Ah, consistency. It's a word I've brought up from time to time this season. There's been a lot of talk in this thread about hitting with RISP and rightfully so. But there were also many times this year there was a runner on 2B with no outs, and the inning ended with him still spot-welded there. Also the runner on 3B with less than two outs thing. Those might not have anything directly to do with RISP stats since you don't necessarily need a base hit to score the run, but I think an offense can run much more effectively when contact is made, when situations are respected. and when you have the type of skill set where it isn't out of your element to do so. That's where I become intrigued with a Frelick, a Turang, A Mitchell or Ruiz. No one knows what or how long the growing pains will be given the youth. But I get intrigued at the potential for more consistency. Gotta say though, I'm really dubious about Ruiz getting reps at 2B.

Damuelle, I know he's had a forgettable season, but do you know what the organization is saying about Taylor Floyd these days? He's turned in some really impressive work before 2022. I wonder if there are any doubts about him b/c he's a sidearmer?

Agree, it's a VERY pretty swing. Here's what might be the most impressive thing: He advances to full-season A-ball, and while the overall numbers took a bit of a dip which is no catastrophe considering his age, he still flashed the power. That seems to be a common theme this season in the Brewer organization. Guys are advanced, sometimes very aggressively, but do pretty well at the next level. Good to see.

Here's hoping Devanney has gone from "late consideration" to someone they're planning to protect.

Article: Can The Crew Still Make the Playoffs?
Jim French Stepstool replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Bingo. There was a lot of talk on here about "not being able to beat the good teams", but it's that mark of consistency that has been missing. It's fueled by the "run prevention" which has kept them from the extended bad stretches in past years. When you have that you win more than your share regardless of who you're playing. When you don't, well, here we are. That, and feeling the need to feel sorry for ourselves for a week after the trade deadline. -

Don't totally understand Quero. It's a long year when a catcher plays throughout w/o missing a ton of time due to injury, but I'm sure they have reasons for extending him above & beyond what I realize. I thought Nick Kahle might go since he's gotten on the field very little this year. Good news about Black. Ward is a good add. I'll admit he wasn't even on my radar.

Hopefully Floyd can put a positive cap on what has been a really trying 2022 season. Some nice bullpen potential in the system headed by him & Cam Robinson. Didn't see it coming, the cup of coffee for Chourio in AA. If he establishes himself there with a strong finish, the thought of him breaking through to Milwaukee sometime in 2024 becomes less of a pipe dream. Just.....wow.

I remember listening on the radio when he hit for the cycle vs Mark Fidrych. Mike had at least partial ownership of indoor batting cages in Brookfield back in the day. Some of us fastpitch softball guys would practically live there, and at times Mike would actually be working the counter. I recall Frank Howard being seen there sometimes; he coached in Milwaukee in the mid-80s. Also Juan Nieves. It's just funny in this day & age to think of seeing current or former players in such an accessible setting.

Ted Williams brought teams out of the shift by doing exactly what you referred to. Guys like Rod Carew & Tony Gwynn could do the same if confronted with it. But it's too much to ask of the modern-day hitter, especially when putting up numbers & setting yourself up for arbitration time & FA is more important than winning games.

This can be applied to a lot of the stuff baseball has done recently, and will probably do in the future. I will say that while it isn't necessary to my enjoyment of the game, I doubt that I'll have much problem with the clock. Exactly how much bigger are the bases? does it make the distance between bases 2 inches shorter? Five inches? Anyone who thinks that's not a big deal doesn't see how many close plays there are in a game. Not berating it necessarily, but it WOULD be a big deal.

Maybe by 2040 we can "advance" to the point where you'll just have a 9-man batting order, a pitcher & catcher with no fielders. When a ball is put in play, a group of aerodynamics experts & mathematicians in an enclosed skybox somewhere can determine out or safe & how many bases awarded by calculating launch angle & MPH off the bat. Now if you'll excuse me, there's some clouds rolling by, I have to go outside & yell at them.

Article: Brewers Make Moves Before Twin Bill
Jim French Stepstool replied to TL Schwerz's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I don't look forward to any of the "Nashville 4" OFs being traded, but I suspect someone will be part of a deal simply because there's four of them, they all have value, & you have Chourio coming up behind them. Ruiz is as good a guess as any as there appears to be a hit tool & solid defensive ability for the other three as well as speed; supposedly Ruiz' defense is a bit suspect. Topa has never seemed to work out here. Maybe with the health issues behind him that can change.- 6 replies
