrown just over 11 innings for the Shuckers & allowed 1 hit. He's 29, so you would think a bump to Nashville could be forthcoming sooner rather than later if they're serious about him.
  24. In the days before the DH in the NL that's something we've done. String of games vs AL clubs, bring up someone to DH. Since then the NL has added the DH, and we've seen Hiura try to hit lefties. I imagine Perkins will be here until they deem Taylor ready.
  25. LH Justin Wilson is expected to be able to pitch sometime in July. That could be another lefty option for the pen that might keep Andrews in N'Ville. Don't shoot the messenger.
